Hey guys
I started an application to get a new two door DSG Golf GTI Mk6 this afternoon however after reading some old threads and finding this page http://www.my-gti.com/1588 i think I may be getting rectally sodomized on this deal.
The only extras I'm getting are Detroit wheels and the total is 47k.
I've attached a photo of the break down of prices in the deal and was hoping some of you wouldn't mind looking over it and giving me their opinion.
Breakdown here: http://yfrog.com/j7priceszj
Also in that first price list, are they meant to be prices dealers don't want us to know about or will most dealers happily honor them?
Please excuse my noobness as this is the new new car i have purchased.
Thanks in advance team!
P.s will a car being ordered impact on the overall price ?

The prices on the my-gti site are the RRP price before dealer delivery and all the state stamp duty, registration, ctp and so on. The laws changed after that was posted and now all prices listed are inclusive of all of these.
There is a great calculator around in this forum somewhere (which I'm sure someone will post the link to) that will tell you what you should pay (ie if it's a good deal).
And after looking at the price you have you will be able to do a lot better with some more homework.

You should be able to get the same price whether you have to order or they have your car "in stock" mate. If they want you to pay more for ordering, tell them you'll walk. Or you can do what I do and just tell them they won't be doing that. :)

Yeah I'll go and see them on Monday because 47k is not right. I think i just need to push them harder because i could really do with saving a few $$$.
Tried the calculator but it didn't really work for me.

Hi Jordan.
With the 3 door. Did you option on DSG or Metalic Paint? Becuse they do cost abit extra.
I'm in the same boat as yourself, as I am also looking at a 3 door GTI.
From memory a 3 door GTI with DSG, was $45K drive away with no bargaining on the price. The 18" Rims are $1200.
You should be able to get a few thousand knocked off the price. Generally speaking people on this forum in the spreadsheet that's going around got between a 8% - 12% discount on the final drive away price.
I'll try and find that link for you.

Here is that spreadsheet:
http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newforum/upload/showthread.php?t=31714
and here is another thread that people have been discussing their drive away prices in:
http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newforum/upload/showthread.php?t=36028
Also have you paid a deposit for this car already? That document you posted up seemed pretty official. Generally speaking, you won't be able to bargain them
down on price once you have signed on the dotted line and paid your deposit.

Hey Pauly.
Yeah it's a three door DSG GTI in candy white so....
I'm now a bit pissed off because I'm clearly paying to much and they knew 47 is over what i wanted to spend.
I'm going to go in tomorrow with a few calculations and putting it to them. If they aren't going to budge in price I'm gonna walk and just go to another dealer.

Yeah i found those last night.
Call me stupid but i couldn't actually get it working correctly for me? Well more specifically regardless of what data i input i could never get the total price back to $0. Maybe I'm doing something wrong?!
Did you get it working okay?

Dude - you should STOP creating so many threads because you keep MISSING people trying to HELP you!
The 'drive away price' for a Golf GTI 3 door with DSG is ~$46,600. That's why your pricing is always wrong, because you're starting with a price about $1k off what is reality. Even the VW site with the optimal '40 y/o with a perfect driving record in a perfect suburb' says $46,000

Dude - welcome to adulthood. You're not getting ripped off, in fact, their price is within a few dollars of the calculation spreadsheet - counting the fact that they've given you a $739 discount!
The drive away price for your car is ~$47,855.
Please stop listening to Pauly because with all respect to him, he is confused.
Here is a link to the GTI price calculator (http://members.iinet.net.au/~coreying/VW/Golf%20GTI%20Calculator%20for%20NSW.xls) which includes all options and also the stamp duty and other onroad charges. If you have more specific registration and CTP costs, you can also enter those. This spreadsheet is 100% accurate to give you the true on-road prices (if you have the registration and CTP costs which are relevant to yourself). NSW and QLD have the same stamp duty for this particular car.
So given that I've now explained that the dealer is not ripping you off, what do we need to discuss is discount.
If you are a good negotiator and you are serious about purchasing the car, obtaining a 8 to 12% discount is not unreasonable. You have to be willing to work for it though.
Since you're in QLD, if you're in the Brisbane area, you may need to go to the Gold Coast as people have reported having better experiences there...

I'm 100% serious about the car. I just got a fright when i saw a few other posts and how much some other people have paid.
So when you say it's possible to get a 8-12% discount do you mean 8-12% discount off the total drive away price or just the price of the car and it's extras (excluding stamp ctp dealers fees etc)?

As Christopher said - 8 to 12% discount off the drive away price. Excluding the on-roads is a pointless exercise since you're buying a new car and can't get away without paying them :)

Well if thats the case id even be happy with 5% off.
Let the negotiation begin

m8, i would recommend contacting david the rep from gosford and see how much the shipping will be ?500-1000. He is awesome bloke and see what price he can do. You might find you still better off coz the brisbane dealers are annoying. The gold coast dealer didnt even have drive away price pricelist and on the same day i went to springwood one they had. GC told me they dont give out driveaway price lists. umm WTF.

Well the place I'm currently dealing with are giving me a decent price for my Polo that I'm trading in so at the end of the day it would be much easier staying with them.
I'm just gonna go in tomorrow and make them think i can't afford it without any more of a discount. Hopefully they step up to the plate and bring it down to the 44k mark.
Worse case scenario i walk and go to another dealer.
It's not like there are a shortage of VW dealers around me.
Plus they wont let a 44k sale go that easy...
Corey_R
07-03-2010, 10:39 AM
Yeah exactly. But seriously - don't discount from going to one of the dealers at the Gold Coast. Even Harding Performance in Brisbane drive down to the Gold Coast to purchase all their cars - a few of the Brisbane dealerships seem to have a reputation for being difficult to bargain with!

They're probably giving you a good trade and not taking much off the car so the price you quoted isn't the real price you're paying. The price that matters is the change over price.

As above they may not have much room to move now. You need to factor in the trade and this complicates it so the best thing to do is to go to another dealer and talk to them and go from there.

They will if they're not making money.
If you're dealing with Austral loosen your belt before you go in, they will do whatever it takes to get the sale and you'll end up limping out with a rubbish deal. Highway are good to deal with and the dealers on the Sunshine Coast and Ipswich are good. Gold Coast I've heard good and bad about but nowhere near the bad rep that Austral has.
If it is Austral they will give you a good trade price and change it downwards substantially when go to pick up your new car. Best to deal with someone who is honest.
JordanNaumov
07-03-2010, 09:39 PM
Yeah Austral was the first place i went to and i left because i didn't like anyone i was dealing with.
Anyway the car I'm trading is 2002 Polo S with with 78400kms plus VW 15" mags, pioneer avic-f900bt http://www.techshout.com/images/pioneer-avic-f900bt-gps.jpg and a little body kit which makes it look slightly like a gti. Whether or not those extras will make a difference in the overall sale price is a different story but i though i may as well note them. It's interior and exterior is in immaculate condition so its a nice well looked after car.
So the place I'm dealing with atm have offered me 7k which is a price I'm happy with considering the convenience. I was going to sell it for around 9 because that what a friend and i think i could get if i did it myself.
Red book say the following...
* Private Price Guide $6,700 - $8,300
* Trade In Price Guide $4,400 - $6,000
* Average Km 120,000 - 200,000
So at the end of the day i don't think they are loosing out to much by getting my car as it's not that bad at all.
P.s
Here's a snap of my polo Im trading.... http://www.uploadhouse.com/viewfile.php?id=5195505 If you think its worth less then 7k let me know so i can re evaluate things.

Your Polo looks quite nice. When I saw your write 'bodykit' I thought OMG - but it's quite tasteful and looks like it was possibly a VW option anyway....
.... BBBBBUUUUUUUUUTTTTTTT.....
The car is too old for a VW dealership to place it on their lot. So although they may take the trade, they'll have to sell it off to some other second hand dealer lot or auction house. So it's not likely you will get anywhere near the price on trade in that you could get from selling privately.

If its any indication! I just ordered White 5 door manual w/ privacy glass, MDI + ipod cable for $40000 drive away!! And the car is already on the boat here so hopefully 6-8 wk wait!
So for a 3 door manual you should be able to get $40000 flat easily!

Except he wanted a 3 door DSG with 18" wheels - that means he's already $2200 more than a 5 door manual, before stamp duties etc :)
Oh, and 2nd post - welcome to the forums :)

Hey guys.
Been a few days since i've been online but I have an update on my order...
After a lot of negotiations and even a few heated words my dealer and i have finally agreed on a new price for my new GTi.
Here it is....
Golf GTi mk6 2 door candy white
DSG
Detroit wheels
Bluetooth
MDI
Reverse parking sensors
$45k drive away.
What you think ?
Corey_R
16-03-2010, 08:48 PM
I've allocated $700 for the bluetooth (you didn't really say which one there) and $700 for the parking sensors. These are no longer a factory option, so I assume the dealer is fitting aftermarket ones.
I figure the on the road price to be ~$49610
That would give a $4610 discount or around 9.3% which is pretty good :)

Seems like a decent price

16-03-2010, 09:01 PM
After market reversing sensors????? Whhhhhattttttttt? How come VW aren't doing them anymore? Hope they wont be ****...
And yeah only basic Bluetooth.. Can you tell me the difference between advanced and basic bluetooth?
Corey_R
16-03-2010, 09:58 PM
VW do 'Park Assist' now, which is rear AND front parking sensors, PLUS the ability for the car to reverse park itself. It's a $1400 factory fit option.
As for the difference between the various bluetooth's, go check the VW Car Audio and Electronics forum :)
