I've noticed that the Tiguan owners don't have a picture thread yet. :)

OK, to kick things off this is my Tig after it's first off-road run to test out the off-road technology.

I actually like the ABT's front grille (less the ABT badge), rest of it they can keep. Will be looking at a grille like that in the future. I'm sure somebody else will make 1 as well.

Just a picture i created in my spare time.

Some mod's would be the RS4's, blacked-out grill, mesh air-dam fills, tinted headlights and a lowering.

http://g.imagehost.org/0701/VW_Tiguan_RS4.jpg

And a black version on RS6's for Sharkie.

That looks great. RS4s really suit the silver and RS6s the black IMO.

Glad I went for Silver and RS4s .... ..... but looking at that I could just as happily have gone with the Black

Love the mesh.

I wish.
Unfortunately i can only do them in photoshop.
But it is useful to se if colours/wheels will work.

The mod's should all be do-able though (mesh from bunnings, headlight tint etc)

Nice ride Sama.

That roof extension and the rims look really good on it.
The brown seat inserts don't really do it for me but the rest is brilliant.

Another photoshop creation for you.

I swear that i read in one of the golf threads on here that you can get the hard plastic mesh from Bunnings.

Sweet photoshopping V! I'm loving the huge rims, pity they'd ride like concrete though :(

I could have made the wheels smaller but it makes them more pronounced when they are bigger.
Shouldn't be going for anything more than 19" on the tig or you will lose ride quality.
I will be lining up a set of 18" wheels when i buy mine.

Pullstarter
21-06-2009, 09:00 AM
I think 18"s are the way to go, you still get to use 50 series tyres then which would give you a reasonably comfortable ride.

Great photos, Tig, and plates mate!
I thought about getting those exact plates - until I saw how expensive ACT was for personalised plate!s!

Was fitting too - as not only do I have a Tiguan 147TSI, but my last car was an Alfa 147!

You don't get that blue in Ausi ?? it's probably the most common colour World wide, certainly in NA and Europe and it's big here in NZ too.

I opted for the darkest tint they offered and was having second thoughts but looking at the pics and your feedback it should be fine. As much as I like the black it would have prefered a colored gunmetal like some of theAudi colors available like the Dolphin Grey, Meteor Grey and Condor Gray which comes on the TT also I ahve seen the Petrol blue metalic pearl in real life realy nice colors.

17" Los Angeles wheels. Standard on N.A. SE models. Next summer these will be dedicated snows and replaced with 18" aftermarket wheels with summer rubber. I like 19" but I need a little offroader capability and 19" wheels/tires are so expensive, so 18s it is.

whoa, that's my car! I'd like to keep the VW grill emblem, but I didn't think I liked the dark headlights, but that looks the duck's guts! (now where did I see those for sale again?). What's most interesting is I was thinking of painting my lower front skirt white too and getting rid of the black. Has the effect of increasing the aggressive front stance and lowering the body height. Might just do the whole lot after seeing this!

Off to Super Expensive on Sat for a couple of cans of white plastic paint!

Black Leather
Sunroof
Fog lights
Bi-Xenons
18" New Yorks
Comfort Package
Off-Road tech
Adaptive Chassis Control (love this, it really works)
Tinted windows
Bluetooth
Scuff Plates

I spent a bit of time driving this baby and it handles brilliantly and adaptive damping works a treat.

Hi everyone , Its been 4 weeks now since we picked up our new TIG (10/11/09) and I must also say that its an awesome car to drive , Specs are 103 TDI Auto in black which really does mean , Black leather which I just love, Park assist another feature which has blown us away , 18" New York alloys with continental cross contact tyres just adds to the whole look of the car and the ride is firm but smooth .

I must say the TIG aka (THE BLACK STALLION) which is what we call it for now, has got to be one of the most sure footed cars i have ever driven in my life so far.. Driving it in the pouring rain which we got in melbourne over the weekend of the 21-22 of november was a breeze. the car just griped that road which made us feel very safe and secure. The TDI engine I have to say is just beautiful yes it has a bit of lag on take off but going up hills the thing just loves to pull , you can really feel the power behind it . Over taking can be a bit of a problem but shifting the auto to dsg and drop it down a gear makes the thing pull away and over taking a breeze , just takes a little getting used to the deisel engine which we have never owned before. Also have the off road pack but still havent used it.

Ok we are still in our running in faze ,only done 1,200 km and wont be going in for its first oil change untill it has done 5,000 km well thats when they said to to bring it for the change , but may do it earlier ..Question when should the first service/oil change be done? Also we have the bluetooth option , must say in the beginning we loved it . IT could recognize both our phones after setup and each time you get into the car the phones would automatically pair up with the car .But now we think we have a problem . my partner got a car phone charger and ever since the car is not recognizing the phones automatically meaning we have to pair up the phones and car up together everytime we get in.Q2 Has anyone out there come across this or anything similar .

