Definitely type tiguan into ebay and have a look around.

Exterior B pillars, lights, dashmats, carpets etc.
There is so much stuff, mostly ffrom overseas but with our strong dollar it will make it a lot cheaper to get.

There are mats on Ebay Australia all the time. Both rubber and carpet.

Do a search for Tiguan and a few sets always pops up. The prices are good as well.

An Aussie-made towbar?

Hayman Reece does them. The Australian-spec Genuine towbar is made in NZ by Best Bars, if that counts.

Tedhaggie

Suspect you have to add the VW wiring kit to the Hayman Reese . Their web site doesn't list a bar for the Tig.

I note that the Best Bars site says you have to add the genuine wiring kit.
From talking to my VW dealer the bb seems to be a hitch receiver type bar
Does anyone have a photo

are the BB and HR hitch receivers compatible

Hayman Reece does them. The Australian-spec Genuine towbar is made in NZ by Best Bars, if that counts.

Emailed Hayman Reece and got a reply email on the 30th of July. They said they are working on a design for the Tig and hoped to have it ready in 8 weeks from the dated email.
The eight weeks is just about up, I should be told when they have one in production and I'll be sure to let everyone know.

Interesting.

I'm pretty certain one of our customers has a Hayman Reece bar on his. I'll check into it during the week.

:?:Does anyone know whether VW are bringing in the rear sunshade for the Tiguan or whether it's a one piece item? I've got the rear side window screens and they fit so well and don't flap with the windows open - no more baggy window socks. I looked on the German website but there weren't any details in regards to dimensions and it's difficult to phone them when you don't speak German.

Got a link for me I can look at? I speak German

Never mind: I just found it on the German Site. Here is the link: http://www.volkswagen-zubehoer.de/shop/product_info.php?info=p1585_Sonnenschutz--fuer-Kofferraum--und-Heckscheibe.html
It comes in a set of 3. One shade cloth for the back and one each side for the rear side windows in the boot area.
Unfortunately they don't post this item, even within Germany. You will have to pick it up at the dealer of your choice.
There are no dimensions given other than it is cut to size to fit the Tiguan.

It looks as if it's similar to mine so I've put a couple of pics here that may be clearer for people. Mine was fitted by the dealer in NZ and is NZ made.

You'll see in the last pic that all you can see when it's "off" is a small piece of the "down tube" sticking below the bumper. It's a VERY clean installation but isn't any use for "add ons" that require a horizontal tube fitting. I guess you could get a right angle tube adaptor made up if you wanted that functionality.

Cheers

Add to cart and then provide Australia as the country and postcode (4034 for me, but 4000 is the same). It calculates the shipping and gives a total.

Shipping from the USA is always bl**dy expensive ....

not that particular brand, but another. The bonus is that they do everything - NAV, bluetooth, full iPod control (if you must), DVD etc etc.

But I would go through Rob at Auspack (http://members.optusnet.com.au/auspacks/technical.html ) in Melbourne, not fleabay. They are great to deal with, competitive price especially with the Aus dollar now, and warranty or repairs are handled here. Personally, I wouldn't consider buying OS with the service that Auspack provides.

No wiring kit included .....

EDIT: ....

More importantly here is the Bosal kit ... a well known manufacturer and OEM supplier to VW

http://www.catalogue.bosal.com/pages/tow_carspecnr_list.php?query_nr=2&make=VOLKSWAGEN&model=Tiguan

and BTW ... fitting an appropriate aftermarket towbar that fully integrates will not void your warranty ..... it is against the law for a manufacturer to claim that.....

EDIT 2:

and another that fully integrates with CAN ... BMW OEM supplier as welll ...

Sharkie, in your other thread with pictures of the roof racks, you indicated that you could get an ROLA RBX135 (ie the non-lockable versions). I also saw these in an old ROLA catalogue, however they no longer appear on the ROLA website.

Does anyone know if and where you can still get the ROLA RBX135 (ie non lockable ones)?

There is also another option the pro rack whispbar which I have on my Tig and I can recommend. They look great (aerodynamic) and are supposed to be the quietest ones around. They have two options and are silver with black mounts which look good on the black rails of my tig.

For those with a Tiguan towbar who may be concerned about someone pinching their hitch, I ordered a Talon hitch lock (FATL150) from the Australian Lock Company. The unit has a right angle fitting which suits the vertical mount for the tiguan.

link has a picture of what they look like.

http://www.campstore.com.au/?Nav=Pdt&product_id=2539&category_id=9&sub_category_id=295&PageID=8&wp=8

pricing for me was $80.70 inc gst and delivery.

It's handy for me as I normally leave the hitch attached to help prevent damage from others parking by 'feel'

I use these (http://www.cellphoneshop.net/uncephho.html)....pretty much fit any phone....I have a bberry, and I've got one in each car. Connects to the A/C grills (and yes you do unfortunately loose some of the fresh air directed at you from the grill, but for $4.99, you really can't complain).

I've been looking at getting a Waywell WD6050 / AVC9000-1. Rob at Auspack doesn't seem to exist any more, his website is now down and he didn't respond to my info request.

