I just got few comprehensive insurance quotes :-

Youi - $495
NRMA - $989

It's a massive difference, the only worry (according to Youi's PDS) is I can not choose my own repairer. Are anyone here insured with Youi ? did you have any issue with them ?

They are very eager to get your money.

I did a quote with them for my seldom used Jackaroo, started at a nice sounding $330, but by the time I put back the things that were needed (such as another driver being covered, essential when off-roading) it was back to within a few dollars of my normal AAMI premium of $500ish.

I wonder if they are just as eager to pay out, or whether they will nit-pick for the tiniest loophole to avoid a claim.

I decided not to find out and went with AAMI again.

Edit: Their "Market Value" was also $4000 LESS than AAMI for a total loss situation.

Do you know any real case as such, Gerhard ? otherwise how do you know what's the market value without a real claim was involved.

You know the market value because you ask them the question "what is the market value according to Youi?" They will tell you what it is, but of course if when you claim it is evident your car is a heap of crap, it will have a lesser value than a car of "normal" condition for age.

They won't insure me. Car is too awesome.
Love how they go on about how they ask questions and find out how you use your car, I barely got into it before they said no (too many improvements).
It seems to me that who they are really catering for and looking to get as customers is the city office worker. Ie. Car is only driven to the train station and is only used on weekends and to go to the shops.
Oh well much there are much better and more specialised insurers out there.
Cheers,
Trent

It's a 'go' for me.

Youi agreed value $10000, premium $495.
AAMI only insure for $6600 for $599.00 if I want agreed value.

I know it may be fun when I need claim but let's see. For up front money it's clear who'll get business.

I've been recently doing the insurance quoting rounds for a V5 Bora, and Youi came up to be one of the more expensive companies, at close to $1450. Post code is Bathurst, record is good and I drive 8mins to work, car is garaged and no claims, though im 27 years old.

Youi called me today to follow up and I told them my story, and the only reason given for the higher price was that I was a single male

AAMI came up cheap at around $920, just cars not far behind at $950, BINGLE was $790.00 with agreed value of $13400, and the cheapest of the lot was ALLIANZ in the low $700.00 mark. Suncorp was around the $3k mark lol

I used to be with shannons but my "dangerous driving" (read speeding) charge meant I had to go elsewhere. Been with SGIC and they are great when it comes to sorting claims asap.

My mate just insured his 5 series after I recommended them and they also were cheapest quote he had. The only downside is I'm not sure you get to choose repairer.

i'm currently with Shannons for the 06 polo gti - $502.00 and agreed for $20k which was the amount of paid for it. Never had to put a claim in so i don't know how they are on coughing up the moula.

They also insured my Maxi Caddy , Mazda 6 and 94 harley so i get a good discount.

I have 3rd party as I really could not care how hard they are to deal with. They were so cheap it was fantastic. You also find that they are much more specific with details, so you may be careful if you use incorrect info and then get caught not using it how they think you use it.

Virgin are also in the market now - http://virginmoney.com.au/car-insurance/

When my renewal was due I got a few online quotes. My AAMI renewal was cheaper than all except the AAMI online quote??? Curious, I called them to find out why?

Their answer - the online quotes are cheaper because they are there to get new business and we'll get our money back over the next couple of years.

On the whole, I'd say insurance companies are B*******. The sort of business you want shares in but not to be a customer

They won't insure me! I'm a drunkard who got booked for refusing a drink driving test, when I was moving my car 2 feet (& Obviously drunk). Can't wait till my 3 years is over, and I don't have to tell insurers this detail..!! So embarrassing! :emo_baghead:

After a pricing debarkle with NRMA, I had a look at Shannons(wouldn't insure me as I have a car port, and not a garage), then did the AAMI online quote. I listed all of my mods (that I could), including the chip, and that I have had an at fault accident in the last 12 months, and it came back with just over $600.

With options, my final payment was $688, I then rang them up and listed my other mods at no extra cost to my premium, so I'm not complaining about that.

hmm speaking of which ill be ringing aami tomorrow to inform them of my "goodies" i have installed since taking out the insurance. should be interesting how much it goes up. might even give shannons a call though if they have problems insuring people who dont have a garage then i guess im stuck.

I'm with Shannons for all my cars and now my greenslips too. They were cheap and better than my previous insurer so it was a no brainer, although I really should double check these things again this year (since I try to do it every year to make sure I'm getting best value).

Reality is my postcard screws me most of all, both cars are $800 ish for 30 year old drivers with good history, it's all about the post code unfortunately.