Over all the car looks absolutely hot and we love it .So as i promised 4 weeks ago i have posted some pix

Personal preferences vary on this but it's worth noting that they no longer run "running in" oil in engines and the "running in" period is really limited in comparison to older vehicles. There is no "need" to have the oil changed until its first service interval at 15,000km though some people do. I've been told (had contradictory info on this but it is interesting) that because of the detergents in the oil it is actually "counterproductive" to change the oil more often than recommended !! Anyway, personally I wouldn't be changing it until it's first service if I was you. My first service came at 1 year and about 10,000k and that's when it was done. In the end you pays your money and makes your choices (by the way that oil is EXPENSIVE !!!!!!!!)

Cheers

Ricardo

Thanks ultra for the picks your car looks hot. I noticed that you have weather shields on the front windows. I would be interested to know what you think of them. Are they worth getting and do you know how much they are . Are they effective in keeping the wind of you when driving with the window open? Anyone else got them?

Thanks Ricardo, about the weather shields i"m really not sure how much they where, we had them thrown into the deal when we bought the car. As for how effective they are in keeping wind off you while driving with window down is useless. What they are good for is to stop the rain from getting in if you want the window open while its raining but you can only have the window open a very little bit , just enough to circulate the air in the car..

Thanks for your thoughts about the car. I have one thing to add what you have said. The Tigs all come with roof rails but not the roof racks. I managed to pick them up for around 250 dollars as they are worth nearly double that from the dealer and they are also an aftermarket item so they are not standard item fitted on the cars. To note we are very happy with the car and it gives excellent fuel economy as well.

VW Ups the Luxury Ante with Special Edition Tiguan Track & Avenue

http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2009/12/vw-ups-luxury-ante-with-special-edition.html

The Tiguan Track & Avenue is the latest special edition Volkswagen model to hit the company's European showrooms. It combines subtle exterior upgrades with high-end materials inside with the German firm claiming a price advantage of over €2,000 when all of its features are considered.

The special Tiguan is available in two unique exterior colors, "Oryx White Pearl Effect" and "Island Grey Pearl Effect", with the exterior package including 19-inch alloy wheels, a 25 degree off-road front end, modest wheel flares and a silver-colored rear diffuser.

The real focus of attention, however, concerns the interior that gains a high-grade leather upholstery called "Heavy Waxy" in Amaranth with colored seams.

Additionally, the compact SUV gets sport seats, an RCD 510 radio with Dynaudio sound system, "Climatronic" climate control and a leather-trimmed multifunction steering wheel with coloured seams while the package is rounded off front fog lights and Bi-Xenon headlights with dynamic curve lighting.

Volkswagen said that the Tiguan Track & Avenue is available in four engine / transmission combinations including the 200HP 2.0-liter TSI petrol with manual or automatic transmission, a 140HP diesel coupled to an automatic and a 170HP diesel linked to a manual gearbox.

Prices for the special edition Tiguan start from €38,225 (US$56,500 at today's exchange rates) for the 2.0 TSI with the six-speed manual gearbox.

2 Pics of the interior are added as they show tan/red interior and i don't know which one is correct.
I like the red leather interior against the dark grey, however, i don't see the reason for adding 19" wheels and an offroad front end..................

Cosmetic upgrades only so far, but if this is anything like the MK5, then we shall see a few more to use up spare parts and then the next-gen Tig will be released.

Great photos of the Brissie based Tiguans!

Photos of the three in a row look great!

Wonder how many we could get together here in Canberra?
Would make a great photo if we could get one of every colour in one location for some photos!

Or even one of every model?
I'm taking my Tig up to Sydney next week - which finally will be its first nice long drive! Will probably come home the long way - via the coast, or non highway route possibly. So hopefully with some good weather I can get some new photos! Will just have to get it clean!

Team_v, the black one is my Mrs, I took it out that day to do the catchup.

Left the Stock 16's and didn't go for 18's as my GTI rims got gutted a few times from the Mrs so, thought that the stock 16's can stay and there is plent off rubber there to protected them.

Did you get them to match the tint on your side rear windows?
Or go darker on all four side windows?

I'm still strongly considering tinting my front side windows on my 147.
Was just going to match the back two - but not sure if they could match it exactly though.

Disregard my questions here - I just was reading your posts in your tinting thread.

