View Full Version : If Golfs came in a more exciting range of colours, what would you choose?

My bugbear is that Golfs are always conservative in colour. Black, grey, silver... yadda yadda.
It's not that I don't like these colours, but it would be good to see something a little more interesting. Remember the old green ones? What would you like to see?

Yeah - I agree man, I'm sick of these 'colourised shades of silver' colours that too many manufacturers are using these days. Give me something VIBRANT please!

I personally love a nice vibrant metallic blue. Having said that, I'm hoping to pick up a Golf R when they come out, and so I'll be covered there! :)

Surely you don't want to see baby poo green, Grimace purple and those other hideous colours Holden and Ford have been churning out with the Falcodores? Gives me a headache. Or that might just be due to the cigarette smoke coming from the right arm hanging out the window.

Indigo, a dark metallic green, and a pearl effect purple albeit a very subtle on.

I personally rate blue as my favourite colour. However, Shadow Blue is too dark in my opinion. In direct sunlight it can look nice, but too dark otherwise, especially at night.

I bought silverleaf, but if there was a mettalic grey I would surely go for it. It's half way between the silver and united grey.

midnight purple would be ok..

Ps can't say I would ever want a cyan car, too girly as well.

No, I'm not a fan of baby poo colour schemes on cars, but it would be nice to see something other than silver and shades of it. I agree, a nice vibrant blue would be good (Mazda certainly have a great range of colours - without resorting to baby poo)
There are also shades of green that would look great on a Golf!

It's a bit too cyan for my liking, but it's still MUCH better than the "silver and shades of it" colours normally on the Golf :)

There was a German guy on the golfmk6.com forums who said that over there you can pick pretty much any colour you want, but the cost of the colours varies, not just metallic and non-metallic prices.

So I guess VW Australia just wanted to import the safer colours.

I wonder if there is anyway to pay the extra for a 'special' colour when ordering....

Not if you're a girl........

Sorry, i should have stated it would be ok for girls (bit like the mini turquoise colour).

Agree that we dont need too many ferrule colours like the disgusting falcadoor colours.

Also seems that you can only buy Subaru Liberties in shades between black and white.

I'm rather partial to the Skoda "Sprint Yellow" - I've had it for 18 months now and am really liking it. I know yellow isn't to everyone's taste, but hey, no one else paid for my car - I did :)

I really don't understand why VW won't let people doing a factory order choose from the full range of colours that are available at the factory. It's not like they keep a stock of ready painted body panels in the std colours or anything. If they are worried about getting stuck with a car in an "unsellable" colour then they could simply demand a very large non-refundable deposit at the time of ordering.

In the UK some of the smarter Skoda dealers found a way to get "non-std-UK" colours by ordering the car in a std-UK colour, then faxing the Skoda factory with an amendment to the non-std colour the buyer actually wanted. Seemed to bypass the UK head office control freaks and give the paying customer the car they really wanted.

like paul said.... light metallic blue (now, call me a fruitbooter but in my opinion the ONLY COLOR for modern mid engined ferraris is the super light metallic blue.... hands down)...

in addition: deep metallic plum (purple/pink)

and of course.... super-metallic burgundy. who could say no to that on ANY car?

The choice of colours was the only thing we didn't like about the 118TSI. That said, my wife loves her black car A mid blue or tornado red would have been better, however.

So, if anyone sees a black 118TSI with a pink fairy hanging from the mirror in western Sydney, it's Mrs cme2c.

If enough people start asking for different colours VW may listen.

Public campaign. Free the Golf of boring colours!

The no 14. Ink blue Pearl would be my choice, when i got my GTI , the dealer had their last r32 in metallic blue for sale. If I had the extra money would have bought the r32 for the colour alone (of course the AWD and v6 would have been nice too).

as for VW listening, .... think I will have to save up for an r20.

Or at least let us Special Order them.

Yeah - this is what I'd like to see happen. I don't understand why there could be any possible reason to restrict something like "factory order colour choices" from one country to another. As long as the customer is happy to wait and understands it's a special order, what is the problem?

The Yanks get about the same number of colours as us.

Interesting... the first 8 colours (bar basic black) in that chart are the colours the Mkvor VI GTIs have been available here in at some stage or another.

That sure is an interesting colour selection...

And I suspect VW's reason for not allowing special order colours is to protect the dealers in the case where the customer either defaults on their contract and forfeits their deposit, or else receives the car and then complains that the colour wasn't what they were expecting and then chooses not to accept the car. Sure the customer may be liable under the contract for reasonable expenses, but I can imagine more than a few of those hues would be hard for a dealer to shift, irrespective of the compensation received.

Reseda Green - I can see that one just running out of the showroom. Or maybe that's just the customers who eyeball it. ;)

Black with red metallic through it. Subaru did it on the WRX for a very short time, too.
