Saw this on the MkIV Golf section I think we should one also. Local or overseas, from the Internet or ones you've taken yourself.

No talking unless you're posting a pic!

This is one of the first T4 pics I ever saved from the internet. I think it's a Dutch equivalent of the RAA< NRMA etc.

Kfz-Kennzeichen - the german registration system has a lot of information coded in it. For normal private owners the first letter(s) to the left of the emmisions and insurance stickers indicate the district where the owner lives. This used to be the case for official vehicles as well, except that police etc had only number to the right of the stickers, whereas private owners have a letter then numbers.

From April 2006 a new code 'BP' for Bundespolizei was introduced, so in the pictures the older vans still have the district code, with the newer ones having 'BP'. Also vehicles get transferred from district to district, so an older van can have a new plate...

By the way, the picture titled 'Kiel Police' is in fact a customs 'Zoll' van, not a police vehicle.

A T4 California I saw in Pt Augusta in April this year. The German couple put it in a container & sent it to Perth ($5000 return). It's a 2.4 Diesel Syncro with around 200,000Kms. They live in the mountains of southern Germany where the syncro is used to great effect in the snow.

Thought some might be interested in seeing a removable bed base I built. The need was for something that could be set up and taken down quickly by one person so the van can be a van when it's not a camper. Pics were taken when some pieces were still to be attached. The 3 frames are treated pine, screwed and glued; the platform is two sheets of structural plywood.

Below:The mattress was a new old stock caravan mattress.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2008/10/bed001-2.jpg

Below:Lower angle view. The piece of ply on the far left was screwed and glued to the outside of the frame by which it lies, similar to the other frames. These act as bracing.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2008/10/bed002-1.jpg

Below:Mattress off.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2008/10/bed003-2.jpg

Below:One part of the platform off. The platform pieces attach with mushroom headed bolts and wingnuts.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2008/10/bed004-1.jpg

Below:Both platform pieces off.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2008/10/bed005-1.jpg

Below:View from the rear. The cross piece of plywood acts as a lateral brace and is attached by mushroom headed bolts and wingnuts. The piece of ply on the floor was screwed and glued to the outside of the frame by which it lies.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2008/10/bed006-1.jpg

Below:On its first camping trip.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2008/10/bed007-2.jpg

Below: My better half discovers it's a comfy place to lie across and read during the day. The height of the platform was determined to suit stowing crates, plastic boxes and other camping gear under. The gap along the left side is useful for storing things overnight such as a drink bottle.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2008/10/bed008-2.jpg

The whole thing comes apart into 6 pieces that store in the shed and the mattress that goes in the spare room. Cost was about $200 (mattress $50 from a local caravan place; wood, bolts, screws and glue from Bunnings) and it took an afternoon to make. It takes about 20 minutes to get out and assemble; the same to take down and put away.

I've already got some modifications in mind!

I made something similar many years ago for a L300 van I had. Mine was made in two single beds so if it was just me I would have more room for my gear. Simple cheap and easy, hard to beat!

Here you go this works I had it in my first T4 & cut 100mm of the side to fit this T4 Xambo so I can put 2 motorcycles in & I still have storage space on top of the cot when its in the up position .
Just pop the handel in the windlass & lower it down slide the legs in pin them at the height we need at the time I tie it to one side so the wife can get in & out no worries stand up dressing room for her to play in .
Works for me . made from recycled alloy square & other off cuts pop riveted togeather & a sheet of thin ply with 6" foam on top ripper .
Got tinting done on the screen NSW aproved shade just to keep my paws from geting burned the rest of the van is in ambo tint as I bought it .
Got rubber backed curtains to keep the dark in & save the AC & diesel on them hot days when i dont run the rear AC with the cot up it just wastes energy .
I have a full anex for the left side & a lean to pit bay for the rightside making use of 2 sliding doors.
Soon as I work out how to get my images on here better then I will post more stuff but for now you will just have to click them open sorry . TC
Any administrators want to open these picks up feel free then teach me how to

Hopefully someone will be amused by the tale of my much-loved old Maglite torch that I thought I'd lost during a post-Christmas road trip. It's only a little 2 x AA battery thing but it's a top little torch and, more importantly, my better half bought it for me over 15 years ago. I heard a clatter of something rolling into the side door step well while pulling up in a Qld country town and realised immediately what it was. Thought I: 'I must grab that as I open the door so it doesn't roll out onto the road and get lost'. Well, I forgot and it rolled out and was lost - I thought. Fast forward to a one night away camping trip earlier this month and I happened to look down and see this:

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2009/02/maglite-1.jpg

It hadn't occurred to me that the door wasn't opening all the way. The Maglite had rolled into the lower track area then been banged back by the door roller thingie til it was stuck fast. I drove around with it jammed there for another week til I could get around to spraying it with a heap of silicon spray and prising it out with a screwdriver. :)

Incidentally, here's our camp site earlier this month - a Qld state forest park and only us and two other pairs of campers. Great!

