Hi to all you new MKVI owners. This thread is for you to share your purchases and expected deliveries together in a central place, so we don't have so many individual threads.
I hope that you all have short waits, and expectations are met when the cars arrive.
Mick.

It's A. The exact built day is shown on my order. It's the 2nd day of first week, 2010, which is 5/1/2010.
Thats great, just out of curiosity is it 2009 or 2010 built.
It WAS a 2009 build !
I say "was" because I got a phone call an hour before pick-up to inform me that somewhere between storage and showroom the car had been involved in an accident ! I sh*t you not, on the day of delivery !
I've re-ordered one and now will need to wait a couple of months now.
Oh well, worse things could happen I guess and no-one was hurt, it's just a bad situation for all involved, the dealership, me, the plonker who stacked it and my poor wife who thought she was driving a new car home today.
On the plus side, the dealer has gone out of their way to look after us, we have another car we can use (Mini Cooper S) and it will be a 2010 (gotta look on the bright side I guess).

That all sounds a bit fishy to me. It could be a case of someone coming in and offering to pay over the odds for a car of your spec and them inventing a story to free up your car.
Id defo be having a sniff around to see if it really did happen.
It could on the other hand just be very very bad luck.
did u get much of a discount on the car?
Christopher
09-03-2010, 03:54 PM
That's terrible... I'd definitely not be as calm as you sound...
You should ask to see the car to "see how bad the damage is", just to confirm their story. But I guess these things happen, as unfortunate as it is.
Although I wonder if the dealership with compensate you in some way..
Hi All,
Yeah, they threw in some extras to compensate. I don't believe it is a dodgy as I've dealt with the Dealer Principal before when he was dealing with another brand and he's not that way geared so I'm sure it's just ****e luck.
It's a shocker but at the end of the day it's not a situation the dealership wants to be in either and I don't know whether some moron delivering the car was to blame or if someone hit him/her so I'm trying to make the best of a disappointing situation.
Having said that, anyone here in Briz just pick up a hot deal on an MY10 Carbon Grey 5 door Gti with leather and 18" alloys? just kidding....

RE: the MkV, I dunno, as soon as I got it, all these GTI's started appearing out of the blue.
I was looking for an out-of-the-way spot to minimise trolley-rash on the first day, and that red one was just there... I guess I just gravitated to it.
To make it more freaky, I parked mine at my wifes office building in the city afterwards, and guess what, it is next to another MkV GTI.
Coincidence? I dunno...
Hey, Mk6, it looks like you ordered a works-burger there. I would have loved xenons and the dynaudio, but I have the patience of a 2 year old, so I settled on a colour and find the one with the closest specs availlable now. Only finalised the GTI decision two weeks ago. The Mazda 3 MPS is faster in a straight line, but APR will fix that, and the rest was a no-brainer for me.

Local content in an imorted vehicle:
Reason that an imported vehicle has to have some local content included once landed at the dock is that government fleets require some options to be fitted locally or some aspect of the vehicle have Australian made parts. This creates local jobs, which in turn aids the local economy. Governments then agree to buy vehicle as part of ther fleet, boosting sales numbers.
Example:
Toyota Hiace van has the stereo installed on the dock of White Bay (Balmain) before leaving the dock. It matters not that the stereo is made in another country; only that a local has fitted the stereo, providing some local input into the manufacture of the vehicle prior to sale. This creates local jobs.
If you look hard enough when driving off the ANZAC Bridge in Sydney, you will see a big warehouse on White Bay (Balmain). This is the mechanics workshop that adds the local content and completes the ADR compliance of the imported vehicle.
Some makes like the EVO IX Lancer could spend up to several weeks waiting for full ADR compliance.
Similar thing with child anchorage points being fitted to the Golf in Aus on the dock prior to full ADR compliance.
America had a similar thing with the MK4 R32. The American version had Monroe dampers, rather than the Bilstein dampers of the European version. This is why the American version didn't handle as well as the Euro MK4 R32. The Aus version also received the Monroe damped MK4 R32 as Monroe has a local factory that supplies GM, Toyota and Misubishi (when they still made vehicles here).
Explains the delay at the dock, rather than customs delay.
Cheers

