Hey All,

got my ride back today! Its all lowered on Ksport. Ride is so hard, i believe the springs are set at 500-600ish pounds. Handles like a dream. When we put it on the floor off the lifts, it was wayy to low, and it snapped my lip, you can see in the first pic. so we had to raise it a bit haha. Then i went out of the driveway, and saw my lip sitting on the ground in a perfect U shape...:duh:

Enjoy! (So far i recommend Ksports if ur willing to spend that much)

On a MK3, HotTuning coilovers will go pretty bloody low aswell, if not lower!

Do u mind me asking a price? How do u think it handles, is it comfortable? harsh? bouncy? good? I looked into importing ksports from the US but their price is very close to the good coilovers like koni, b&g, H&R's.

It handles amazing. For pure handling pleasure i'd probably set it up higher a little. The way ive had them set its very harsh. u feel every bump in the road. however its constant control. an amazing drive. are you coming to that charity thing on sunday down to the gong? u can have a ride then. i believe its 1800 for parts and a few hungy to install. i had other steering and such work done to my car so i dont know how much exactly it was for just the ksports.

i would buy them again.

one of the 2sus guys own Heasmans.. they cost $1500 for IS200's.. so a lil more maybe for euro cars

This is awkward. I'm sitting next to the owners son. I'm good mates with him. He says: "ahhh no they dont. one of the 2sus guys works for heasmans, he does not own it. thats why they get alot of 2sus cars in there."

Good to hear another positive comment about KSport coilovers... I know Manaz just fit a set to his Bora and he says they are good for street setup.

Just wondering, I have a set of Original Bora 16's if you wanna go OEM+1 :)

audi phat 5's. there's a bloke in VIC selling a set. pretty rare in OZ. need adaptors though, but the offset of the wheel is quite high, so it'd work.

you have no idea how bouncy it is! its insane. Its a really uncomfortable ride tbh, but i like a real rough ride! :brutal:

Ill show u guys at a meet haha.

i pulled into KFC today and my euro lip shattered.

i actually mean shattered. ill get some pics tomorrow, there are lots of pieces of it i didnt pick up, and bits that were zip tied to the car dragging on the ground on the way home. quite irritating. Best place to buy a new euro lip?

Im slightly hesitant to go to 16s. they look so sexy. but im scrubbin on the black wheel arch guards when i brake turn and hit bumps all in the same motion. The fat 5s do look v nice tho. what spacer is needed?

i do like urs mickey. who made them?

Mrk_Mickey
22-07-2009, 03:03 PM
Technically, if you go from your stock tyre size (205/50/15) to a 16 inch size in the same diameter but a smaller profile (205/45/16) you stay within 3mm of overall rolling diameter. That means that the wheels with the tyres on will be 3mm different in diameter...

Nothing worth losing sleep over if you ask me! It's only the width and offset of the wheels themselves that you need to worry about, because I can guarantee you these wheels I've got are identical to my stockies, and both don't rub.

ohh thanks for the help mickey, i didnt think about that. Im looking at something maybe with lots of spokes in black and a chrome lip in 16s? or something similar to the stockies in 16 s?

uhm for a golf from heasman steering it would cost 1800 parts and a few hundred for labour.

they are quite pricey but are the most amazing coilovers i've ever driven. The only ones that handle better are the bilstein coilovers in my opinion.

No helper springs? Thats probly why they go lower than most coilovers. Take the helper springs out and you drop another 3". Have a go in my mk1 and you wont complain about the harsh rid anymore haha.

Thouse shizzy chinese chin spoilers always shatter. I had one half german and one half chinese and the chinese one always smashed.

BTW bro, if you aint rubbin you aint dubin. Slam that shiz and forget about the rest.

what influenced your k-sport decision? 2g buys you a lot of coilover for the money. like weitecs, or bilsteins... not that it isn't entirely your choice what you do with it. :)

btw, you could tuck the front waaay more.. ;) i haven't seen a lower rear end in aus though. :o

uhm i looked into the bilsteins, but found that they were a bit more once installed. like 3g.

i read up on ksports and not many have them in AUS on their golfs, but the US guys seem pretty happy with them (as am i). They handle like a dream, even when low. and who could resist the fluro orange :)

Yeah ive been looking into the front. the rear used to be an inch lower, however it would scrub so hard without people in the back that the top of the wheel arches have paint missing. so i thought i might put it up a bit.

my main concern with the front is scrubbing when turning. ill keep u posted with the front end :P

The Ksports have an adjustable shock body don't they? I can't seem to find a pic but essentially, the strut can be split into two parts, the lower mount brackets and the threaded column. Basically you can have an insanely low ride, yet still have the suspension travel (adjusting the lower mount brackets to sit higher on the threads).

http://www.wrxevolution.com/store/catalog/kspar1.jpg

You can see the locking collar just above the lower mount brackets in this pic.

but mine dont have that locking collar...weird.

some semi bad news.

