Does anyone know how strong the manual box is.

I am looking into ordering it at the moment, but cant find any details on the strength of the manual.

Gooday! I have a mk 5 gti that I have upgraded with the APR mod. It can be fitted via the internet with an APR dealer. No need to remove the computor or anything like that. You can have a free 6 hr. test to see what its like. Another beauty is that it is switchable so if you have to return the car for warranty, a simple press on the cruise control button can put it back to std. I have the std program, 95 octane program & 98 octane program. In the 98 oct program you get an extra 44 kws & 411 nm. of torque in the lower rev range. Takes very little time to do this mod & the advantages are huge!!!! The traction control works overtime.
the DSG boxes limit via computors the amount of torque that the gearbox will take on take off. Apparently no probs with them yet.
My gti is a manual. Check out, www.goapr.com Awesome performance, well worth it. Makes a great car better!!!!

Its a pity your in Tassie , Seems so many APR gti owners here in Sydney dont want to come out and race at WSID with me .

Hey! The GTI goes SOOO much better now the weather has cooled right down. Didn't think it would make that much difference. Nearly took my Mk1 to the mainland to do some sprints tho I have sold the 9A out of it.

Hi everyone,
I'm the proud owner of a new black GTi, about a week old. Had a question about connecting an ipod and have been looking for a forum such as this. Does anyone know if this is possible so that it operates via the general stereo controls. Just wondering what make of sound system it is as that may give a clue as to what may work. I also have a Subaru 3.0RB which I've connected the ipod up to via a Clarion piece of kit.
Cheers and look forward to to being a part of this forum..

You've joined our growing cohort of Mk5 owners. I believe the ipod mod. is now available. Not sure if it plugs directly into the stereo.

(All users.. if you're looking for something specific use the "Search" function. It's on the blue bar above. Type in the key word, I typed in "ipod" and found the thread ;) )

Gooday Doggie. Welcome to the forum. I am out to find out about the ipod. Have heard it is available very shortly if not already. Good to have another Mk5 GTI owner on the forum. Great car, are you happy with yours so far? :) :)

Thanks for the warm welcome. Feel a bit guilty actually as I only had it a week and have already had a APR Stage 1 change loaded. Cost me $1,800 but absolutely worth the money as she pulls like a train now!
Called Barloworld yesterday to ask about iPOD and they confirmed that the part and fitting is available. Will call them back shortly and let you guys know.
I love this car - I had an E46 M3 for 2 years and have to say the GTi is as much fun, possibly more and at a third the price!
Cheers

Hey Doggy, are you going to the GTI thing at Sandown next month. See you there if you are! About 50 GTIs going I think. Will be a top day and the biggest gathering of Mk5 GTIs and Polos in Anstralia so far. Cheers, and enjoy that reflash!:) :)

Hi gtimk5 - maybe I haven't driven the car enough yet but when I first had the APR mod done, it immediately felt like a better car but I have to say I feel doubtful about the 188kw and even more about the 411nm of torque. I thought it'd feel much more grunty and in the words of the APR dealer (say this with an Irish accent) "pull loike a train".
I've reverted to the original a few times, driven it then loaded 98 Octane program and have to be honest and say I feel a bit underwhelmed. Maybe I should call the APR dealer and ask him to check it out as you sound like you're blown away by the increased performance you've got with your baby.
Cheers

I'm coming over next month. Have to catch up and take you for a run in mine. That way, if somethings not right with your car you can go back to your dealer and get it checked.
I will be over in Melbourne on the 19/20 August for the GTI thing at Sandown :)

Hi gtimk5, could I ask which order did you get the APR work done and could you describe the differences with each ie Tuning, Air intake and Exhaust? I'm going to see
the APR dealer this week as I'm just not feeling the tuning is that different from the stock standard - it doesn't feel like I have 188kw and over 400 nm of torque!! Sounds weird I know.

