Well, we were getting some ridiculous sounds from our horn and then it stopped completely. I booked it in today on 11/03/10 - the first available appointment and for just to be look at and since our dealer doesn't keep the horn in the stock it will be again 2 visits to the dealer to fix very minor fault. :duh:
How is that mr. VW for reducing the carbon emissions?

Did any Touareg owner had the horn replaced under the warranty?

Fixed at Solitaire Automotive in one visit to the dealer I can't beleive it! A new horn fitted.
They done a great job even washed the car. All in less than a 1/2day.

The loaner car was Golf6 118TSI DSG with DCC, loved the drive.

It just confirms that the horns are the weak link in the Touareg, unable to last 3 years and the car didn't see any off road, just the bitumen. This time, out of warranty, I've decided to relocate the horns, so they can be easily replaced should they fail again. :)

Disected the horn today to find out what killed it.

It looks like that the Toureg horn is made not to last at all, unless you live in the country where never rains. :duh:

It was harder to remove the plastic part because it was glued on, but the body of the horn seperates from the membrane quite easily when the crimped seam is unfolded using the screwdriver. This horn was filled to the brim with the water and was completelly silent.

The second horn was still making some kind of demented sound, so I've drilled the small hole in it, allowing water to drain, sprayed the inside with the penetrating oil and it came back to life. :)

Umai Naa!!

I was kind of hoping you'd put a Klaxon in there :P

Yeah, I've replaced them before on a Touareg. Also done some MK4 Golfs as well, as they're in a bit of a vulnerable spot, too.
