The Yellow Scirocco is another one of Mark Hammonds old cars, he owned it twice i think. I was going up to the Blue Mountains once in my Corrado and it was coming down towards Penrith, i wondered what the hell it was, looked like another Corrado at first. Looked very wide!! Was all over in a few seconds so good to see a pic.

Looking good there Andy, the Scirocco looks good anywhere :P

Took my car to Mr Detail (http://mrdetail.com.au/) in Melbourne last week to have the full Nanolex treatment (Paint, Rims, Glass and Interior) + Paint correction.

Happy about the result would be an understatement  Highly recommended if anyone in Melbourne is looking for a detailer

That should give those not familiar with the Indium a good sense of what it looks like. It is one of those colours that I think will look very flat on a grey Melbourne day but absolutely sparkles when there is good light for reflections

I'll post a few different shots elsewhere.

Well yes in a word though she hasn't driven it yet.

She loathed the BMW so I stood a very good chance of improving my fortunes on this one.

She will like driving it..she loved our old MkV GTI and the car in D is pretty benign below about 2500rpm.

Winner I would say at this early stage!

I presume i'm being baited....

Have to admit the pic looks good esp considering that i'm generally very dubious about black rims. Other priorities at the moment might mean the talle's stay silver for the moment at least. Having thought out it forvall of three seconds I've decided I don't like black talle's.

Could be pursuaded by the rims in the picture from the concept x though.

Just be careful as the offsets are different. That is what I was originally going to do but can't be done. Get them to spray them instead. Dealer originally agreed to do it as part of the sale and when I asked about offset after it was brought up on here, he went and confirmed it couldnt be done.

Golf R wheels on Rocco R

Are the golf r rims or painted tallies? The dealers in Sydney get them sprayed and donot swap them. I can't imagine them putting spacers on them from the dealership.

she_dub
05-05-2012, 06:16 PM
Stos is absolutely correct. Most likely painted Scirocco wheels- same tallies. No dealer (in their right mind) is going to put spacers on, considering it's illegal.

Although if you look in the pic it looks as though the back wheel is sunk in more than usual so they may have gone for the black wheels as opposed to having nice offsets haha, they obviously don't care about stance :P

No....he had the car for 4 days. There is no way for the amount of detail he goes into that he can finish in one day. Car has to be extensively prepped and cleaned (claybar) first, then parts removed on the car such as front and rear bumpers, lights, door handles, reverse sensors before the wrap begins.

After a few months, break dust will turn your plasti dipped rims into a dirty brown color. And unfortunately you can't clean the plasti dip without tearing it. Enjoy it for a few months. You can carefully clean it with a soft paint brush but it will never be the same as the day you first plasti dipped it. I helped RoccoR do his rims and he eventually got them professionally painted.

Thanks for the headsup RoccOwner I have to say it is starting to look a bit brown and I thought it just needed a good clean. Did you use the clearcoat gloss when you did his rims as im wondering if that will help with them going poo brown over time.

We put the glossefier on his rims which gave them a glossier look but I think it's the actual nature of the material that allows brake dust to collect and stick to it. Even after professional detailing there was still a slight brown tinge to them. Eventually RoccoR got them professionally painted and although more expensive, looks a million times nicer over the plasti dip. Perhaps there is a way to protect them from going brown but I'm not sure. That's why I say enjoy it for a short term and then evaluate your options. A good paint with clear coat will set u back 200 a wheel.

They were semi professional. They were taken by a guy who is just starting out and is putting together his photography port folio. He asked me if he could photograph my car and in return he would give me a copy of the shots. Can't complain.

They are Brembo 6 piston with 355 rotors, so yes rather big :)

Thanks for vote of confidence on the yellow, was a bit of a gamble but I think it's paid off

Yes, I've got the VWR springs but am looking to change them soon as I find the ride a tad too harsh

Are you going back to stock? Or getting other ones

Well the springs along with the engine mount provide for a fairly rough ride. Lets just say pot holes are a painful experience :(

I won't be going back to tractor height, but am most likely going with progressive springs like those from H&R or I need to stop feeling queasy about the price of the DCC coilovers lol

RoccoR
12-04-2013, 03:05 PM
Yeah the KW's are the way to go, but you're right, that price makes me feel sick :(
Damn pitty to hear that the VWR springs are no good. I heard that the H&R arent really all that compatible with the stock shock absorbers. Something about spring rates and causing the car to bounce.

Hmmm well the other thing I don't like with the VWRs is that the back is sitting higher than the front, so it looks like I'm constantly on the brakes.

Haven't heard about the compatibility issue before.

Other problem is I've driven a Golf R which has coilovers and it's like riding on a cloud. I want that! :(

Hahaha yeah I can imagine.
I would blow $3.5k on ACC coil overs in a heart beat however I'm looking at buying a Merc A45AMG when it comes out so can't justify spending the money.
With regards to the front looking lower than the back, I believe they have done this to keep the overall "stock" stance.
All stock Roccos have that look of the back being a fraction higher.

I can relate to the H&R doing that as I'm on the H&R 35mm springs. At sweeping bends on very rough tarmac around 130kph, the Roc feels like it's washing outwards from the corner. Done the same on smooth tarmac, gripped very well.

Suspicion: spring rates along with absorbers don't line up, hence the frequency of vibration/bounce on rough surfaces is so rapid & smooth that it feels you're driving on an air-hockey table.

I wonder if anyone else have the same issue?

RoccoR
16-04-2013, 11:51 AM
Yeah exactly what I've heard before.
My understanding was that H&R springs were not progressive but the VWR ones were. Not sure where I heard this but please feel free to chime in if know otherwise.
With relation to the ride quality with the H&R springs can u comment?

I'm not sure about the H&R 25mm ones, but for the 35mm that I'm using, obviously I went more for looks than ride quality. I mainly do my daily driving around with ACC in 'Comfort' mode. Still, the rear end of the car will get totally crashy when going over railway lines, manhole covers or a kink on the road surface. So depending on what kind of roads you mainly drive on, I guess the H&R 35mm ones would be a hit and miss. I mainly drive on smooth suburban streets so I went for looks than comfort. No complaints for that.

Will post another report on how it behaves when I take my car for a long trip out of town, but for now I can say that it doesn't like rough surfaces.