If only life was that simple. For Toyota, Honda, Mercedes, BMW and Hyundai to sell vehicles in any great numbers in the USA, those manufacturers had to set up some of their production plants in the USA (most went to South Carolina as Unions are less influential & wage rates are cheaper than up North in Detroit). A different case in Australia ... for Toyota, Ford and GM to build vehicles in Australia, the Gov't has to give them generous grants and an undertaking that the Gov't will purchase these vehicles, hence why 75% of sales of the Falcon and Commodore are to fleets. Hell, the Volkswagen Golf now has more private buyers than the Holden Commodore. Mazda leads the sales chart nationally for highest amount of private purchasers. Point is: Many government, yes even the USA Gov't, are socialist when it comes to creating or protecting jobs. And no, the Bilstein dampers are not removed from the vehicle ... the Monroe dampers are shipped to Europe for installation into the vehicle. In Aus, most manufacturers used Monroe, but Ford has recently gone to Boge-Sachs Monotube Gas as part of Ford's effort to create class leading handling & agility in all their models.
Not exactly sure on how many parts are installed on the Golf when in the dock re ADR compliance; but did read on this forum that another stated that it had something to do with the child anchor points.
Cheers.

Oh Well :(

Ordered the car back in Nov
No factory options ie leather, sunroof, satnav - only options to be dealer fitted. Thought that I may have a chance scoring one sooner because of its std config.
i just ordered my 118 tsi on monday,
it had a car with the specs i want besides the beige leather it has black leather instead.
but i'll make do without the extra months waiting.
was told that the car was on a boat dued to land on 31st of march. recieved a call this morning from them, first thought was **** it's already here? then i hear the bad news, the boat got delayed by like 3 weeks T_T.
this is from the five dock dealer btw i want to cry right now
EDIT: i think my car might be on the same boat as yours paulcito
Awesome looking car GR33nbastad, and the timing for the pics couldn't have been better as I got to show my wife what her car will look like when it arrives, wheels and all. We made the right colour choice for sure.
Carbon, DSG, Detroits, Leather with elec adjustment, basic but all we need.
Got some great news on Friday, the (second time lucky, fingers crossed) car is on the water and on its way, engine and vin number supplied due here end of April or early May?

Sounds like a nice car you are getting. Your car might be on the same boat as mine. Due in Bris on the 29/4.
Yep that's the exact due date !
The Dealership is mumbling words like "possible" "probable" and "maybe" so I'm figuring early to mid may will be fine.

How Long Did You / Are You Waiting For Your MK6 GTI?
I am in the process of waiting for my MK6 GTI. The dealer has told me varying arrival dates - from 4 months to 7 months. I was just wanting to see what other peoples experience has been since it was launched in October last year?
I am apparently being told this week about a specific arrival date, but i'm getting abit sick of thr conflicting news I'm getting.

Pauly, whilst I understand that you are excited about making your first car purchase, or first new car purchase, you constantly open new threads asking questions which are easily found if you only looked in the thread list, or used the search function.
Now, you're answer can easily be found in many places, but two which are stickied at the top of every page of the MK6 forums:
How to track the car you have ordered? (http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newforum/upload/showthread.php?t=31644)
The official I have ordered/received my new MKVI thread (http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newforum/upload/showthread.php?t=41812)

What's wrong with the existing thread that is stickied at the top of the forum for this exact purpose? I know you like creating new threads but it makes it harder to find useful information which leads to more people creating new threads and the cycle continues.
And the ETA is exactly that, even if you get a date there is a good chance that it will be pushed back closer to that date, the more options you have, the greater the chance so don't expect an accurate ETA as it's means exactly what it says 'Estimated Time of Arrival'.
You ordered your car 3 business days ago, it takes time for a slot to be allocated for the build of your car and pestering the dealer for this information will only get him offside. What he has told you so far is 4 to 7 months which sounds like a realistic lead-time.

I ordered on October 31, but specified a 2010 build car. Initially scheduled for a week 6 build; ultimately built week 10. AFAIK it's still in Germany. Estimated delivery around mid-May. So... over 6 months!
Oh well, patience is a virtue, and I'm sure the car will be worth the wait.
Ordered mine several weeks ago. Was advised the planned production is week 17. Estimated delivery date end July'10. Takes a day for the factory to built a car but shipping process could be up to 16 weeks.