Took off from the Gold Coast on Boxing Day and headed north, then inland and back down. No advance bookings or real plans, just stop when we stop. Typically hot Queensland weather, 40 degrees plus in some places. The aircon was struggling!

Night one was Hervey Bay; Night 2 Agnes Water; Night 3 Cania Gorge; Night 4 Bjelke-Petersen Dam near Murgon; Night 5 Allora near Warwick then home the next day.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2009/03/rDSC_2047-1.jpg

Above: Nice bush style camping and caravan ground just outside Agnes Water after finding there and 1770 packed to overflowing. A basic sort of place but just what we wanted - and it had a pool which was great because it had been the first of the really hot days. The sign outside said 'No Vacancies' but we asked anyway and they did have space.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2009/03/rDSC_2063-1.jpg

Cania Gorge has a state forest picnic area and 2 private camping-caravan parks. The one we stayed in was a real family park and good value.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2009/03/rDSC_2075-1.jpg

The next day we drove up the road and checked out the Cania Gorge Dam lookout.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2009/03/rDSC_2115-1.jpg

On the road somewhere near Monto (I think) the same day.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2009/03/rDSC_2086-1.jpg

Same as previous, different view.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2009/03/rDSC_2117-1.jpg

There was a thunder storm that night at Bjelke-Petersen Dam near Murgon. Tent campers were washed out and had to shelter in a hall. The rain caught in a tarp over the top of a milk crate - and this was on the leeside of the driving rain.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2009/03/rDSC_2118-1.jpg

On the side which copped the rain and wind, the next morning the van was plastered with leaf litter.

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2009/03/rDSC_2138-1.jpg

Our final night was at a little caravan park at Allora on the Darling Downs. It was a bit run down but a nice little place to sit outside and drink a glass of wine as the sun went down.

Drove into Warwick for a look around the next day then home.

Actually David, I happened by chance the other day to look at the Rules of the Forum (http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newforum/upload/showthread.php?t=21720) and realised some of these pics break the rule about 800px x 600px physical size :duh: so when I have a chance I'm going to resize them.

How they got to be so big though is that's the size they are (after downsizing in Photoshop and compressing) and I'm uploading the pics to my account at www.photobucket.com and linking to them using the IMG link option. Are you using Photobucket? And how are you resizing and compressing pics? Send me a private message if you like so we can avoid breaking the rule about not chatting unless posting a pic on this thread LOL!

Neil

Gee, I feel quite chuffed that my design works for someone else. Shucks! Looks like your better half finds it as comfortable as mine! :) I hear you about finding more weekends away - we're looking at Easter as our next one but I could do more.

First time out with the bed platform we found our pillows were slipping down between the platform and the back door during the night (our T4 has the liftgate but same thing if there's a gap). A mod I made straight away was a headboard and next time the platform's in the van I'll take some pics to show it. It adds about 2 minutes to the set-up.

How are you attaching that curtain separating the front seats area? Is it velcro?

We had our second weekend away. A small place down the South Coast, past Moruya, called 'Congo'. Right on the beach.
I made my platform to be only a couple of mm away from the doors. No slipping pillows. Plus, with the barn doors it is a bit easier getting some of the gear out. I just have to figure out how the fridge works on the portable battery.
Next trip is Mudgee at Easter for a Bike Muster. Pushies all weekend.

Hi Ben,
(Do you know) What's the name of the Alloys in the last picture?
Will be looking for a new tyres soon and I see as 16" as a better range.

VW Campaign I think ?

I answered my own question by going to the VW Australia site - the 'Fears No Comparison' campaign is VW and there's a very nice TV commercial (http://www.volkswagengroupaustralia.com.au/VWComm_TVC_2010/VWCommTVC.html)to go with it but I suspect the graffiti touch is Solitaire's angle on it.

Nice trompe l'oeil with the hoodie doing the spraying but I can't say it makes me feel more inclined to dash out and plump down a deposit, just reminds me of having my fence vandalised, lol!

I saw this Transporter park outside my apartment a few days ago and I thought I recognised the alloys. A bit of a google search confirmed them being Range Rover Sport wheels. If this Transporter is yours, well done on your chose of wheels, they suit the van really well.

The X5 wheels only fit onto the T5. Stud pattern for bmw and the T5 are 120x5. Whereas the T4 is 112x5?

I'd love hear any stories from car or 4x4 owners who have moved over to the multivan. I'm coming over from a Nissan navara duel cab ute with canopy, and am really interested in the pros and cons. I own a tiguan and am a dedicated VW nut, so I know I'll love it!

No spacers, but hub rings were used, and different wheels bolts to suit the different countersink in the wheels. In regards to the lowering, as the tyres are a little bit higher profile, maybe only 20 or 30 mm should do it!

