Anyone know what the tension is for the oil drain on the 2.0 Tdi?

30Nm, says the Haynes manual.

Thanks Peter, didn't know Haynes had one out yet.

i wonder does anybody ever take note of this, or does VW use a torque wrench.
me, just do it tight but without the chance of damaging the bolt or crushing the washer.

They should take not of this. Threads wear out and over-torquing is a major contributor of this. You would be suprised how many mechanics over-torque everything.

The Haynes came out in 07 but I couldn't get it here until mid last year. Probably could've gotten it a bit sooner over the net but I wanted to support my local car bookshop, Drysdales, where I'd gotten other manuals before.
btw are you planning to reuse the sump plug? I did the first time, but started changing it when I found out it was only a few dollars. Not sure why they didn't make it possible to change just the washer... apart from commercial reasons!

you can't change the sump plug washer alone?
could it be a TDI thing, as I have an invoice for $0.50 for the GTI sump plug washer

Yeah they have designed the thing so as you change the plug as well as the washer. Not sure why possibly the plug is the softer metal?
Hey guys back on topic please.. Or if the OP's been answered satisfactorily, it'll be closed :)
