View Full Version : GTi availability
Hi, newbie here from Adelaide.
If I want a white GTI 5 door DSG, how long would I wait? I'm not fussy on options so could I find one on a showroom floor?
TIA

Welcome mhh!
From what I understand it depends on the dealership.
When I ordered mine, i was quite fussy on the color, and options... but luckily enuff there was one that met all those specifications that had just arrived on the container ship in NSW - and so all they had to do was to bring it down to Melbourne from there - took like about 2 weeks.
As for CW with DSG - the dealer was trying to sell me that coz they had several available with different options loaded - but went with SB instead.
Hope it helps mate!

Just have to tell the dealer what you must have and what you would like and they will try and find one for you.
One dealer even went searching for me off a cold call to him.
Ended up buying the car he found off my local dealer.
Alls fair when buying cars.:D

Welcome mhh,
I'm sure that you will be able to ring up and see what can be done for you. Even go to the dealers themselves and ask.

Welcome mhh :D
Make sure you shop around before buying ;)
Look @ interstate dealers if you want a discount ;)
Thanks guys. The car isn't for my use, but for a family member who is thinking of a change. Anyway, I drove both the manual and the DSG GTI this morning and I was very impressed. The dealer has been looking today for a car but warned me it might be hard. I'm not sure if we are ready to do a deal yet, but I've got a new favourite compact car after today's drive. :)
Edit: Dealer now confirms there are no GTI cars available (to him anyway) in Australia in 5door White with DSG.
I'd get you to independently confirm that claim just quietly.
Or, maybe try saving a few bucks on carsales (http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/VOLKSWAGEN/GOLF/details.aspx?__Ns=pCar_Price_Decimal%7C1%7C%7CpCar _PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32%7C1%7C%7CpCar_ImageCount _Int32%7C1&Make=VOLKSWAGEN&State=All%20States&R=472816&state_id=0&distance=25&__Dx=mode%20matchany&trecs=52&Model=GOLF&__Nne=20&__N=4294962746%200%204294962677+834+285+257&sort_type=3&silo=1003&keywords=GTI&__sid=110648EB7C5C&Cr=1&__Ntk=CarAll&__D=GTI&seot=0&__Ntt=GTI&__Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial) or somesuch. :)

I have heard how un-enthusiastic the Adelaide cdealer is. Took em over 6 months to sell a GTI mk5 after their release? Not sure if they even had a demo either at the start? I think I would try Vic dealers as some of SA people have done.
I pity you over there in that respect but I love Adelaide ect!!!!:D
Welcome to the forum too,
Cheers, Andrew :)
Well if anyone spots a new white GTI 5 door with DSG in a showroom in the next month, please let me know!

Andrew - I'm tempted to open a dealership to compete with S******re our only SA Stealership.
Only the funds are holding me back :D lol

Edit: I've found a couple of cars in Melbourne too. Looks like they aren't so rare after all.
I've ordered one from the local dealer after all. He found one in the end. White 5 door DSG should be here in a couple of weeks. I'll post some pics when it arrives.
Thanks for your help guys. :)
Nice one. Congratulations.

Congrats mhh :D
While the SA Dealership has its faults (mainly no competition ;)) they are good with their other services (servicing cars and tending to Enthusiast -one salesperson I've befriended-) :D

Sorry to hear about the waiting period though... At least you will be getting one that has a 2007 build date.
What specs?? 3dr? 5dr? man? DSG?

Don't be too :( about your "short" wait... we ordered ours (3 dr/DSG/bi-xenons/shadow blue) in late December and won't see it until late May/early June! The reason for such a long wait is because of the build allocation of 3 door GTI's for Australia, which is just about now (last one was September, I'm guessing) and it sounds like your's is in the same allocation as our's (if it's a 3 door?).

Went for 5 door manual with leather seats. Tornado Red. Can't wait to get it - I look at the brochure about 20 times a day! :D

I'm hoping that I get around the massive wait (luck). Personally I don't think any car (thats right i mean GTI's as well) is worth a 5-6 month wait...

I did the same thing. I even scoured the net for GTI pictures and video and produced a GTI DVD to watch. Pretty Tragic hey.

There was an allocation of January build 3drs for Australia. I have a mate who is expecting to have his delivered by this weekend. It was built in early Jan 07, landed in Sydney late Feb ... it's taken a while to get to Canberra for some reason.

I'm guessing the "take a while to get to Canberra" bit would be compliancing and customs etc. etc.
No, even after that. Through the WW tracking site you can get a pretty good idea when it has left Customs, his car left Customs on the 1st of March IIRC.

My wife is starting to think I am obsessing about it! No way!:D :D

Golf GTI. The gift that you give (yourself) that just keeps on giving. :)
Do dealers ever bring in cars with all the options (xenons, sunroof, leather, satnav etc) for stock, or are the higher priced cars only on customer order?

They very rarely order GTI with all the options. I put in my order last week for a fully optioned GTI. It has to be factory ordered, which meant 4 months wait. If you want a fully optioned GTI, my suggestion is put in your order early
