torque arm insert on 1.4 tsi

hi all,

i'm not too familiar with tai's but it seems like they are a cheap mod.
my question is this. are they worthwhile having on a 1.4 tsi?
i seem to see most people who install them having more powerful engines.

the neuspeed tai i'm looking at is here. i wrote to them, but since they don't have the 1.4 tsi, they're not sure if the product will fit.

dont think it would change it that much, I would think it would give you quite a harsh engine vibration to be honest...........VW...............

I've had one in for approx 6 months or so. The 1st-2nd-3rd gearchanges (DSG) are very direct, firm and even a little harsh. As the speeds rise and higher gears selected it's not noticeable at all. There is also some harshness when reversing, usually only noticeable when reversing up hill.

It's a cheap mod and worth experimenting with, depending of course on what you want out of the car.

It depends on how often you get your TC banging like hell when you give it a bit on takeoff.

The biggest improvement from the TAI is the dramatic reduction of the TC slamming on the brake and making you think the front end is falling out. In mine it made the DSG shifts smoother, but does vibrate in reverse uphill. Since I have only driven less than 100 metres in that mode, it doesn't bother me.

If you never drive that way, and don't even get wheelspin when it's slippery, you don't need a TAI. If ya do ya do.

Righto. 90% of the time, I'm not driving with a leadfoot, so TC doesn't come on much. The few times it has come on, it hasn't made much impact.

I guess I'll leave it and revisit this after future mods. At least I know what to look out for to decide if I need a TAI - thanks! :)

Nah.

You only need it on really high powered cars. I mean the kind of power that can make the wheels hop up and down continuously (wheel tramping).

A little bit of spinning is nothing, you really need a lot of power (150-170kw+) before you'll enjoy any benefits... Once you get into that sort of power, the wheels can spin up really bad and the axles can get into some really nasty tramping.

I had one put into the pirelli coz it was really tramping bad, but frankly you can drive around it after a bit of practice, you really don't need to spin up the wheels after you learn how to drive it properly.... No way you'd get any benefit on your car.

Furthermore, the engine vibration is noticeable, particularly when idling on an auto or DSG box... Not so bad on a manual... It look me ages to get used to it (now I kinda like it!)... It'll work out some extra rattles on your car earlier though, that's for sure.

So nah mate, I wouldn't bother with it.

Ah yes, forgot to add it does wonders for axle tramp (yes us TSI'ers get it too ;)), whilst it doesn't remove it completely it certainly makes it much less violent.

Yeah it made mine a fair bit better.. Frankly though, by the feel of it - you really don't want to put your car through that...

I was sure I was going to seriously break something the first time it happened..... For DSG'ers, shift up a gear and be on your way.....
