Carsguide practically revealed theirresult last week (http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newforum/upload/showthread.php?t=37682)

I voted for the 118TSI of course in the Drive COTY, but I didn't see anything on the people's choice?

Makes you happy knowing you bought the right car :).

VW sent me an SMS '2009 Car of the Year VW Golf' - I sent one back '1975 Car of the Year VW Golf' - haha.

Nick Senior has lost count (http://www.ausmotive.com/2009/11/26/rex-gossip.html) of all the awards the GTI has won. :nana:

I like this little snippet from the GTI write-up:

..... several judges noted its performance on the slalom course – a series of witches’ hats set up at intervals through which cars are threaded at speed to test their steering and handling – was bettered in the 46-car field only by the mighty Nissan GT-R, a track-focused rocket almost four times more expensive.

First-hand, I know how well it handles, but wow!

Anyone see the Ch 7 Morning Show this am describing the "unexpected" winner of the COTY. Unexpected because its not really "a popular car like a Holden or Ford". They were shocked like they'd never seen a Golf before. LMAO.

Well congratulations to them. They've built what the Mk5 should have been.

Now all they have to do is stop making every succeeding generation slightly bigger than the previous one. :emo_baghead:

Well deserved. Feels and drives as well and often better than many other bigger and more expensive cars (luxury cars included).. I continually dazzle and impress anyone new I take for a spin in my baby..

Definitely!

Must admit that when I placed my order and started signing all of the paperwork, a bit of buyer's remorse started settling in and in my head I was asking myself - "Am I really spending almost $50k on this?! My Honda Civic is more than adequate"

Though I'm sure my decision will be vindicated once I receive delivery and when I stretch its legs on Wiseman's Ferry Road.

The fact that it's winning all of these awards and coming out on top on nearly every single comparison review with its competitors certainly helps in removing any traces of buyer's remorse

Sure did. The Passat CC TDI won the Best Luxury Car under $60,000 category.

Deserved, the passat cc is a great car and looks the part!

Ricksterrr the wait will be worth it, I've always had RWD cars and was kinda regretting the move to FWD but this FWD is something else...

Even MORE surprising though was that the Polo (yes, the current old one! lol) got 2nd Place in the http://www.australiasbestcars.com.au/2009/mid_under.htm award! WTF :D

As expected the R32 also was 2nd place to the BMW 135i in the http://www.australiasbestcars.com.au/2009/sports.htm category.

So I would say that VW is very well setup for next year. The new Polo is HEAPS better than the current one, and the Golf R should improve enough to beat the BMW 135i.

I find it kind of amusing - the Golf wins WCOTY, so by definition it has to be COTY everywhere else.

But not in Ireland ....... http://www.caradvice.com.au/49734/peugeot-3008-irish-car-of-the-year/
