Unfortunately this sounds like it's coming from inside the rocker cover on the left. At least it's not my new chains making noise, but it still sounds serious. Noticed it this morning as i dropped the gf at work.

Looked on youtube at similar vids and it sounds exactly like what i assume to be noisy lifters. I have little to no idea about this so can someone give me some information?

In answer to your questions...
Coming from inside the rocker cover on the left (that metal box thingo you see on the left of the intake manifold). Difference in power is none, although I know I'm very low on oil! oops..
I'm gonna change and fill up the oil today, might also chuck in some lifter free-up stuff...shall let y'all know how it goes :)

Low oil is a pretty good reason for hydraulic lifters to be noisy, depending on how low of course.

Hey mickey.
the same thing has happened to me before. freaked me out. It is just a sticky tappet. It should come loose.
no big drama. just drive it steadily while its making that noise and it should come unstuck
:) good luck buddy

Sorry lads, been out the whole weekend and haven't given you my little photo's of the fun I had on saturday under the car :D
It was indeed a lifter noise, so I just serviced the engine and threw in some lifter-free-up additive to the oil. I have found out that I actually have an oil leak that I wasn't aware of...and here's a pic to show you why. Be prepared...it's pretty hardcore...

PWNED!
My sump plug is skimmed and it leaks probably 2-5ml a day. Oh, and this is what I found while underneath my car also. Someone was servicing it and decided that they were SO happy they'd leave a note to tell someone!

I was going to suggest some Wynns lifter free up treatment and a service. Good stuff dude. Gummy lifters can sound nasty but it's easy to fix (usually).

Nice leak there Mickey...Looks like you are up for a sump gasket there...looks like an easy job though.

When you get noisy lifter/lifters put some good engine flush in the oil and run the engine for 10 to 20 minutes before you drain it. LiquiMoly makes engine flush (Engine Detox) and also some lifter quiet additive (I can't remember now what they call it), Sonax brand engine flush is good too and it is not solvent based.
Once you put new oil in engine, run engine at 3,000rpm for 2 to 5 minutes to bleed the air out of the lifters. You can try this before you change oil to see if there is less noise after you revved the engine to determinate if it is actually lifters noise.

Hey! No peeing contests!
Ray I've got scrapes under the whole car, no need to worry yourself ;).
Transporter, I actually did an engine flush on the last service so I left that out this time. I used the liqui-moly lifter freeup additive for this :).
After about 170km the noise is almost gone! The bottle says about 500km until final results so I'm waiting to see.
And in a completely unrelated matter...these stupid knocking sounds are coming from my engine mount. I need a Darwin award, quick...I changed the mounts and not only did I stop suspecting them, I didn't even check the brackets that bolted them to the motor itself! The front engine mount had two m12 bolts missing...thanks Mischa?
Lots of unnecesary clunking/engine movement:) not nice, but fixed now.