I would have gone with the white sticker if my Tig was white, but it would be too much of a contrast against a black Tig. So I'm pretty happy with my choice of grey. A pity it's not available in red...it would look great at the back with the tail lights.

hi mate,
hey I noticed that you have the chrome surrounds around the windows, but the standard black roof rails. I have only ever seen the roof rails in chrome to match the window surrounds (here in Aust anyway) Or am i getting the petrol 147 and the diesel configurations mixed up??

Love the interior red leather...again we did not get that option out here!

Nice Tig!

hey I noticed that you have the chrome surrounds around the windows, but the standard black roof rails. I think it may be just the angle/glare in pic 1 that gives this illusion. The 3rd pic shows black from what I can see? (Actually just looked closer at the 3rd pic and I could be wrong:stupid:)

I went on a trip to Hunter Valley recently and decided to go via the scenic route; exited the freeway at Peats Ridge and went through Wollombi and Broke.

Fuel consumption was disappointing at 11.1 L/100km. Probably because I redlined it a few times in sports mode during overtaking.

Hi,

They dont come in black, they are the ones you are thinking of, they change a lot in different light, look black sometimes, look gunmetal other times, look light in some of my pics as well.

Had to get em from overseas, first to do so in Australia it seems.

First impressions, definitely a step up in build quality from my previous RAV4, Sunroof is awesome especially for rear seat passengers. RCD510 also makes the car feel more luxurious.

Would love to get bigger wheels and fogs to complete the look.

If it's the black dent protectors that can be stuck onto the doors that you are referring to, I don't think it adds much to the overall look of the Tig, however the chrome window accents on your 147TSI would be a nice match to the side steps.

I think fitted cost is about $900, but it was negotiated at time of purchase. IMO the side steps make the Tig look nicer it's like a side skirt, in terms of function wise it can easily support a person standing on it to load unload things from the roof. Also when the time comes for me to get the sunroof squeaky clean it will be very well utilised.

Hi All,

I'm confused now:confused:

On this picture thread, there are great pictures of Tiguans posed on showroom floors, in drive-ways, covered in snow, in front of a beautiful mountain, next to a desert, etc, but all posed on compacted surfaces and in front of the backdrop, not IN it. Now I realise these cars are quick - so you have to park them somewhere and take a snap otherwise they're gone - but here's the conundrum:

What I know about softroading, was ignited by the Australian softroader public, and in the following way: The standard ground clearance of my 2001 Forester was a bit low - 190mm - and I was looking for a way to lift it slightly. I was clueless about this at the time and started typing all sorts of search combinations into Google, untill the Scorpion website popped up. There I saw that you actually can put spacers between suspension turrets and struts and lift your car. Wow, what a discovery! So I made my own - a few times already - and has not looked back since.

Now it seems that most of the Australian softroader enthusiasts whom these offroad accessory companies cater for must still be driving Subarus, because the contribution of images of Tiguans in an offroad environment are few and far between, with a small number of dedicated contributors.

Come on people, stretch your risk profile a bit and send some action/offroad pictures! Or was VW right when they said that they envisage that only 5% of buyers would take these cars offroad?

At the risk of being accused of cross-posting, a few of my favourites.

No VW was incorrect ... I'd suspect its around 1% .....

Mine will never see even a dirt road .... to me its a high performance AWD hatch with decent interior space ....

around 1% .....I dare say VW has done a bit more research, realistically none of us really know and we estimate based on our own particular beliefs and experiences

that its a high performance AWD hatch that will never see a dirt road for you, a family car for others, and a powerful light off road 4wd for others is testament to the Tigs versatility

for our interest and the Tig I hope that modifications are successfully pursued all directions

Not sure if I've put these on here before, if so I can't find them so apologies if it's a repost. From last winter at a place called Fraser's Dam at about 4000 ft above Alexandra. On the day the "road" (track is a realistic description) was bog at the bottom of the hill and solid ice in places on the way up with a hore frost that everything coated in ice (you can see it on the trees). It was about -10ºC all the way. Extensive use of off-road function both up and down the hill to really good effect BUT it would have been REALLY nice to have had some decent off-road rubber !!! cos it was touch and go in the boggy bits.

First pic is on the way up the hill:

Makes me wish i could do a front end swap for the off-road front.

Would be awesome to take the tig up the west coast of the south island, those roads are fantastic to drive on.

Been there, done that !!! AND on some of the forestry tracks on the coast too. The off-road function on the Tig (particularly combined with the 28º nose, diesel auto) is actually really good, the limiting factors are ground clearance (which has never actually become an issue for me) and TYRES. I really should cough up for some 16" steel wheels with decent rubber but I don't do enough off-road to warrant it really (and I'm getting too old and grumpy to be bothered changing wheels all the time !!!).

