Nice purchase. How did you hear about it?

That rear wiper has had a hard life by the looks too. Those wheels are shocking although both easily fixed. Had any interest in the bling machine?

Looks like my jetta from the front! Ive got a Mk2 radiator with a small leak, or use a later style Mk1 one with the expansion bottle.

How many Golfs do you need bro? Where did this one come from, its not the one at the show is it? If so you need a new back window winder too!

Damn Straight Steve.

Thats why my Jetta needs a good home and why I havent scrapped this big tail light 1983 Mk1 in the Garage. I`d love someone to want a straight shell though.

Its the duty of us as watercoolers to make sure the rare parts dont go to the crusher.

still got a little work to go on the arches but they are working well. does anyone know of a paint to retexture the arches????

ausgolfer
01-05-2006, 09:46 AM
That is fantastic, I wanted to do the exact same thing to my GTi arches but had the same problem you have now of how to get them back to a textured finish, as I'm not really a fan of color coded arches, especially on a white car.
As a suggestion to get the texture onto the arches you could try some of that sound deadening spray. I'd obviously trial it on a bit of old wood or something, it usualy comes out fairly unevenly though. Or maybe if you had some gloss black in a can and a fine sponge to dab a texture into it (would take quite a few coats and lots of dabbing)??? I think last time I was in Bunnings I noticed you can get speckled type paints in a can but again you'd want to trial it.
Probably stupid ideas but brainstorming is what you need to get the ball rolling.

PS. Does anyone know where I can get Simmons wider lips and bolts for that matter?

Oneofthegreats
01-05-2006, 12:15 PM
Try The Mag Wheel Centre
http://www.magwheelcentre.com.au/

This is where my Dad & brother always go for BBS stuff & wheel repairs.
The also build wheels in house (Simmons etc.) so I imagine that they will be able to help with wider rim lips & bolts.

alex g
01-05-2006, 03:57 PM
or talk to wal or paul at neil wheels they have heaps of fat lips for simmons in stock 96421002

ausgolfer
01-05-2006, 04:46 PM
I just asked the guys at the mag wheel centre and they're $198 per rim and $3.20 a bolt. Sounds like an exercise I can't afford at the moment. Just after paying for $900 worth of tyres which will only go on half an inch wider rims I might have to wait for the next lot of tyres before going a few inches deep dish.

Anyway back on track can't wait to see pictures of this thing back together, painted, with tyres.

01-05-2006, 06:26 PM
If you go the dabbing techinque suggested by ausgolfer, I would suggest using a piece of sponge, which you can get from art supply stores.

there is some stuff called spray putty - as i understand it - used for filling that sort of texture - was going to try it on my vr6 arches but never got around to doing it. still have the can - think i got it from kmart but sure any other auto shop will have it

My mate skinny is a panel beater and I was talking to him about this very same issue the other day as sometime in the near future I am guna respray the mk1, but want to keep the textured effect on the arches but still paint them black, anyways he said if you go to a body shop and ask them they can use a product that gives a result your after, he warns tho that it will be hard to emulate the exact texture but it is pretty close. He does resto's on old cars so uses the product occasionally. Its simply called bumper paint or the like and produces a mottled type of effect in the paint. They'lll know what your'e on about... Alternetavely you could use an underbody deadener or chip guard type of spray, might not look right tho... Bit long winded but hope it helps :P
