hi guys,
i got a mkv 2.0fsi tiptronic and would like to have better power and fuel efficiency. what is the simplest way to do with reasonable price??
thanks

You could get an ECU upgrade.

Exactly, go get an ECU upgrade and you'll get a power increase and better economy. Although remember - on a NA car you won't get getting a massive increase of power.

I have a tune and I have not seen an improvement in fuel economy.

Trade it in for a mk6 TSI? :P

A panel filter and exhaust may help it breathe a bit better, but you wouldn't get your money back in fuel savings.

Best bet: change your driving style to improve fuel economy. Read the manual for the recommended change points.

Take the spare and the back seat out to save some weight if you're really keen.

Could that be because you drive like a maniac? :P but I have seen a great increase. I think now I get about 780km instead before I got about 740ish. Sure it's not massive but it's still an increase.

Lose some weight from your right foot ....its cheap to do.

My TDi is defiantly doing better on diesel with the ECU flash and is so much more fun to drive!

I don't rate that bad if it's through traffic.

My right foot has been munching on cake and greasy chips and my car is a GTI so should use more fuel.....with the APR stage 1 I manage around 8.5 average.....if I put my grampa hat on I can get it down to around 7.9-8.0....at the track my best (higher being better :D ) is 32

+1, go easy on the acellerator!

(Also make sure running correct tyre pressures).

Ah, of course...Tyre pressures are very important....good one G-rig!

Speaking of tyre pressure, what should my GTI normally be at? I couldn't find where it says what the recommended psi should be. I have it at 34 and my fuel consumption seems a bit high. I average around 10.5L from Mon - Fri through 2 hours of traffic to and from work each day with 2 people in the car.

for a 45 series tyre I usually run at 38Psi .

I don't mean to be a prick, but if you want more power and less fuel use then the 2.0FSI is the wrong car for you.

philthy is right, the most effective way to achieve your goal is to get another car. A Mk6 118TSI or used Mk5 GTI / 2.0 TDI would be good places to start.

Granted Canberra traffic is a lighter than Syd traffic but over the last 18 months or so our GTI's average consumption is 8.9l/100km.

Let's assume you travel 15,000km each year and you save 1L per 100km by investing $1500 in ECU mods etc. Assuming petrol is $1.40 a litre you're only saving $210 per year so that's nearly 7 years to pay it back.

You would be better off running a premium fuel in the car (98 octane - BP ultimate) and you should see an improvement. The extra cost is only $135 a year but you should be able to save double that from increased mileage assuming that you're not running decent fuel already.

As G-Rig said make sure you have the tyres inflated above the recommended comfort levels.

Hmmm..... Well if GIAC weren't behind the times and released a tune for a power plant that's been in the market for the last 3-4 years maybe I would have considered them....

I just can't see how you can gain performance and gain better fuel economy... The 118TSI is a good example, VW de-tuned the motor to get better fuel economy out of it..

i take my foot off the accelerator pedal , it seems to work. The ECU flash just helped use the accelerator more. No real economy gains

If people want more power most wouldn't be retuning for better economy. It's also hard to drive more sedately after a reflash.

I'd get a 1.4TSI if you're worried about getting the best economy.