Cheers

Not quite correct, as I understand it in USA the "S" model (basic) is manual transmission, FWD, no roof rails, basic mfd, etc etc. All the other models have roof rails standard. A lot of NAs buy the S just to get the manual box and then mod from there.

My Tiguan on a 4x4 track covered in snow in the Victorian high country last week. Snow depth was up to about 50cm at close to 1000m in places, which is unheard of over the last 20 years down here! Scored one broken snow chain and a 1m log through the plastic under body protection/noise insulation throughout the trip, but otherwise Tiggy held up pretty well!

hope you had a great trip in the snow, the snow was our veruy first detsination in the Tig, we flew down to Melb, picked it up and headed straight up to Hotham and Dinner Plain. Had a ball, didn't make it down there this year - jealous!!

Great to see another Tiggy being used off road. Arctra on this forum is the only one with a bash plate so far, I had arranged to get one when in Syd but it didn't work out that trip, may still get it though another time.

It costs a fortune!
Most places will actually neglect to do it becasue they cannot say for certain whether the paint will stick and match the colour as it is a different kind of plastic.
They have to sand it down until it is smooth and then primer and paint it and it is generally too much work when it is not guaranteed to give the outcome expected.

Since it has GTI badging, does that mean it's chipped or something?

Hi All,

Yep, chipping is the plan. The way I fugure it, I could have put R badges on due to the power of the APR going to 189KW. However I guess the GTI badges suit the look of the wheels.

Plus it keeps a little suprise up my sleeve compared to the 160 odd kw of the GTI golf!

You know the two best ones they showed me at the shop were the ones you got, and the ones I got! These had the best fit etc for our VW vehicles. There was no need for spacers, hub locators, or any modifications...

I dont mean any disrespect to others who have chosen great looking wheels! I had just had too many hassles with other brands of wheels before, hence I chose the "genuine" fit patterns etc...

Our Tig after a good coat of Nanolex. I say a good coat, because I used about 40% of the bottle - eeeek. Have now done our second (and smaller car) and yes, not much of the bottle left, probably enough to do the alloys on the Tig (which need a more serious clean before getting the Nanolex). Must say I have been impressed with the Nanolex so far, up close you can really see and feel the difference. Hopefully with experience I'll do better with eeking it out!

Took my 2 day old Tiguan out for a play in the hills today, I know it's not a proper 4WD by any stretch but I was quite impressed. It made it up steep muddy/loose gravel tracks without a fuss and I wasn't sure it would (mine doesn't have the Off-Road pack). Most of the places I went I've taken low 2WD cars without drama but it allowed me to take a few side tracks I've never been able to go up before... one in particular I pointed a Commodore at and it just sat there spinning the wheels. It's lucky the Commodore didn't go up there as it turns out because it's quite badly rutted.

It was raining and I used my phone so please excuse the low quality.

Anyone want a well used and lop sided arm chair?

The view from North Ledge down towards Mundaring Weir. I didn't think to take a photo before the rain started and obscured the view.

Didn't get any photos but I took it to the Powerlines Track (well... the track leading to it anyway) for a laugh, made it to the steep downhill rock hopping bit and wasn't keen to go further obviously. It's a soft roader and I bought it to use it as one. Very happy with it :)

Glad you are enjoying it's usefulness offroad.

I don't have the offroad tech either and was wondering how it would fare.

For $300 I would have liked the Off Road pack but none in stock had it at the dealers I tried, the Tig still does well without it. I'm really impressed with the Tiguan, although it's no Golf GTI it still handles quite well on road and can also do a bit off road - a good all rounder.

Now to put a few km on it so I can chip it and start saving for a few other bits and pieces :driver:
I've been following your build thread over the last couple of months with interest to see what can be done.
I'm toying with the blacked out grille and dark tint's a definite. Haven't decided whether or not I keep the stock wheels on it or go for something else on road and keep the 16s for off road/long trips.

Hi
I've been towing a Cub Supamatic with a Tiguan 103TDI since April 2010.
We've travelled over 15,000 km towing with fuel consumption less than 9l/100 km.
The Tiguan tows effortlessly and is great to drive.
The Tig now sports a Hobie kayak secured on a Thule Hullivator with a Thule roof box for gear.

NOICE (insert catchy collective noun) of veedubs! Don't mind that new blue... :cool46:
Not really a fan of the sticky-uppy OE roofracks though...

That isn't the new blue.
Biscay blue has a massive depth to it so it can range from light blue to really dark depending on the light.

The new Night Blue is very dark but doesn't really pop lightness in direct light.

Hi I've just come across this image and it looks amazing. Does anyone know what bulbs are in the fog lights as they look xenon White compared to factory yellow? I want these for my tiguan r line when I pick it up. Are they led replacements?
