I just bought a 2008 RS diesel wagon with DSG. The car is currently ACT registered but I live in NSW so I need to re-register it. In NSW, the registation fees are calculated using the tare weight and I was wondering if anyone who has a similar car registered in NSW can tell me what their registration papers say the tare weight is.

The ACT registration papers say "1480 kg" but the RS brochure says "tare mass 1510". There is no number on the compliance plate.

I'm asking because the NSW fees are 1155kg to 1504kg - $278 and 1505kg to 2504kg - $396. Obviously, I don't want to have to pay an $118 extra every year because my car is a mere 6 kg overweight.

If I'm looking at the higher fee every year in NSW, I would consider registering the car in QLD (under my wife's name) where the registration fees are based on the number of cylinders.

Thanks.

I too am interested in this, I am purchasing my car in NSW but need to register in the ACT. It is useful to know that the Tare on your RS TDi wagon is 1480 as I am getting the same but manual not DSG.

my v6 4motion is 1468kg, don't think a vRS would be that much heavier

If doing an interstate blueslip, I believe the inspector will go from the ACT rego documents, or the RTA spec sheet, not from a weighbridge ticket.

I have just registered (in NSW) an 09 model Face Lift Octavia RS 2.0 TDI with DSG with a tow bar fitted at 1540kg Tare according to the rego papers

My 2008 vRS 2.0 TFSI (petrol) has 1540Kg on the ACT rego papers. I guess all the safety and luxury geegaws that vRS' have just add to the weight.

It might be worth putting your car on a weighbridge just to see what it actually weighs. If it is close come back again when the fuel tank is nearly empty and take out the spare wheel and whatever else is easily removed.

Common sense says that if your car weighs (say) 1,501kg and you have an accurate weighbridge certificate to prove it then you would have a good case to argue you should be in that (cheaper) rego category, regardless of what the manufacturer specs/brochures say (and lets face it, they aren't always spot on).

OK, I think that I'll try to convince the inspector and/or the RTA by showing them the 1480 kg listed on the ACT rego papers. But I just noticed that the car is mistakenly listed as a petrol on them. I might have to try to cover that bit of information with my thumb. ;-)

Got my rego renewal in VIC yesterday, has 1500 on it for petrol sedan VRS, I think you might well be in the next category of weight for sure.