I contacted Waywell direct and managed to get them down to Chinese RMB2700 including shipping which is about $430AUD. I know they may have problems but its heaps cheaper than buying from a reseller, and I will pay with Paypal so at least there is some protection there.

They are currently testing it whether it works with the 2010 Tiguan wheel controls and hopefully I'll know whether it will work next week.

If anyone else is keen let me know, we could maybe get the price down further for multiple units.

mine doesn't. Works great. Interesting about Auspack though. There is another alternative that is much dearer (around $1000 I think), but still good value. Someone here on the forum was getting one a few months ago but haven't heard anything since. Can't remember who it was and can't remember the brand either sorry :???: Maybe do a search, or maybe someone else can remember?

Cheaper than i could find anywhere else and very short.
Looks heaps classier than the giant whip antenna and no noticeable loss of reception according to many members on here.

I screwed my antenna off last week to sort out placement of my new surf ski and haven't needed to replace it. Haven't left the Sydney metro area and reception has been clear as day.

Plus it just looks better. If you're in Sydney definitely try it out.

Delivered it was a shade under $600. They're not particularly difficult to install, and there are some guides around that help with the installation. You will also need access to a VCDS or ask your dealer to code the car for you after install.

For Genuine VW accessories/parts from UK dealer, check their online shop:
Shop4Volkswagen (http://www.shop4volkswagen.co.uk/)

Depending on what you buy, it sometimes works out much cheaper (especially small & light items) since GBP has gone down the toilet and you don't have to pay 17.5% VAT as a non-resident. :D

All the chrome (bling bling) that you can get for your Tig + access to ECS Tuning, check out this online store based in HK:
VAGLINK (http://www.vaglink.com/)

Basically get access to a lot of chrome stuff and save on shipping cost from the US to HK for ECS Tuning stuff.

I would recommend you check out the price VAGLINK charges for their Genuine Stainless Steel Sill Protectors - Tiguan and then ring your local dealer for a quote on the scuff plates. :blowtorch:

I've found and installed a basic bluetooth kit in my Tiguan now.

It integrates with the steering wheel controls so you can control volume, mute and answer/hang-up the phone from the buttons on the steering wheel.

Bear in mind that it is a basic kit and does not integrate with the MFD .... but then the price is VERY good. It is easy to install - plug and play ... with provisions below ...

You need this:

Parrot CK3000 Evo Bluetooth kit - $184

Parrot Bluetooth (http://www.thecarkitcompany.com.au/index.php/products/store/details/27/6/hands-free-car-kits-for-phones/parrot-ck3000-evo-bluetooth-car-kit?manufacturer_id=5)

and:

Connects 2 (http://www.thecarkitcompany.com.au/index.php/products/store/details/63/6/hands-free-car-kits-for-phones/connects2-vw-to-parrot-bluetooth?manufacturer_id=6)

All up $364 + shipping .... far cheaper than anything else ....

**NB** make sure you tell them to change the wiring on the VW2Connect 1st before sending it to you as the wiring is incorrect out of the box ...

Sharkie, did you install yourself?
alternatively, as I'm not very good with this stuff, is it something you would ask your local installer to put in, or VW dealer?

thanks

Yes, did it myself, its very easy to do, just plug and play. I'll pull it apart again this weekend and take some pictures. For only about $380 including shipping its far cheaper than anything else out there.

If anybody is interested there is an air compressor on sale for $99 at Repco until 17/10/10

http://www.vwwatercooled.com.au/forums/images/imported/2010/10/IMAG0466-1.jpg

It appears to be the same as Projecta twin pump which I'm using in my Mobile Workshop Van for almost 6 months now. Topping up 12-16 tyres per day. It is quieter than my Blue Tongue twin pump and inflate as quickly as Blue Tongue. It is completely sealed unit and could be installed permanently under the car. Thats why I will use it in our Touareg. I believe there could be space somewhere under the Tiguan floor as well.

I turned my Tig into the ultimate shopping trolley...

http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/4971/img0028xf.jpg

But before you say 'boy, that's ugly', it's not up there permanently, it's a purpose-built luggage rack from Rhino. Will only be attached to the racks for camping trips which i plan on embracing a fair bit in the coming months :-D. I have one of those oztent RV's (erects in under a minute) & it just doesn't fit length-wise in the back with the seats down...
Hoping to give it a try-out this weekend. Photos to come!

So... Everyone likes to add a few personal touches to their ride! Some are more extreme & adventurous than others, but it's nice to have something a little bit different to the heard.

Just a few photo's of mine evolving, more to come!

Here we go: have had this hanging from the rear-view mirror of a '72 merc 250, a '74 Galant, a '79 subaru, a '93 hilux, & now a '10 Tiggy! The hook's wearing thin!

