Hi,
I actually have somebody interested in buying my Polo Gti from me. I have been looking around for some time, predominately at an SS commodore.
I took one for a burn yesterday SS, 6spd manual, 250kw, completely stock..
Ive owned one before but I forgot how it was stock as it was modified. They can be a little lazy, but once after about 4000rpm they go pretty hard.
To be honest I dont think it would go better than the Polo Gti to about 100km/h. The little VW really scoots down low and has a stronger midrange than the SS.

So what are you asking?
What to get for a new car?
What do you want out of a car and what will it be used for?

I'd say get an Audi S5, TTS or R8, but then I don't really know what you are asking to compare against.
The SS Commodore is a poor mans HSV, go all the way and get a W427 (375kW, 640nm) or get an Audi.

Nope.
Pony up a few more dollars and get an FG XR6T. There's was a very nice ute on carsales for 32k the other day.
I forget what they changed from the BF, but I think maybe intake, intercooler. Not sure if the turbo has changed?

Can i hijack the thread then?
I'm thinking about swaping my polo for a 2000 TT Quattro.
Convince me which way to go
EDIT: This whole thread should probably be moved to general no?

Just pick up an SS / XR8 / XR6T from auction for around 15k, and spend the difference from a near another VW or an audi in making a 9 second bike killer...

P.S. this should prob. get moved to general auto discussion.

Now now boys ...... at least encourage him to stay in the family.....
Here is a Golf with everything you could possibly want already done ... http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au/newforum/upload/showthread.php?t=33717
It will have 99% of everything out there on the roads near you for breakfast, lunch & dinner ... especially around the track .....
and BTW unless you drive a Veyron don't take on a superbike ..... 10s qrtrs day in and out whereas a heavily modded s***tbox will only do it once or twice before blowing up in smoke

It'd be nice to think that, but its got alot more to do with the fact that a car that fast would be lucky to get 150k's out a tank more than anything else. I know a few people with proper quick cars and they get driven often, fairly reliably, esp if you get something domestic which has been done to death...

I'm thinking about swaping my polo for a 2000 TT Quattro.
You can pick one up pretty cheap, insurance is deadly.
I was pretty underwhelmed by friends TTs at the recent Wakefield park visit. It was fast, but not much faster than the Polo. If you are expecting a fair bit more out of it, it needs a little work (or could get one thats been worked).
I like the old shape, interior is lovely.

why a 2000 TT quattro? dont they have the same motor as ours..
A Polo Gti would have less km on it and condition overall better. If someone tried to swap me a TT for my GTi, Id laugh at them.
The only reason Im looking to sell GTi and jump in a SS or XR6T etc is the size.. But in Stock trim, Im underwelmed by the performance they offer, a credit to the performance of the Polo Gti. Seriously.

why a 2000 cos they are dirt cheap and AWD, same engine different internals and bigger turbo than the polo, heaps more parts readily avalible than the polo can fit 10 inch wide wheels without issue, and you can get bigger numbers out of the TT without having to worry about traction issues.
keeping the polo means newer car, less ks

I'm going to shut this one down as it is going to go the same way as the rest...Badly. Good luck buying the SS, I hope you get the fix you need out of it, but good luck seeing 7.1L/100 over a 2400km trip.