Ill just have to confirm whether it has the colour and specs that i want and see when the build date is.
Might be better to wait for the latest build date to see if it has fixed the rattling noise?

Hi all,
I rang my dealership today and spoke to the new car coordinator about the status of my car. She told me that my GTI was penciled down for a week 14 build and that it would arrive in Melbourne on the 22nd June with an early July delivery. This amazed me cause a few weeks ago I was quoted a mid September delivery. I have a few questions for you great folks out there.
1. I ordered my car on the 08/03/10 can the delivery time be that short when people on this forum are expecting a 6 month wait?
2. I understand 4 months is about the right amount time to wait but can the dealership really be 2 months off?
Cheers

They were probably just covering themselves if it did take that long. A customer is always happier if it arrives before the original date. I know with mine it came forward by 4 weeks. Mine is a Comfortline though.

A month after ordering my car (and no contact) I emailed my new car coordinator at my dealership asking for a status of my GTI. After waiting a few days there was no response to this email so I decided to give her a call. I provided her with my commission number and was told it would be a July delivery. To confirm that it was a July delivery I followed up with an email this morning and still no response. Is anyone else out there having the same problem as I am?
I think the problem is due to the 'New Car Coordinator' not realising she's a 'car salesperson'. I had problems recently with a 'fuel transfer technician' at a local service station. They don't seem to understand their roles.. isn't it about service?
Seriously though, the sales person I'm dealing with is very good and replies in a timely manner, even though he might not have any info to give me at the time. He's from a small dealership though and I doubt they have a 'New Car Coordinator'.

Totally agree that 'new car coordinator' is a waste of customer's time. Hold your salesperson responsible to their job and only deal with them or their manager.

I signed up today and have a 6 month wait.
The dealer has advised that;
1) Within 2 weeks they should have confirmation of my car's production slot. They will contact me and provide estimated arrival dates.
2) Following this, they will provide the VIN and the ship details so I can track it online.
3) Upon ship arrival, they will contact me to let me know that delivery is three weeks away.
4) They will contact me at least 7 days prior to delivery.

Update on the situation...
Rang the dealership today and got the stuff around for a while, the said they would call me back in 1/2 hour... 5 hours passed. I then decided to call them where the salesman who sold me the car said that he asked the 'new car coordinator' and she had forgotten to call me back (he also apologised). They said that the car is now 'handed over to production' what ever that means and it will be here end of June with an early July delivery - but the salesman didn't sound confident as he was mumbling his words.
Another member on this forum ordered a GTI at the same time I did and from the same dealership as well. He spoke directly to the dealer principal asking him if it they were able to deliver the car early July and they laughed at him telling him he should be aiming for a September delivery...
The frustration continues... If they were upfront in the first place and just told me they were aiming for September delivery and communicated with me on a monthly basis instead of giving me different dates then I wouldn't be this upset

I know that you're eager, but I think you need to give them some slack. Unfortunately until a build slot gets allocated, they're about as in the dark as you are. They can only 'guestimate' when it will be available based on other orders they've done before yours.
Every build takes a different amount of time depending on options. If you want an exact date on when you can have your car - don't order one from a factory, compromise with your options and get one already in the country.
Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I just feel that you are putting too much ephasis on information which it is just not reasonable to be provided... yet!

I would bank on the 6 months wait, anything earlier is a bonus. I ordered in January and was quoted June delivery. It's looking like I may possibly get it a couple of weeks earlier, towards the end of May.
My dealer was up front with me as I said I'd rather the truth about the delivery time than be set up for disappointment.

Fair enough. Anyway - just give them some slack. Today was crazy for me as well. I'm not even in customer service (well, not public facing anyway) and things were crazy for me due to this being a 4 day weekend. I'm not sure whether the dealers are opening or not over the weekend, but there will be limited enquiries and work that they could do on Friday and Monday regardless, so they could be in a case like I am, trying to cram 3 days of work into 1!

Ordered it last Friday. I didn't care for too many options. All i wanted was DSG (so the wife could also drive it), leather and 18" wheels.
As for colour, i would have been happy with silver, white or red.

