I'm OK changing a thermostat on VW's but I have a question on the 1.4TSi housing bolts in the photo. It's a 1.4 TSi with a dual thermostat arrangement. I want to take out the lower temp 80'C thermostat known as Thermostat No.1 as I suspect it is staying open at lower temperatures giving a long warm up. It is located in a dual thermostat housing on the gearbox side of th engine. No.1 Thermostat is the most rearward unit.

Can some one advise me on the three screw bolts (red arrows) that are holding the end cap with the connection to the lower radiator hose connection.
VW have supplied to me three self tap type bolt screws. I am surprised at this because a couple of removals and it the base housing will be shot. They appear to be correct parts
The question is...... Is this the correct method of changing the thermostat? Or is it done by some other way to remove and refit the thermostat?
