So just got back from my Melbourne Parts run, where I managed to catch up with 3 members from this forum for parts and story swopping. Thank you all for your hospitality and enthusiasm, nice to put some faces to the names. Particular thanks to Peter Jones and his watercooled vinyl cutter!

So there I am, on my way back up the Hume Highway, just into NSW with a van loaded up with Golf Parts when bang, the back tyre exploded. Wouldn`t have been too bad, except that it wrapped itself round the handbrake cable, yanked it on tight and sent me round in a circle and backwards into the barrier. BAH

Managed to beat the arch out and change the tyre and drive 400kms home, but this is what it looked like this morning. Most of the parts escaped unscathed, but the golf engine in the back didn`t help the handling!

Correct my observant friend.

Notice it took the brunt of the impact. The old welsh gods looking after their wandering boy.

I was pretty annoyed about the van, but felt lucky not to be dead. Not the most stabe vehice to spin around on the motorway. So glad it didn`t tip over.

No worries man, glad you liked my engineering expertise bushman style with the dellortoes.

Yes the van was straight and had in fact been sold, but no longer, although my mate reckons we can straighten her out and weld a new side on! It still drives in a straight line.

Glad to hear you got home in one piece. Sounds like an exciting ride home! Certainly gets the adrenalin going when you're sliding backwards down the road at 100km/hr with the armco closing fast! I'm having flashbacks of some similar experiences. At least you're ok and it wasn't a VW you killed!

Nice to meet you too!
Cheers

Bad luck there loon but at least you are still with us.
As the old saying goes "**** happens"but sometimes its too often.
What with blowing motors, head gaskets and dud autos, the chinaman you ran over must sure dislike you.I suggest you reverse back over him so the bad luck stops.

Yeah I`m glad that didn`t happen in the GTI, although it would have been a lot more stable.
I`m really lucky with everything except cars. At least it was not a VW and I`m still walkng around.