Will take some photos tomorrow if i get a chance whilst its still clean :)

I also forgot electric driver seat.
Its good, but i see others on here with like bi-xenon, dynaudio leather, sunroof etc for like 47 or better.
But yes i am happy with the price.
Aaah, well, with eletric drivers seat that brings the discount to 12.8%.
As for others with Bi-Xenon and Dynaudio for only $47k, with the rest of your options that would require a 21.5% discount - which is impossible. So I think you'd be mistaken. Either that or they were 3 door manuals :)

I ordered my Golf GTI at the end of Feb and was told that I could expect delivery at the end of May. Found out last week that the delivery date has been pushed back to end of July. Is anyone expecting delays as well? I'm pretty unhappy about it since its an additional two month wait :( it better be worth it!

Personally I don't think that there has been any delay. I just think that 3 months was dreaming. They should have told you end of July from the get go. Sorry that you're disappointed, but as you can see around the forums, NO ONE is getting their cars in 3 months unless it was already on a boat (because they've picked something already built). All custom orders are taking 5 to 6 months right now.
Don't worry, it'll be worth it :)

Hi there,
I ordered mine on the 8th March, was originally told Mid-September, I rang the dealership 2 weeks later and they told me I am looking at an early July delivery. Not believing them I asked for a schedule (you should as well). They emailed me the schedule including when the car was handed over to production and when it would arrive in Melbourne. At this point in time the car has been handed over to production and awaiting body shell development with the next stage being paint workshop. The schedule also has the dates in which it will be arriving at the departure ports and how long it will be in transit.
Hope this helps...

Actually to clarify - they already had a few GTIs on order since Dec 2009, and were kind enough to modify one of the orders with my specs. As such, if the 5 to 6 month wait was to apply, i should receive the car by the end of May/early June and thus making it possible receive it in 3 months after ordre. If they are now expecting an end of July delivery, it means it'll take 7 months to build =(

Hi Guys, We ordered our new 103TDI Comfortline way back in Feb and were told delivery would be the 12th of April. When we recently contacted the Sydney dealer he said there would be a delay in delivery due to a fatal accident that had recently occurred at a container terminal in Sydney. I thought cars and containers were unloaded at seperate locations.
Has anybody else heard of or been told a similar delay in deliveries?
We have been counting down the days and have even arranged holidays so we can take our new Golf away.
Thanks for all the great info available in this site.

The reason why mine is taking a week is because I changed from standard bt to the premium bt. The model i asked for is not usually offered. So he said that might delay it. I am going to be contacted on Monday to be given a concrete date. Otherwise it would have been Tuesday as the car arrived at the dealer on Thursday last week..

I've ordered fairly basic, candy White, leather, 18" detroits.....once I heard the ETA, I asked the dealer to add a few extras as by then, I'll a have little more cash. His response was that the ETA would then be Aug/Sept. Does this sound right?

Yes, ordering more options can delay the build time. The reason is that cars are built in batches and that particular options need to come in from external supplies or other factories. Therefore the more options, the longer it is likely to take.
However, April to June is a very quick turn around time. I would say that the reason that adding options in this case would delay it by 2 to 3 months is due to the fact a car with the specification you have selected may already be in production and that's why you're getting it in 2.5 months instead the standard 4 to 5 :)

Hi Coreying,
very much appreciate the feedback.
I kinda thought that it might be a car already in production or available somewhere. Either way, I can't wait and looking forward to getting my hands on it. I'll just add as many dealer fitted accessories as I can afford.
Isn't it weird that as soon as you order a new car, every rattle, squeak and minor fault in your existing car drives you insane!!
cheers

Not really, I really comes down the availability of the options you are after and the colour. When I ordered my car, the dealer had cars on the water in black with DSG and leather that were no good to me. You'll probably find that the dealer already had a car on order with the combination you were after, hence the shorter delivery time.

hooba - the number and type of options does affect manufacture time - again, due to cars being built in batches depending ON those options, and the parts for those options also being delivered on an 'as needed' basis and not just sitting in stock in VW warehouses at the factory site.
So yes, sometimes you're lucky to get the car with the options you want already on a boat or in a dealer compound, but if it's a car to go through the entire "Dealer forward order" process (i.e. car built to order at the factory) then options can and do affect delivery time!

