View Full Version : I'm baffled by the GVG ratings

On the Green Vehicle Guide (http://www.greenvehicleguide.gov.au/GVGPublicUI/SearchResultsWebForm.aspx?CurrentTask=894db821-c593-4c9a-b8c4-6d94bc548cdf) I did a search for the current Golfs. It turns out the 118TSI Comfortline Manual rates 8th out of all cars sold in Australia!

But upon closer inspection I noted the CO2 readings don't really relate to anything. For example, the 118TSI manual's fuel consumption is 7.7/5.3 Urban/Extra-Urban, and 6.2 combined, with CO2 of 150g/km.
For the 118TSI auto, it is 8.3/5.3, 6.5 combined (higher than the manual), with CO2 144g/km (lower than the manual). How does that figure??
And then the manual is a full point above the auto on the Air Pollution rating.

Is it that the manual, on average, burns the fuel better than the auto, thus increasing the level of CO2 and decreasing the level of CO? So even though the manual uses less fuel, it has more effect on global warming, but is better for the environment... :stupid:
