The auto gearbox in our 97 GL has been causing trouble for a while now. Sticking in gear and really clunky changes, it also seems to be oozing some sort of pink liquid in small amounts whenever it feels like.
Obviously it is on its last legs (mum never looked after it because she never wanted that car in the first place), but is there anything we can do to try and make its last months a bit more easy going?
I already know that we will be up for a new gearbox soon enough, or should I say that I will be up for one to put in it soon as dad has starting hinting that I should buy it off him so I am stuck with its issues. What sort of rough figure would I be looking at for a replacement and getting it installed?

is the pink stuff actually coming fromt the box itself? or somewhere above it?
if its leaking pink fluid it could be coolant if it turns crusty when it dries.
then again it could be auto fluid as well.
could always do a manual swap. they are much more reliable than the autos and the swap isnt that hard.

I have a good auto gearbox for sale at the moment. They all break, so get a replacement lined up before it dies. Consider a manual conversion if you can drive it, much better car then.

If it clunks overfill it with oil . It seems to make the oil pump work harder , but its only a temporary fix and doesnt always work .

We took a look this afternoon and it seems like it is coolant and something else leaking from the gearbox itself.

Had been thinking of a manual swap for a while, but looking at what else needs doing on it I think I may be better off just buying my own car that needs less money spent on it.

Dad had tried that one in the past with no luck.
Ah well, just save up some more cash and start looking around at second hand ones. Thanks guys.
