Group Buy - Water Tanks
Just putting this out to you guys and gals.
Personally I'm sick of washing my car at public car washes (cant use my own shampoo,wax, have to rush, etc etc).
I'm willing to do all the running around,research and planning to source the best possible deal on say a 5000lt tank + pump + fittings and installation.
Now I'm wanting to hear from members that are serious and willing to get involved in this group buy. This should include members that are located within Melbourne and surrounding suburbs, and anyone outside or in country areas should be prepared to pay extra for delivery and install.
Let me know what you guys think and if I get a positive response and a decent number of applicants, then I'll start the process. :toast:

If you want something smaller, look for a water container called an IBC - roughly 1m x 1m x 1m, holds ~1000L, you can pick them up 2nd hand for anything from $100 on eBay.
I got my food grade one (as I store salt water in it for my marine fishtank) for $180 (paid more for the guarantee that it was safe).
They have a standard outlet on them (at the bottom of one face) that you can attach a hose and/or pump to), and a ~20cm opening on top (with a screwcap) for filling.

Good to know Manaz, but 1000L wont cut it. I've got two cars that I need to keep clean, plus I would also like to plumb the tank to the toilets. With a couple of days of good rainfall, a 5000L would fill right up.

Yeah, 1000L isn't a lot of water - with a booster pump and a pressure cleaner, it'd cope with car cleaning as long as it got regular top-ups.
I'm considering grabbing another IBC to fill from the waste water from my reverse osmosis water filter (it outputs 4 times as much waste as it does good water) - there's nothing wrong with the waste for watering the garden or washing a car, but it's no good for maintaining a healthy fish tank :)

Im mostly interested in the water capture. Not too fussed about installation. I can organise that myself. Not overly worried about it being plumbed in either. I just need the tank and a spare day :)

we'll see what the general consensus is and maybe an option would be just to purchase and deliver the tanks and each individual can organize install.

I'm basing this group buy on a 5000lt slimline + pump + delivery. The install will be up to the individual. No costings yet as I wont start doing any work on this until I have some definite numbers in order to negotiate the best price.
At this stage, I'm down for two tanks and maybe more (will talk to some friends of mine), and with Tim that makes three.
any other members interested in this buy???
A bit of an update guys.
Started working on this today and have my first round of quotations.
Initially I was keen to go for a single 5000lt tank, however after more research and speaking to a lot of people, I discovered this is not the best idea for the following reasons;
1. A one piece 5000lt slimline tank requires an in-ground concrete slab. This will add to extra expenses and more work to all concerned.
2. A one piece 5000lt slimline tank, can and could warp over time adding to instability and degradation. This is likely with both poly and steel.
3. A one piece 5000lt slimline is more expensive than say two 2500lt slimlines.
So the best I came up with so far is, 3 x 1670lt interconnected tanks which have the same footprint as a one piece 5000lt and can be supported with concrete pavers.
Package includes: 3 x 1670lt tanks interconnected with tap (24 colours to choose from), 1 x 600W ,50 litre per min pump, 1 x pump cover, special filter (much better and finer than standard leaf catcher), all tank fittings to downpipe, and local metro delivery.
Total:$1865.00
Now, I've spent a good two/three hours on this and spoke to a lot of people and sense that I wont find a better deal out there. That doesn't mean that I wont stop trying.

im gonna have to bail on this one. I just did a job for a client today and by chance they sell water tanks. My services are worth a 2100L tank so im probly going to go down that path sorry.

Theyre a hardware store. So they dont really stock a lot. The 2100L unit is a round tank. about my height 175cm maybe 1.5m in diameter (didnt measure it, thats just a guess). I think the standard price is normally $599. They had pumps there for $350 but not sure of the quality.