Still lovin' the VMR 713 19x8.5, more & more!
http://img607.imageshack.us/img607/918/img0534p.jpg

Finally got these Sparco pedals on!
http://img853.imageshack.us/img853/3623/img0543uy.jpg

Also got one of these blingy dipstick grips from Gruvenparts... HOT! Who would have thought that? :D
http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/8440/img0536z.jpg

Still got a few ideas, shall update as necessary! :-)

Dipstick grip looks pretty funky!
Wheels I am not so sure on, i think the matte black (?) looks good on most wheels but against white it needs to be gloss black imho.
Still a great design and the size is spot on :)

I'm considering a complete 'de-badge'...
Would some heat (hairdryer, HOT water, etc) be enough to melt the glue or are the OE badges fixed more seriously?

I used fishing line to "saw" left and right behind the badge while pulling downwards from the top of the badges.
After that i ended up trying to peel the glue off, then hit it with some boiling water and dishwashing liquid.

Finally i used tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil to clear up any last bit of sticky residue and gave the boot a wash.

There is probably nothing better than fishing line, but for removing the glue residue, I'm using WURTH brake cleaner, but any brand brake cleaner that leaves no residue will do the job, however testing it first on non visible surface is highly recommended.

Speaking of non-performance accessories, this one's a rare find:

I would snap this up in a heartbeat (if only it could allow me to bid more than $69). Seriously an insult to all Tig owners @ that liquidation price.

As others have mentioned thin fishing line works wonders, just go slow.

There will be glue residue left over however.

A hair-dryer will get this nice and sticky and you can carefully pick it off with your fingers, takes time though. A small amount of thinners or similar on a rag will practically melt the glue away but be super careful not to get any on the plastics. Alternatively look for something called a 'caramel wheel' in an automotive shop or hardware store, panel shops use these to remove glue from body-kits etc, easy to use.

I have been looking at installing a proper sat nav system into the car... Called my local VW dealer yesterday and talked to the parts department but they weren't that helpful or friendly... Anyone have any other ideas of places in Melbourne who would install a good quality system into my Tigi?

I would get unit myself, it's very easy DIY or you could take it to your local independent VW specialist (plenty of them in the forum). The dealers probably get anoyed by people getting them cheap of the ebay. :)

Make sure they are the same style as your current ones (halogen - halogen or xenon - xenon)
Also make sure they have level adjusters on them so you can adjust the beam throw.

Try to get them plug and play without fault codes if you can.

Will be interested to see how these go.

With the sticky/foam badge glue remover, I used the orange power stuff. Worked a treat.

Is there a way to convert halogen to Bi-Xenons? Does anyone know where to get a set or who can install Bi-Xenons into a halogen?

Hi Mate.
The legal method of doing this will set you back around twice what it would have cost to order them on the car.

You can go for a cheap alternative where you use uprated halogen bulbs such as the Osram Rallye bulbs.

Hi team_v!

I see a lot of your posts in this forum so it makes me feel looked after having read ur reply! Cheers for that!!

Why is it so expensive to do convert it 'legally'? What do u mean by 'legal'? I'm always impressed by how much information u n many regulars here have abt cars! Someone I met recently told me that it is not a simple plug n play because of the auto-leveling motors in the Bi-Xenons.. Change of Vagcom codes etc... :S

Where do I look for lowering spring posts? I am a new Dubber. Getting my first VW soon. Put a deposit for a Candy White Tig 2011!!! Prefer the look of the prev model after seeing the new face lifted model - no offense to anyone who got the new 2012 model at all!! Just a personal preference. :P thinking of changing wheels n lowering it.

Wondering how much ride comfort is sacrificed between a 19" vs a 20" wheel w the lowering suspension. I have read that H&Rs are a popular brand in this forum for Tigs. However I have called someone in Singapore abt H&R lowering springs, n he said a number of his customers had returned to him w the H&R springs n said that ur ride comfort was sacrificed way too much that it became very uncomfortable - not jus from Audi S4 n S5 owners but also from Q5 owners.

To fit Bi-xenon's legally you need to have the self levelling system and headlight washers installed as well.
So you would be up for around 1k for the lights, plus extra for all the other bits.
Then you need to get an auto electirician to build a new wiring harness for the Bi-xenon's since the halogen lights use differente wiring.
Then you have to get the car coded via vagcom to recognise the new lights.

For springs you can't really beat ecstuning with the current exchange rate.
I would say that 19's would be the limit of comfort for me.
I noticed the change going from the stock 16's where a lot of the bumps are transferred through to the cabin.

Sharkie and Clip had H&R springs in their Tig's and had some interesting views on them.
I thikn Sharkie actually had his up for sale as well?

Yeah, I ended up with Clip's springs. I'm really happy with them and won't go back to stocks - in fact the family is happy with them! My wife suffers from car sickness and especially dislikes soft plushy suspension (i.e. Falcons and Commodores etc) so the slightly rougher ride helps out. I find that the H&R springs are a good compromise between handling and comfort, although I am thinking of getting an anti-lift kit att some stage...

In terms of lowering you get between 35mm and 40 mm front and rear, although my nudge bar seemed to drag the nose down an extra 5mm :)

EDIT: I also drive a lot on country (dirt and crappy pot-hole ridden stuff) as well as city roads and am happy to report that they are great all round!
