factory

Hi all I have a late MY08 GTI with the MP3 socket in the centre console. It also has a factory iPod kit. Due to the iPod kit the Mp3 socket in the console is disabled. IF I remove the kit will the socket then work? OR will I need the dealer to reprogram?
The facotry kit works ok, with controls on the wheel etc, but is restrictive given it only access 6 play lists - I'd rather have full external control of the iPod.
Anyone want to buy a factory kit??

While the car is reasonably new it all comes down to the kit, it could be over 1.5 years old. I've learnt that if it works with a 2nd Gen iPod Touch then it'll work with an iPhone so just watch out, older Apple components and accessories don't work with newer models.

Would you believe I'm actually going to buy an iPhone on the weekend so I'll let you know. If it does we can work out a price. It works with my iPod (not a touch but only a year old or so) and also works with my first gen iPod so I think it will work with all. Will let you know.

Sorry, doesn't work with an iPhone 3GS, may work with earlier models but I doubt it.
Can anyone confirm that if I remove the factory kit the functionality of the in console MP3 input will be restored?
thanks

I've been told that to fit the ipod adaptor, they use disconnect the aux-in... and to disconnect the ipod adaptor and re-connect the aux-in, dealer service dept will charge "about $130"...