I got a look under the car today, as it was on a hoist and it was noted that my drive shaft hits the chassis when i hit bumps which isn't the best. Here are some pics. As it stands its only rubbing paint off my 2 month old driveshaft... hopefully it doesn't get worse.

a skit plate will make me raise up the car... which means that there's no point in putting it on i might as well just raise the car up :)

:eek:why not just sit them higher, a skidplate wont solve the driveshafts from lathing

what i've done is i've adjusted the travel, and suspension hardness. just when i thought it couldn't get any rougher. hopefully this stops it from going to high up when i hit a bump.

Have a look at vortex there are plenty of people that do it and proven it. Plenty of travel and you won't bend drive shafts!

It will require some welding but apart from that not to hard, I have thought about doing it to my car, still undecided.

Apart from that careful of your sump plug its getting pretty thin by the looks of it, just to let you know. If you can get another one and cut the plug out and rreposition it to a higher position!!!

God knows how stiff your car is now, but hopefully it will stop acting like a lathe on the drive shaft...come to think of it, thats quite a good way to lighten them

rayray086

Let the driveshafts self-clearance themselves - mine rubbed at the same point as well but it got to the stage where it stopped rubbing on the frame haha. I'm worried about the first mark though - what's rubbing on that? And how about your tie-rods? Are those rubbing?

If you've got the money, go for an R32 pan with the shorter pickup. Slightly more clearance but we all know millimetres make all the difference :bigok:

oh thats good to hear. i wanted to hear that. The other line is rubbing from a zip tie on my brake line. i'm not actually sure why its there. Its probably holding my whole car together. i looked at The tie-rods, and couldnt find any evidence of rubbing. thankfully.

i would like an r32 pan. They are like 300 bucks arent they?

thats only a few engine sumps...i might think about it

just as my car reached 196XXX i started hearing the dreaded noise from the engine. So shes now parked on the side of the road infront of a KFC where i was driving it at the time, until it can have its timing chain done.

What kind of price should i be looking at for a timing chain? i've had a quote of 1200??

thats probly a reasonable ballpark figure. If you havent done it already you should probly do the clutch whilst youre in there as well though.

maybe i should do the same colour wheel nuts and lip on the wheels...green wheels would be a bit full on....

and hard to clean...

if you want to do it ill give you a hand...i still have part of your bumper left over but jump in quick i think i know another mk3 who wants to do the number plate too :P: rolleyes:

VERY nice! Can't wait to see it all painted up!
thanks ray. any tips for painting? im painting it myself this coming week

:toocool: :appl: I'm diggin the green too for some reason..so 90's!

thanks alex...sorry...i ran out of credit so i couldnt reply...are your bumpers plastic or metal?

All good, ..mine are plastic and they need to be painted anyway.
Perfect time to smooth!

As for paint I'de get a colour code and take it to a car place, they can then match up a spray can..I have one for mine it's an exact match!

If you need a hand I can come see how you done yours, still got a week off college
Might have a crack at mine too.

Don't see the numberplate recess shaved on euro bumpers too often, interesting stuff. I take it you're planning on mounting the plate somewhere lower or to one side?

Prep it right. Sand it all down until you get to 240 grit, clean it, then wipe it over with wax and grease remover (wait for it to flash off or use a clean cloth to wipe it down). It's essential to use clean cloths all the way, try not to re-use the same cloth and don't turn it over too many times.

Let the primer sit for a day, then sand it up to 240 grit again with a block. If you see indents or any other imperfections, sand it all down back to filler/plastic, and fill that spot over. Spray with high-fill or spray putty if there are flat spots. Again, give it a day to sit. Then sand it over up to 400 grit ready for paint. That's how I do it.

And with your number-plate, please don't off-set it!

Sanding isn't that hard mate, you've just gotta be real picky and not flunk it because the results will be DIRECTLY affected with your efforts :)

Oh and it takes time haha.

What's the minimum drop on these?

They're REALLY cheap on eBay at the moment due to our dollar so I'm getting tempted....

You can probably raise the car with them too, so I'd say whatever height you want, you will get. haha