They are APEC rims available from St George tyres in Sydney, they were photoshopped onto my Van to see what they might look like. I since found out they do not have sufficient load rating for the Multivan so went with the X5 rims instead.

Here are some pics of our MY11 132 kW 4Motion in Natural Grey. We picked it up on Monday afternoon but we've been out enjoying it so much I haven't had time to get onto the forums.
This things sticks to the road like glue and runs like a freight train up hills. We're very happy with it.
Love the fog lights when they turn as you enter a driveway in the dark, it's fantastic!

Massive thank you to Wes Bond out at Trivett Blacktown for everything his done. Wes was an absolute pleasure to deal with.

Edit... Just finished installing the rubber matting through out the entire Multivan which I grabbed from Clark Rubber today. Few things I'd do better next time is do it during the day (if it wasn't high 30's) and make a template from paper/cardboard. Apart from that it looks OK and will stop the carpets from getting messed up.
Pics to follow when I get a chance.

Wow even better than I had expected as I only drove the 103kw it's loads of pickup and no DSG lag that some had complained about.

Really the best part of the experience was how WES BOND looked after us with a lot of changes in our orders and sussing out different options for the long list of requirements we had. The Van came in a month ahead of our first scedule and WES worked to get us into the Van for the weekend.

Nice job with the plywood floor Foxpuppet. I was interested to see you used pocket foil insulation for the walls. I used the the same in my Caddy, including between the ceiling lining and roof. It made a noticeable difference to the radiant heat gain inside the van in Adelaide's hot summer days. I couldn't believe VW were so cheap as to not give the roof some insulation.

Cheers

Yes they do. If your van has DSG, then the wheel is plug.n.play. No programming required. Not sure how this will work in a van without the MFD and MF steering wheel though, as my van already had that fitted.

Hi Mate

Nice looking ride. What wheels do you have on the car and what size are the tyres. Trying to work out what will look the best on my beast.

Also, how do you find towing with it lowered? Do you go springs or coilovers?

Thanks

Sooley

mikinoz
19-10-2011, 04:58 PM
Hi mate,

It is lowered on KW V1 coils at the lowest setting on the front and rear normally.

For towing, I wind the rear up to the highest setting (takes 20 minutes to do both sides and prevents any rubbing/damage).

The wheels are 18" with 255/55R18 rubber as I find this size easier to source than the smaller 235 etc.

I am pretty happy with the setup - my Mrs likes it as well.

The coilovers come from TPR engineering, Chris knows all about it chris@tprengineering.com

Glad you like her.

Sorry I don't have a link as it was ordered by a friend who imported it as part of another larger order. I believe they are the same as on eBay, but this one has the LED version screen, from Lithuanian seller.

The total cost was around $2500 which included the RNS, some antennas, adaptors, cabling, upgrade to LED screen and SSD HD and rear view camera etc.

I don't have any installation pics/DIY sadly, I am not patient enough to document my work. I had a lot of help with the install from a few mates as well that know their stuff with CANBUS.

I think it is the best solution for the vehicle, it is on the latest maps and has a rapid speed as the SSD in it. I could not find a unit that was as good, despite them being cheaper, but I love the OEM finish and feel. I have also managed to get full height MFD integration on the dash.

Hi Sunny43.5, love the twin sun roofs, how'd you get those? I didn't know you could get one in the rear.

Took the family down the Ingar Firetrail at Wentworth Falls. Lovely little camping spot at the end of the firetrail with a small waterfall with pool.

First time I have used the SLR to shoot the Multivan, and I was still in a rush so this is not fantastic.

Looks good, love the headlights as well.

I'm sure I read it here somewhere before, but what wheels are those? Commodore?

And was it a straight fit?

I'm due for front tyres after only 21000km .... and a new set of rims that can go on the TSI van later will be good.

They're X5 wheels, I have a set in my garage if you want to take them to try the on Sharkie, they still have the 255X55 tyres on them which are a bit bigger than the standard rolling diameter but you'll get to see what they look like on your van.

PM me if your interested.

Yes well pointed out. You'll require different lugs, hubcentric ring adaptor to match up different centre bores and to put the correct tyres on the wheels as those Continental Runflats on 255/55 make the car perform and handle like rubbish.

The headlights in mine were great until the car was hit recently. New set on the way slightly different design when the smash repairer gets around to fitting them.

Hello Brasstinman , I fitted the sunroofs in both vans but to be very honest I would not fit another in the rear of a T5. I procastinated for 6 years before taking the plunge on my own work van, nearly eight hours work . Most was the adaption of the internal and external frame to suit the "ribbed" roof profiles . New headlights and a complete front spray to remove the stone chips.

Looks great but isn,t it a bummer that to keep them looking this good a respray is required , as ours were standard Transporters the plastic bumpers take most of the impacts without virtually any evidence of hits , leading edge of the bonnet still cops it though .
