hey
I have A 94 golf vr6. It's an automatic and it's having a few problems.
I hit a kerb really hard which smashed the front left suspension, and some how I hit my drive train which snapped 2 days later.
Basically my mechanic has said it will cost $4000 to fix and once it's all fix and bolted together, he's not sure weither the transmission will work.
Now I know next to nothing about cars, hence the thread. See I would pay the $4000 to get it fixed if it was a straight $4000 but with the added cost of fixing a transmission, if it doesn't work, I can't afford any more.
Can anyone give any advice? My current sway is to be done with it but I really really want to keep it haha.

Find another mechanic.
Driveshaft is $150ish second hand
Hub and wishbone are $200 each or similar and its not hard to bolt it all together.
You could even disconnect it all and see if the transmission works with the car up in the air.
Like I say, find a mechanic who uderstands these cars and has fair pricing.

So there is a way to see if the transmission will work without doing all the work first?
I think I'm going to get it towed to gold coast vw and see what they say. The mechanic I go to specializes in vw's but I've always been pretty dodged out by the business.

Dont goto Gold Coast VW.

The dealership will charge through the nose to work on an old car like yours.

Talk to JMac on here, or another local independant.

Yeh , I just saw jmac's ad in the classifieds. Hmm wonder how much a tow truck is up the highway. Shouldn't be much.
Might send him a pm.
