as title suggests...

my dealer has given me the commission no. and he said i can get build no from vw australia? but there's no contact phone number.
he claims the car to be allocated in week 18.

I am having the same issue.
Been given a commision number and a proposed delivery date of Mid June.
I was told that a VIN will be supplied in a few weeks which should allow tracking of the vehicle.

Pretty much.
The factory will provide a VIN number to your dealer and then you can use that to track your vehicle after it is built.
There is no real reason to bother with build numbers and stuff anyway as you just make the wait seem longer.

My dealer printed all details for me. It includes the car specification with options I ordered and detailed built information, such as the planned production week, actual date of build, build number, build factory, vehicle ID, VIN, engine number, etc. Also it includes transport information and ETA. My car was build on the 2nd day of 1st week 2010, it has number 4278. But as Team_V mentioned, I don't think it's important for me.

Mine was set for a build date of April/May so I was told the Vin was not able to be obtained until closer to that date.
In the end, the only thing that really matters is the proposed delivery date.
There is plenty of reading on the forums and videos on youtube to keep you occupiied until delivery.
Or you can go and test drive other cars from VW to pass the time.
That is what i will be doing.

I have been told that Vin # is released during the build period and that your dealer will have it about day 4 of the build week. Approximately 2 weeks after that details should be in the ship tracking website and therefore you can calculate when the ship will be delivering to its drop off point for your car. Add a few (2-3) weeks for custom clearance and delivery prep and that should roughly match your delivery date.
Mine (purchased 1st week of January 2010) is being built in Week 10 which I calculate as 1-7 March. Then the excitement starts to build.

I purchased mine third week of January so i guess it is comparable (build April-may and Delivery Mid June.)
Ordered mine back in November made the deal BARGAIN, but the contract states that the estimated time of delivary is 30th April, I wont be surprised till i get it late May :-(
Who was the dealer that you were getting the VIN/Build no's? I bought mine from VW Parramatta.. ?

When did the dealer print all those details for you? As other have said getting the VIN is nigh on impossible until after the car has been built. Mostly because, as I understand it, the VIN is not actually allocated until (or just before) production. So I'm guessing you got all that info (esp the 17 character VIN) AFTER you car had been built.
The other thing for people to keep in mind is that a car may not actually show up on the WW tracking site until a day or two after it has departed Bremerhaven. Sometimes they will show up quite soon after they leave the factory, but other times it can take a few days.
My MINI showed up on WW as soon as it was booked, pretty much, which is generally the day the car is built. But it wasn't due to Southampton for 3 or 4 days after it was built. The S3, on the other hand, didn't show up on WW until my ship had sailed, so to speak.

I ordered my car in November as well. Originally, my contract says the delivery will be April/May, but my car will be discharged by this Thursday. So yours might be on the same boat? Your dealer should have some information. Call them.

When I chase up with my dealer, the car had already been loaded on the ship which had sailed to Australia.

Well guess what !! The dealer rang me on the Weekend and he said that the boat is coming early.. but i wont be gettin mine this thursday, it will be sometime towards the end of this month (march) which is GREAT!
He said the car has to go through customs and get cleared and then the extra options such as bluetooth and rear parking sensors, tinting has to be done here as they are not done in germany.. Oh well i waited this long !*sigh*

I contacted my dealer and was told that the seats have to be fitted.
Surely "Factory Fitted" options and seats would not be fitted here.
Can anyone confirm:confused:?
Yeah, that seems questionable. I'd be seeking clarification on that point.

That seems a bit "iffy" to me as well. Tinting is fair enough, because unless it's the privacy glass it's not a Volkswagen product, but surely all "factory" options are installed at Wolfsburg.
Maybe bluetooth could be added post-factory, but I doubt it, and I doubt VW Aus has a stockpile of bumper assemblies with sensors fitted waiting to be put on cars when they get to Australia.
Seems like steaming BS to me, so I'd be seeking clarification from your salesman.
I would think he is referring to the child seat anchoring points which are fitted by Patrick Auto Care when the car lands in Australia.
Thanks to our archaic ADRs. :brutal:

That sounds more like it.
Thanks Dermit
Bluetooth is dealer fitted in all cases. Rear parking sensors are also a dealer fitted option. It is not a replacement bumper. They simply drill holes for the sensors!
Well there you go, learn something new every day. Thanks for that. :toast:
