Hi Guys..............was looking at Audi tt 2001 but after I sat in one and couldn't 'approximate' the front guards/front of bonnet, I have now turned my sights to a 2005 Golf Gti.

So a couple of questions please...............

1. What should I be aware of?

2. How many K's ...........is 130 too many?

3. What would be a bargain price for a 2005 GTI?

Thanks Guys......................

Are you talking about MK4 or MK5 GTI?
There were still a couple of MK4's around circa 2005...

However I would also assume you mean MK5.

Very cool cars mate, but Audi TT FTW!

Id look at something with less than 130ks on it. There are squillions of them out there. Whats your budget though? good examples usually hover around the 30k mark. Cheapest ive heard is around 25k

Why buy one that old when there are 07-08 models going dirt cheap ie 27k. It will be cheaper in the long run getting one with lower km (ie 40-60km).

Just my 2c, but the difference for a lower km one wont be much.

Thanks for the feedback Guys.............but was also asking what things/issues/problems one should look out for/be aware of that this vehicle has/may have and may require costly remedies?

Only thing that has major issues are the air con compressors (should of been replaced under warranty/recall?? - maverick has a link on his site about it)

and the DSG auto can sometimes need a new mechatronics unit. if you find one under 3 years old you can get the extended VW warranty for about 1300, will give u another 3 years and 60k.

hey mate... just got one - well about 2 months ago now.

FYI - 05 GTI, MK5 - Tornado Red, 68,000km's 6 speed manual, 5 doors, Factory Sat Nav, Sunroof, and Leather - $27K.

I got it checked out before purchase though - comp test, vw history on all/any parts ordered for this chassis/eng number, and the rest of the usual stuff. Did find factory dv to be faulty (leaking boost - but a common fault), so replaced it with Audi TT valve, apparently a much better product.

or you can buy my 07 DSG Leather with 45k on it for 33.5, stg 1 + full suspension mods, serviced every 7k5.

It helps to know what your budget is...

My car was coded when I got it, I was amazed to hear its not like that from the factory.... and honestly would be the first mod I'd do!

whats a fair price to pay to get front & rear bumpers, and side skirts colour coded?

most places tend to quote around $1000 mark for colour coding. Obviously if u hunt about you can get cheaper though.

white is apparently a total prick to match too, mine is out.. they tried twice and its still out. And I took it to other shops and they said they couldnt do any better.. But the bumpers arent matched from factory so what can you expect i guess

Dont haggle and you can complain later if you're not happy they'll be more obliged to fix it

I agree completely. Personally I think the black GTIs look significantly better stock due to the less noticeable difference between the bumper, skirts and other panels.

This will definitely be the first mod I do when I eventually become an owner - even if I do get a black one!

heh doublecab,

from Adelaide & travelled to Sydney to buy my 2005 Mk5 gti. Paid $22k for a one owner FSH mainly highway 140,000 km car. I love it. Full leather interior only option. Couple of small trim issues, aircon takes ages to work, I have read about all the condensor issues & hope it is just a regas, but mechanically solid as a rock. for modern cars I have no issue with mileage as long as service history is rock solid. a great car & a great buy, I was looking at mini's until my wife said too small, & just lucked upon this GTI. always loved them but up to a few months ago nothing ever under $25k. have seen a few cheaper recently. good luck

When doing my colour code they matched the cars paint quite well only to find that the upper section of the rear bumper from the factory isnt a great match. So my car is one shade, the upper bumper is slightly different and then the lower matches the car pretty well. Its really an issue from the factory and the place that did my colour could said that if I wanted it perfect I would have to paint the upper section of the rear bumper as well as it was off from the factory.

Funnily enough you can see the same effect on some factory colour coded pirelli edition cars. The difference is quite subtle but its there! Especially on a friends Silver one

Tim,

you seem to be around the corner from me... where did you get the colour coding work done?

- sorry a bot off topic -

My colour coding was done by a small workshop in dandenong. I only went with them because they are a client of mine and we did a dodgy deal for some gear they were after at the time.

Having spoken to them since I dont think they are overly keen to do the job again. As to smooth it properly its a lot of work! They quality of the job was ok. But not to the level that I would actively recommend them anyways.

Yeah, the paint reflects slightly differently and takes differently to plastic vs metal.

I just had my rear bumper done and i reckon now it s closer match than it was when i got it.

I know where there is a white 2005/6 GTI with only 26k on it for sale. prob worth mid-high 20's

yeah thats why i had the whole bumper painted.. it had several coats but still showed up two different shades between the upper and lower sections yet like yours my lower section seems to match the body quite well. The painter was at his wits end.. See it all the time on heaps of cars once you start looking for it, paint seems to go off on plastic a lot quicker than steel..

Hi..currently looking/doing the sums on one around that age & Ks but it would need to be a 4dr and DSG and also depends on the colour as 'the otherhalf' wants to drive it as well :(.

Whats the big pic on the one you mention?

Thanks..............DC