Dealership close to home has series XQ#... as slimline plates they're putting on cars now.
I wonder if each dealership gets alloted, say, a batch of 50, or they have to go in each time with each car's details and register the lot at once (I asssume this and that's why some dealers register batches of cars a few days prior to pick-up).

I'm very excited today, picked up my red golf gti !
lovely car ! very much like that can just potter around in it and makes a great everyday car being a 5dr hatch and with understated looks, yet give it a bit of a push and its a lot of fun !
the acceleration of it is quite something, the way it speeds through the 6 gears with the DSG. and sounds excellent too ! feels like in one of the touring cars hehe the way it goes !
I got the standard 17" alloys, because 18" was an option. have driven the golf with the 18"s and not that its a lot bumpier in the ride or anything but thought would take the little bit of the ride comfort the 17's bring. the 17's I think give a nice balance of comfort vs taught feel and handling.
the interior is very nice indeed.
everything has a very nice touch and feel to it, its all very solid and well made. I got the optional leather interior which I did have some reservations about but having got it, all thats forgotten and it is actually gives quite a sumptuous feel to the cabin. plus kiddy proofs it as well whcih is probably handy with our two little daughters.
the mdi ipod interface is excellent and works seamlessly with the ipod which you can put out of sight and gives full control of it.
I would have wished to get the sat nav, but its an expensive option at $2.5k, plus its available of the net. O can be dealer fitted down the track. I might hold off on it for now, be a nice present down the track. and by then digital radio wise who knows they might know a bit more whats happening.
My wife reckons it has a cute bum ! looks nice with the twin exhausts
I got it with the optional tow bar, was a bit worried how it would look as its a dealer fitted option. but think its come together nicely not disrupting the clean lines of the back end of the golf.
The thing I am most happiest about is that my wife took one look at it and was asking me why I didnt buy it for her. and that I should give it to her now ! I was a bit worried what she'd think. She's been telling me just because I turn 40 this year doesnt mean I should be buying anything red or sporty hehe !
ps I'd post some picks but cant quite work out how to upload them on here, looks like have to host them from someplace else ?

Hi wdong, what was your build week?
either in week 16 or week 17, vw australia told me my car will be built in week 17, but as been told it will arrive on 31st May, so i think it will be built on somedays next week then load on a ship in week 17.

On closer inspection of my car today, I realized that the bonnet of my car is slightly misaligned. It is slightly off to the left side comparing to the right! It's not too obvious but if you look closely you will realize especially when you look at the VW badge in the middle of the car and you can tell the bonnet isn't sitting at the centre. Can the dealer fix this or should I let it go? >_<

Now you know it's there, won't it annoy the c*ap out of you? I wouldn't want to pay that much (and wait that long) to find I have a car that's NQR!
I don't think I'd be letting it go.... anyone else?

For a start assess it properly. Is the gap on the right hand side at the front the same as that on the left hand side? Do the same for the rear of the bonnet. Now check the level of the bonnet with the right and left hand side panels. It's most likely going to be a simple adjustment you can do yourself without tools but until you work out what the problem is you won't know.

The gap between the bonnet and the side is bigger on the right than the left, especially towards the front of the car. I'm going to go in on Monday to see if they can adjust it for me

Thanks for the info. Mine was scheduled for production week 17. I ordered it in early March through Barloworld Mascot. I was told to expect it in end July maybe earlier. Hopefully he should have some news for me or at least a VIN number.

I saw one on the Monash freeway tonight, god i am itching for mine!!!
This week I saw 3 MK6 GTIs 1 carbon steel and 2 blacks and an MK5 GTI with detroit wheels except unlike the detroit we get in the current GTI which is black in the inside that looks like it's polished alloy. I thought it's aftermarket but at closer inspection it has the VW logo on the wheels. Looks really nice.

Hi coreying,
I checked with the dealer on Sat and they confirmed that there was one already being built with the spec I wanted, but it was going to be a different color and they managed to swap it, hence the shorter delivery. I tried to add a sunroof in, but it was going to push delivery out to Sept, so I said don't worry....
The dealer said they can't get stock - and they won't sell their demo's cos they need them, well, for demo's.

Hi gv-dub I was at Barloworld Glen Waverley on Saturday and they had 3 Silver GTI's in the yard. All had 18" Detroits, DSG, Leather and SUNROOF!
Hope this helps...