When I was in the purchase stage of my MKIV R32, I called Shannon's and was told that I don't qualify as an enthusiast. Went with Just Car, $1100 with rating one. Not bad.

Question - if you go for agreed, what level do you set it at ? The cost of the car at the time you bought it, or something a bit less which is more reasonable ?

Ring Shannons Eric.

Insure your classic car at agreed value and get cheap prices on your daily, including windscreen cover, agreed value and choice of repairer.

And its CHEAP!!!!

Couldn't agree more!!!

My vehicles...

1970 HG Holden Premier 308 (agreed value: $24,000) including all modifications
2008 (MY09) Volkswagen Passat .:R36 (agreed value: $73,000) including all modifications
2008 Suzuki B-King (agreed value: $18,000) including all modifications

...all with Shannons. Total anual premium = $1700.00 for full comprehensive with maximum no claim bonus for life, my choice of repairer, keep the wreck (in the event of a write off), free windscreen for each car (1 per year).

For car enthusiasts, there is no better option than Shannons.

I just did an online quote with them and they wont even insure my car! Apperently because of the mods. Its lowered and it has a CAI, and a DVD player. RAC is fine with all this

I would never recommend anyone to use youi for insurance. They have an extreme amount of fine print and anything they can find within that fine print they will use not to pay your claim. They were forced by FIO to pay mine. BEWARE!!!!

I would not recommend AAMI either. Dodgy repairers, no choice, and on a recent claim with my wife we had to go through the ombudsman to get her excess back as they said she was at fault, even though the police found the other party at fault!

Well I think Shannons is the winner in this thread.
They do our stock daily driver, the GTI, 770 Charger, heavily modded S3 RX7 and our house!

I'd never go with anyone that doesn't give;
1. First option to buy the wreck
2. Choice of repairer
3. Agreed value
4. House cover that covers 10K for car parts/tools etc from the garage.

Feedback? They wouldn't insure my last Jetta (TDI) because it had been lowered by 30mm.

Assuming youi car insurance is anything like their home insurance then don't go near them they will use every little clause to try and ger out of your claim and even lie about what happened. We are currently in the process of fighting a disputed claim and will likely go the the ombudsman and or vcat. They will also try and get you in cheap then up your premium and excess. I'd rate Allianz pretty highly even though they are expensive.

emtee - what happened in your case or pm me

I have a 2009 Gt golf Diesel, and just received my renewal and was pleasantly surprised ,The amount its insured for hasn't changed that much from last year $33,400 and last year i paid the same premium $882 ,so I'm happy and i only pay $400 excess as I'm the only driver ,

Not sure if you guys realise this thread is pretty old...

I had a positive experience with NRMA though with my old car, they pretty much paid out no questions asked when I wrote off my old car, even though I hadn't listed a single modification and the list of things on it that were illegal would have filled pages... They wouldn't let me buy the wreck back though or even offer any sort of help in that regard, wouldn't even tell me which auction company it was going through. I'm sure if they'd actually inspected the car they wouldn't have paid so I was quite lucky in that regard, if it was a more expensive car they may have been much more thorough, as my car was worth relatively little. Still, I'd probably go with them again.

Shannons is my choice my bug, laser, bora and house is with them.
i had AAMI before and going to Shannons saved me $90 a month.
With AAMI when your car gets repaired they use 2nd hand parts and they only pay minimum for the paint meaning they wont spray that door etc to blend your colour.

And Allianz are crap when i put 18s on my hiace i rang them up to notify it had rims they cancelled my insurance and wouldnt refund my left over amount which was 9 months worth so they can get f%$#!?

try Shannons their the best out there.
good luck

I found youi to be one of the most expensive, even after answering a zillion questions about how you use your car, how it's kept etc etc ETC (<4000km and LUG in my case)

ended up going with NRMA who were not only cheap but covered mods as long as you kept receipts.

I'm with youi.
Mods are covered by insurance and it works out to be $200 cheaper than any of the other ones who would insure me.

RACQ/NRMA/Suncorp wouldn't touch me becaue i had an upgraded air intake, even though they were okay with the ecu upgrade.

I haven't read the whole thread, but i'm with Youi... this is the second year.
When I changed to them I rang about 8 companies and checked the fine details. Couldn't fault Youi's offering. Price did rise a bit between years 1 & 2, but so had all insurers.

I saved around 180 by going to Youi. Strangely, they were a lot dearer on my wife's XR5, which Suncorp are cheapest for.
