Well fellow Golfers..

Its been an interesting few weeks with the VR6.

Broken clutch pedal, wondering about engine sipping oil, front spoiler lip going missing, brake reservoir lid issues and front brake pad confusion (turns out my car is a November '06 build meaning Teves brake system)...

I'm just wondering what fuel economy are you VR6 people getting?

I'm getting 11.2L per 100kms on average.

That's including all sorts of city driving as well as occasional bouts in the country.

Also - what tyre pressures are you using?

I'm using 42psi in front and 40psi in rear tyres (tyres are 205's on standard BBS rims).

Cheers, happy Straya day.
Gman.

well that fuel economy sounds pretty good, mine has been 11.5L/100km over the last 2360km, but i do have a heavy right foot...

As for tire pressures, i am running 17" wheels with a 215/40/R17 tire.....

wow, thats great:) 11.2/100, if I remember correctly I used to get about 14-15l/100 but I used to thrash it:D and I had exhaust with airfilter which didnt help economy.

just re-checked the car computer thing
i'm getting 11.5L per 100km (over the last 600kms) not 11.2 as i thought :)

what tyre pressures do you guys run?

Gman.

aren't those pressures a little high? i would have thought 34psi is about what you need?

as for the economy 11.2 is pretty good around town

Far out you guys go through some fuel. My last 5000ks have used 9l/100km. The most i've EVER seen my VR get to (besides the first 10mins of driving after turning it on) is 12l/100km and that was flogging the piss out of it up Mt Hotham...

Tire pressure wise i normally set my rears a bit softer than my fronts. Normally 35 on rears and 37-38 on front. Setting the pressure to high on VRs makes them skate all round the shop.

Thats a pretty good fuel economy there you wouldn't happen to be doing Highway driving by any chance would you and alot of it, by the sounds of it.

Those are insane numbers! I find fuel usage varies in normal driving more in the VR than any car I have owned. When I drive to work (5km, never over 50km/h) I get around 18L/100km (I usually bike to work). When I drive out to visit my parents (Brunswick to Kilmore, 50 km, 50/50 city/country) I get around 10.0; on a trip Melb-Geel-Lorne via inland-GOR home where I flogged it as hard and as much as I could I got 11.5; if I reset the MAF while on the highway I get 7.8-8.5. I find usage to be VERY dependant on the kind of driving I'm doing.

As for tyre pressure, I run 33 on the back and 36 on the front.

Yes - the VR6 fuel usage does seem very dependent on driving style.

I'm doing alot of city driving.

For some reason I thought the recommended pressures on the VR6 were 40psi on the front and 38 on the rear.

Ever since I took a long drive just before the Xmas hols I've been keeping them at 42front/40rear. Think I'll let them down somewhat and see if its smoother and with better grip.

Most I ever got out of a tank of fuel from the VR was 660 or so .
I use to run 34 psi front and rear

That was definately highway driving ;) I would love to get that kind of numbers!

Im getting 7.8 - 8.2 on highway driving (melb to philip island) and 9.8-10.4 for a long term average (total of 1000-1500kms or 4 tanks of fuel)

My tyres are at 38psi all round, and this appears to be fine for hard corners i subject the golf to.

i wish i could get such good economy from my vr6!

turns out that my fuel economy over the last 2000kms has been 12L per 100kms

that's city driving with air con on

i've used an injector cleaning additive.. i've kept my eye on the tyre pressures..

what is the trick for getting better fuel economy?! (short of driving like a grandmother)

drive like a corpse ;) lol

nah, city driving will always be high cuz your not moving and the engine is using fuel so itd just continue t climb whilst standing! So i dont think its a very good gauge too work on if your looking at consumption figures . . . do some non-stop driving hard out and it prob be the same as stop go city driving . . . just my thaughts :)

I average mid 10z per 100kz, n i drive it harder than i do soft . . . thats not a great deal of city driving . . .

Hey guyz, just a quick note to back up my last post . . . Today I pushed my car hard, nuthin unda 3500rpm for half a tank through mt glorious and nebo and my avg fuel was 10.8 . . . so anything over is perhaps over fueling or a lot of stop starting . . . .
