what ways are there to make your tyres not have inner wear.

a combination of adjusting:
- the camber - relativeness of the top of the tyres vs the bottom of tyres - measured by a spirit level against the face of wheel- in an ideal world and even tyre wear world be achieved if tyres were vertical
- the toe (relativeness of width of tyres at front to the rear); ideally again, equal front and back tracking

but in reality you are probably looking for little bit of negative camber and a bit of toe in. factory would probably be a little bit of -ve camber (top of wheel further in) and toe in (front of tyres closer together than the rear of front tyres)

when you get an alignment done at a tyre shop check that they will adjust both camber and toe (not just toe)

toe, yes; camber - i would assume there is on your passat, as it is on all golfs - anyone else know?

my thinking is that camber kits are for those cars that either a) are not camber-adjustable or b) so excessively dropped that they need extra!

Go to a reputable steering specialist and get a wheel alignment. Don't go to a tyre service.

Adams at Padstow.
Barry Solomon at Mortdale.
There is a place around Sydenham also.

The camber appears to be adjustable on a Golf 3.
To adjust the camber on a Golf 2, you need special bolts, part number N 101 740 02. These are the standard bolts for Golf 3. If not, C&S Auto has them.
