Looking for a mate who is moving back to Australia....again,
around the 8000 > 12000 mark is good, he'll stretch to more if it's something good.
Ideally, black sedan or wagon, manual, leather, V8 Turbo 6 or something with a bit of poke, low kms, not too old and ideally AWD or RWD, but nothing to Japanesey. (willing to make compromises depending on the car).
So far he's been keen on, HSV, one CSV, V8 Holdens and Fords, XR6 Turbo, Bora 4Motion, maybe WRX if it's tasteful. Euros are fine too, has to be a bit badass.
Last three people asking me to find them a car actually bought them.

If you can find one of these, I'll have one as well.

Is a Subaru Legacy too Japanese?
Imports are in wagon or sedan , mix of manual or auto and are turbo, 4wd so they go well in stock form
should be within the price range
no offense intended up if he wants low kms, not too old AND something with some poke then he is gonna need to increase his budget.
Either that or pick 2 of the 3 pre-requisites and he will be ok.

The Bora's go for 9k at auction if not less, I wouldn't exactly call it a performance car either
Subaru Bug-Eye Rex/STI would be my pick. There's probably a well modified WRX out there somewhere with STI engine and bits and pieces.

search on this website
http://www.uniquecarsales.com.au/
its a linksite with www.carsales.com.au
it groups the cars into hot 6's turboes, V8s, Australian, etc
then throw in your price range and its easy to start refining your search

I have a Bug eye rex and would like to see where you would pick one up for that budget, " with bits and pieces" come on

What about a Celsior? Can be badass but it's a bit of a cruiser too. 1UZFE too.

pdate 4/3:
1) The current price of $5990 is only if the following is swapped to standard: exhaust, front & side indicators, headlights, front and rear bodykit. If you would like these parts included, it will cost $1000 extra
2) $500 will be taken off if you want to purchase the car unregistered (although it will come with roadworthy if sold in QLD) but more for the interstate buyers
3) the price can be further negotiated if you want other parts taken off or returned to stock
