hello,

Just wondering from the mk6 members if anyone's got issues with the 'coming home' feature?

My mother's '10 white night Eos runs all the mk6 electronics, but 'coming home' never works. Say your headlights are on, you turn key off, the low beam would turn off and the parkers remain on. Pull the key out, the parkers would go out as well.

The feature is enabled in the MFD but it just doesn't work

any ideas??

RTFM - flick the highbeam on before getting out of the car.

RTFM - flick the highbeam on before getting out of the car.

I was going to say exactly that.

there was a thread on vortex about it, almost all the people didn't bother to RTFM and ended up complaining to vw that their coming home didn't work.

must have missed that bit in the manual, thought I had read it, was wondering why the feature wasn't working.

will have to read the manual about setting the central locking, see if that solves that issue ?

haha it took me a while to figure that one out too. The manual is just so bloody big! i dont have time to read it! Besides it is more fun discovering these things after you have had the car for a few months. It is like getting a new toy!

One gripe I have about the manual, particularly the MFD sections, is that some items do not appear in there fully, there's just an asterisk saying something about your options may vary.

There is one entry under convenience and lights that is comf. Indic. (going from memory - I don't have the f'ing manual:P).
What does that option do ??

It means, when you just tap the indicator to change lanes, it flashes about 3 time automatically. saves have to keep the stalk pressed. atlthough sometimes, the 3 flashes isnt enough, but I still find it handy.

When I got my GTI - I sat IN MY CAR in the garage and read the manual so I could try everything out... GTI with leather is such a nice place to be :)

If you have VagCom you can change it between 3, 4 or 5 flashes. I find 4 does the trick for me.

This is my plan exactly! :)

On that... is there an online source for the GTI manual, so I can do homework before my car arrives? ;)

Any ideas how to fix this? The option is selected to have them come on for 30s but the past couple of nights when I've got home this hasn't happened. It's working fine leaving home. Any ideas?
Cheers

I had the same problem, the Mk 5 did it but not my Mk 6. Spoke to the dealer at my 12 month service and you have to switch it on via the, I think, indicator stalk with the ignition on or something like that. I have it written down at home and I'm sure I found it in the manual as well. Still haven't got around to turning it on. I also had it switched on via the dashboard display and thought it was a fault. Have a look in the manual or I'll reply again when I can find where I wrote it down!! :P

Flick the high beams before getting out of the car. When you open the door, the lights come on for the set time.

If you have VCDS you can change it so that you don't have to flick the high beams, etc. They never worked on my car (automatically) until I played with the setting on the laptop. Now I just have to put up with friendly strangers telling me I've left my lights on :) (Don't all new cars (above a certain price) have auto-headlights yet)? :P

I believe your light switch dial needs to be set to Auto mode. Mine does not work either if the lights are on parkers, or turned all the way on.

Don't you love forums... ask a question, get 3 different answers, and only 1 of them is right ;)
(And Ryan_R providing useful info about being able to change it via VCDS! hehe)

Of course, you can confirm in the owners manual :)

You could also have done a search on "coming home" and found the answer in the thread in which I've merged yours....

Thanks for the responses

But I really don't see the point in having this feature if u got to remember to flick the lights before getting out of the car? Doesn't make any sense to me

and actually come to think of it it's only stopped working since I switched on the auto lock door function

+ 1

Mine had to be turned on in VCDS, and will only work if the lights are set to Auto.

My lights are set to auto and it doesn't work, confusing !

Corey_R

It's not confusing....

You read your owners manual, and you follow the instructions (as people have indicated with the high beam lever).

If you don't like that method of operation, you can get VCDS (or someone with VCDS) to change the operation so that it just happens every time that you turn off your car if you're lights are in auto (and then have every 2nd person with a crap car at the shops/work tell you that you've left your lights on).

Irish

Disagree

After I turned off the car at night the lights used stay on for 30's (lights set to auto and not flicking the lights before I got out of the car)

Now it doesnt work

The only thing I've changed is setting the locks to auto close, that's it

So why was it working before ?

Are you not confusing it with leaving home lights. Coming home without flicking the lights is not enabled from the factory and settings in vcds dont magically change.

I wish i kept the thread but i trawled through vortex to find how to do it on vcds!

I have to flick mine to turn it on too.

I prefer the need to flick the lights as it can be very annoying having someone call out and stop you to tell you your lights are on. If it's dark and I need to see in front of the car for whatever reason, a quick flick and there is light.

I was a bit mean to one person when I had my Mk5 (which didn't require the flick) and when told about lights being on, I just replied "I did not!". They turned around and the lights were off.

that's the current behaviour in the octavia as well - no need to flick the high beam. just have to make sure the light switch is set to 'auto', and the CH option is checked or turned on (maxidot -> setup -> lights and visibility). The default duration is set to 10 seconds, but this can be altered as well.
the same can be done for Leaving Home function.
looks like the convenience module its different to that on the golfs.

this is from the manual.....

Switching on Coming Home Function
– The light switch is in the position automatic driving lamp control ("AUTO") and the low beam illuminates.
– Switch off the ignition.
– After opening the driver's door, the function Coming Home is switched on.
– Close all the doors and the boot lid and lock the vehicle. After a short time, switch all lights off.

Coming Home Function
The lights go out 10 seconds after closing all the doors and the boot lid.
If a door or the boot lid remains open, the lights go out 60 seconds after switching off the ignition.
The function Coming Home is controlled with the light sensor in the mount of the interior rear mirror. If the light intensity is higher than the set value of the light sensor, the Coming Home Function is not switched on after switching off the ignition.
You can change the illumination period for the Coming Home Function by means of the information display.

must be alot of morons where ya live as i have found 6/7yrs of having auto lights (dunnydores) i had maybe 2 people point out lights were still on. ive been so used to having them that its a dissapointment that my 90tsi dont have it.

By the way, I tried this last night and "flicking" the high beams on didn't work for me because I was flicking it too fast :D

You have to hold the high beams on for at least one second for it to work... I had to RTFM in my car.

That would be a question for the Transporter, Multivan, Caravelle, Kombi (http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/f136/) forum, not Mk6 Golf. But if you don't have auto headlights then it's unlikely.
