Wheel Wax

Wheel Wax is, well, pretty much wax for your wheels. It's a product I started to use after hearing about it on the EuroCCA forums.

Basically it's a wax that goes onto your wheels; it's meant to give the wheels a glossy look and allow it to "reject" brake-dust, dirt, and other grime that ends up splashing on to the wheels whenever we drive. While the wheels will still get dirty, they will be considerably easier to clean.

Pardon the advertisement-like image there, but it best represents what it can do for the wheels.

I applied them to my factory alloys and they came out a lot more glossy than just using car wash/wheel wash. They are applied the same way you apply wax onto the body of your car - using polishing cloth, spread the product evenly onto the wheels, then buff it off.

I also applied them to my BBS that I got recently (thanks Tom) and have shoved them onto the car - it's been about a week since I've got them on. Brake dust/dirt/etc still gets on to them, but it's unbelievably easy to clean them off again. What used to be some rubbing and car wash is now just a finger smear.

While not a necessity, it sure makes cleaning a lot easier. It's meant to last for a good six weeks, and while it's applicable when it's still on the car, it's definitely a much easier job if the wheels are off the car so as to not break your back. It doesn't take too long, but it sure works out those finger muscles, especially if you own a set of mesh wheels.

At ~$40 for a tub (think of hair gel), it's a small price to pay to keep your wheels looking tops and protecting them from mother nature. I've applied them to two set of wheels, and it still looks fairly full, so a tub can go around a long way.

I use poor boys it works a treat keeping the pickup off the wheels on track days and makes cleaning off brake dust a breeze.

HAHA yes they do! I still haven't thrown the old polishing cloths out after using some of the wheel wax, and every time I walk past, I can't help but take a whiff :rolleyes:

I've tried to find this product locally, but I've had no luck. I was given a sample of a similar wax and it stank! It was in liquid form and made the wheels look cloudy until they were buffed.
I used it on my RC's before installing and it kind of worked. . . . I hosed the wheels down and it removed the SOME of the brake-dust, but the remaining dust was patchy - so it looked much worse than before.

Kind of frustrating because it was smelly and hard to apply.

Great product, I've been using it for ages on all my wheels, just ask James who bought my R32 Aristo's recently to use as track wheels and as he said they are in better condition than the Aristos he had on his car so he is going to use mine as his daily wheels and his as the track wheels.

The Poorboys Wheel Wax makes it so much easier when you wash your car as any brake dust just rinses off. Just make sure to clean the wheels thoroughly first (even better if you can take them off the car first time to do the inside of the wheel) then apply around three coats the first time you use it, then follow up with one coat every three or four washes.

Hi Maris,

Your order was placed at 4.42pm (Brisbane time) on Tuesday 13th, it was posted via Australia Post Receipted Delivery service on Wed 14th at about 3.30pm. You were sent an email at 6.18pm Wednesday to advise you of this.

Aussie Post state a 4 to 5 clear working day delivery period from Bris to Adelaide so you should see it around the middle of next week.

The parcel needs to be signed for, if you arent home Aussie Post should leave a card in your mailbox and you will have to go the local Post Office to collect the parcel.

After 3 coats of Poorboy's Wheel Sealant and Meguiars Shine on the tyres.The wheel definately has a slippery feel to it and a bit more shine. I was going to have them polished, but I don't think so now.

These wheels are still in good condition after 6 years, and no kerbing!

Looking good mate, the bonus now comes when you go to wash the brake dust off the wheel next time and it just hoses off. A coat every third wash or so is all I do to keep them looking good.

Wow! Great shine to it! Wheel Wax doesn't offer that kind of shine to it. You say it's 6 years old but that's as good as new to me.

Thanks for the compliments....This style wheel was not the one I wanted. I'd ordered a Caravelle wheel, but this arrived. When I saw the quality and felt the light weight I couldn't resist it. The finish is superb!

Í've got two more new spares, which I'll have to wax.

Unfortunately I won't have time to do all 4 before our show day Sunday :(

I've done both cars now. I saw a UK post where the guy clayed the wheels before applying the wheel wax. The clay helped to get rid of the brake dust stains on the inside.

The clear coat surface was super smooth too - as you would expect.

I used poorboys wheel wax BTW. Great product.
