Hey guys,
Bit of a noob question but i want euro plates for my car and was wondering if its legal to have german plates made up like i used to in the uk, or do i have to pay rta's high prices and buy theirs.

Any info much appreciated
Cheers
Alex

I can tell you from first person experience that the NSW Police will issue you 3 things on the spot if you have non RTA plates on the car - 3 points, $350 and remove your plates (so you have to be towed). Luckily at the time, the car I was in was a Tasmanian registered car where the law does allow non govt issues plates that comply with some laws, so I did not get the fine/demerit/tow - but the experience says it is not worth the chance.

the 300 bucks for europlates from the RTA are starting to look like a good deal

all plates must be issued by the RTA.

Hmm...
Cheers guys, answered exactly what i was looking for.
Mikinoz, that was lucky haha. Wouldnt want to go through all that hassle just for having non RTA plates! its a joke. VeeDubs, I think there $400 now.

Looks like ill be saving for some RTA plates or maybe resist temptation.

Thanks again
Alex

The annual fee is the biggest rip off! They should learn a lesson from PPQ..

I ordered a personalised (picked my own letter/number) euro plates last week. all up for the first year it will be $300 (inc $100 annually). takes 3 approx weeks to get it. Also if you don't want to drill new holes on your car, email Dubaddiction for the euro holders :)

no initial purchase fee in S.A. but $150 a year, and no choice.
