Just been looking at the recent Best Car Awards, the CC comes under 'Prestige' catergory, $50 - $80,000 cars and comes fourth. No worries I thought, its very subjective anyway. However it rates the CC's security as 5 out of 10, where as the winner, Subaru Liberty gets 10, as well as some others. I thought the CC's security was pretty good, can anyone out there enlighten me as to why it would rate so poorly comparitively?

I found some information about security ratings. Remember these motoring organisations are now Insurers and rate car by their Insurance risk. So the Rating "Security" is not about how secure the vehicle is but the risk to the Insurance company (IAG) even though its called "security". The factors are as follows:

1.Theft from - rates the ease of entry and theft from the vehicle.

2.Theft resistance - rates the security provided by the vehicle's engine immobiliser.

3. Vehicle Identification - a rating based on the number of Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) body stampings on the vehicle, self-voiding security labels and microdots.

Although I couldn't find the CC and the Liberty VW generally scores highly on the first two but low on the VIN and microdot rating. Subaru scores highly on the VIN and microdot rating (but may not necessarily be any more resistant to theft!). So it could even come down to the number of VIN stamps on the car.
