Hi folks,
Just wondering if anyone knows of any repairers in WA that can repair some minor gutter rash on a Charleston 18" alloy?
If it's not in WA, but in the East coast, how much does it usually cost to post a rim over?
I went a place called Alliance Rim repairs - seemingly the place to go here in the West - but they don't have the lathe and would charge me $300 to have it done in QLD, or $140 on a lathe that doesn't match up to the original.
My dealer sells one rim for over $1000, so I don't think I'll be going down that track. I doubt there are many wreckers that would have or want to sell a single charleston rim...
[update] contacted all 3 VW dealers here and they retail a single rim for between $1400-1500. that's one rim, no tyre, no fitting.

Spiff,
There's a couple of places to try, first up:
Wheel Gleam
22 McDonald Street Osborne Park
0411749451. 94448338
Contact: Simon
The other I can't remember at the moment but it's on the tip of my tongue. They are an engineering shop that can do the physical repair welding/machining but not painting. Will try to remember their details and post soon.....

Thanks Paul.
I've just come back from Wheelgleam and they can't do it. At $95 per wheel, he did suggest an alternative: machine all 4 wheels but I would have to get it clear-coated elsewhere. The look after machining would be as shiny as the VW logo in the middle of the wheels.
Also went to Associated Tyre Wholesale and they send their repairs to Wheelgleam too.
Looks like it's slim pickings in Perth. Has anyone anywhere ever gotten their 18" Charleston alloys repaired? I'd like to know how much it would cost if I were to find someplace in the Eastcoast that does it. Then all I'd add to it would be the shipping. Might be marginally cheaper than the $300 Alliance is going to charge.
cheers

Good day ... just wanting to ask if you were successful in having your rims repaired in WA. Am looking for a mob that can do wheel painting on a used set of alloys. perhaps your experience can help me through this process faster and with better results ... cheers

hi tiggy, i didn't get my rims fixed. the charlestons have a specific pattern that requires a specific machine unavailable in WA (alliance would have to send it to the east coast). i couldn't justify the cost and have better things to spend my money on at the moment. If, however, you don't require that and just need it remachined or repaired..i'm sure alliance or any of the other guys can do it. good luck!
