I own a Eurovan GLS 2001 with a AXK 2.8L 24V VR6 engine and a 01P 4-speed automatic transmission. I was wondering if anybody knows if it would be possible to fit a manual transmission to this van. After some researching I have found out that the engine AXK is the same as the AMV and AYL engines.

The simple answer is yes......however you'll probably have to import a box from Europe. So it'll be expensive.

One of the lads on VWvortex has a T4 with this conversion.....he bought it after the conversion (done for a show car) and was told that to do the work was something like US$7,000 (?).

You would be able to do this.
All Transporter boxes are the same, manual 2L, 2.5L, 2.8L.
The bellhousing will physically fit on your motor.
You need a flywheel from a VR6 manual Golf, and clutch
Manual t$ Gearbox, TDI one is good if you can get it, hydraulic clutch setup from a manual T4 and shifter mechanism from the same.
I have a couple of T4 manual boxes here, but freight could be pricy ;)

Can you be more specific on which tranny code I can look for getting? Don't forget my engine is the AXK coded one. Is there an article/thread on the Vortex "project"? Which boxes do you have available? Are they 5-speed or 6-speed?
