As you know, the Mk6 Golf has a particularly deep windscreen, so much so that my original folding sun shade was the right width but was too short and wouldn't fit properly. I didn't want to stick it to the inside of the windscreen with the suction cups, I prefer to hold it in place with the sun visors. Consequently when I came out of work, the sun shade would usually have fallen down and lay flat on the dashboard.

On Saturday I purchased a large sun shade 150cm x 70cm. It's the right depth for the windscreen but it's far too wide, so I have to fold the ends at 90° to the windscreen to get it to fit.

My question without notice is does anyone know of a sun shade, concertina-type or one of those twist and fold types, that will perfectly fit the Mk6 Golf windscreen?

Check ebay FTW!

They have sunshields designed for the exact shape of almost all vw models so far.

Might have to do an international search.

Trim the edges of your new one? Finish the ends off with some electrical tape or something...

Unless you were planning on re-selling it or returning it.

Well despite Mr Googleheimer assisting my searching, I was unable to find anything that was suitable, so I'll try your suggestion Team_V.

Axis, I had considered breaking out the scalpel and steel rule, but the edge binding and the elastic loop on the sun shade kind of put me off. I wouldn't bother returning it to the shop from whence it came, it was only $8 or so, I can live with the loss if I have to. Some new binding would have to be sewn along both trimmed edges, but it's possible my daughter could come to the rescue in that eventuality.

Thanks fellers, I appreciate the responses.

You know, IMO the interior ones do close to nothing if you are trying to keep the heat out.
I use an exterior silver folding / rollup shade - will do a far better job. Generally a 'large' or 4WD exterior shade will do the job - in fact I am using a large shade on a MKVI Golf and it does cover the whole windscreen.
Believe me on the recent 40 + days we've had in Perth it kept the interior not much above ambient temp..

Supercheap Auto (Perth) is where I bought mine

I use the sunshade to protect the dash from direct sunlight for 8+ hours a day rather than to keep the heat out.

No windscreen sunshade is going to keep heat out as the light/heat will still get in the side windows.

Moniker, that's a very good suggestion. I used to have an exterior sunshade many years ago, it had a couple of flaps that had to be trapped between the door and the A-pillar with wooden dowels sewn inside the flappy bits to prevent the shade from being "borrowed". ;) I've even used an old beach towel and a pink blanket at times to achieve the same effect.

And like Team_V's my Golf has to sit outside all day long at work and there isn't much shade around. What little there is is conveniently located over the boss's parking spot.

I have a large twist & fold one that fits nicely. Along with the front windows wound down 1cm, the summer heat in the car is bearable after a day in the sun. I think I bought it at Big W or was it Super Cheap?

My wife has one of those twisty-foldy sunshades but it's like trying to solve Rubik's Cube folding it up correctly. It tends to get tossed onto the back seat of her car when not in use!