Hi Doggie. On my car and the other GTIs I have flashed, I have put the stock program in 1 position, ie. 1 flash per second of the engine check light
2 flashes per second for the 95 octane program as we don,t have 98 down here yet. On my car I have the 98 octane program in the 3 flash per second mode.
To set the programs switch the cruise swith to on. Press and hold the set button in, then switch on the ignition. After a few seconds the check lite will flash once per second 5 times, then a slight pause, then start flashing 2 times p.s. I would be fairly confident that stock on your car would be 1 flash p.s.
When it starts flashing twice p.second release the cruise set button and turn the ignition off. Wait for ten seconds, then turn ignitioon and the check light will flash for a very short time. Once it stops flashing the program is set.
Take it for a run and let me know, I am eager to know how it is.
If that doesn't work start the procedure again except with the 1 flash per second.
With the Ipod, our dealer still doesn't have them so I cannot tell you anything about them yet. I will keep trying..... Cheers, Andrew:) :)

Oh, by the way, I fitted the exhaust and intake at the same time so I can't say how much diffference each made but with the pair of them it makes a huge difference again with the flashing. I run the 98 octane program with octane boost added at the moment. We should be getting BP Ultimate this week I think. You should have two programs in your vehicle, the 3rd costs an extra $299. Let me know how you get on :)

Ive installed the Oettinger stage one, On paper its less than the APR upgrade only offering 173kw & 380-390nm. But damn its worth it. I have noticed the car is less drivable than it was in peak hour traffic. Making the DSG even more notchy. On the freeway the car feel like a different beast you rarely need to gear down. Launching with "launch control" is a smoke fest. Rolling acceleration is also a smoke fest. It will brake traction rolling up to 60kph. I've had the car since Feb and only upgraded it three months ago. At this point I have only good things to report. Except now my tyres need to be replaced.

The local dealers also do a free 6 hour (driving hours) upload. After which it restores the factory tune. I got them to install the demo. 10 MINUTES later they were installing the complete program. Its that good.

I hear APR is also a good option. Powerchips hmmmmm

Found these guys while reading MOTOR magazine, sounds the goods, similar to specs to APR and OETTINGER.

Had a look at http://www.qsz.com.au/home.htm as mentioned. Their site doesn't offer a GTI V/Jetta FSI upgrade. They seem to deal in chips. Chips are a more painful upgrade as most require the ECU to be opened and installed or sent to the programmers for installation. Upgrades to prior models especially.

I know the APR and OETTINGER upgrades only require a cable to be connected to the Engine Management interface. The internet handles the rest. The car is upgraded in 30 minutes.

As mentioned the companies that offer these upgrades ca supply a demo program for 6 hour driving free of charge. After which your car returns to the factory settings.

I chose the Oettinger upgrade becuase it offers a warranty (for what its worth).

I used Volkspower in Burwood Victoria for my Jetta.

I find it difficult to express the changes it made to my car except to say "Try it out for yourself". Most of you would know of the delay you get with the Turbo-DSG combination (especially after braking hard). It borders on dangerous. Had me thinking twice about pulling out into traffic. Its gone completely its now a metter of "press the accelerator and hold on".

The "kids" mode in the Oettinger option is cool, Drops the power and top speed to 100kw and 140kph.

The site must be out of date as the car that MOTOR magazine drove was a chipped MK5 GTI, 190Kw and 400nm along with C.A.I and full miltech exhaust. And yes they do require the ECU to be sent to them.

If you doubt it take it to a dyno and get it measured

Program does not go back to original factory program . The syntax is not the same between APR/Oettinger unit and factory

The warranty is oettinger warranty and not factory VW . So read terms and conditions of the warranty !!

I was only quoting what I was told by the installer VWPower, you may wish to qualify it before if you choose to undertake the offer.

Regarding Warranty if you read my post. I wrote: I chose the Oettinger upgrade because it offers a warranty (for what its worth).

I made no reference to it being supported under the factory warranty. I also stated "for what its worth"..

I cant help but smile everytime I drive my Jetta.. Its a pleasure to drive the torque is unbelievable.

When I come up against "STOCK" GTI's my smile gets bigger. My mate who has a GOLF V GTI still scratches his head and wonders why my car thrashes his everytime. I really should tell him what i did..
