Hi Guys,
I've been looing at various wheels and thought I better double check the exact offset etc of the stock wheels so if you need that info here it is:

16x6.5" with ET33 (its stamped on the inside of the wheel spokes)

I know a few of us are looking at the RS4 replica rims, these seem to be available in ET40 and ET42 offset. I don't think this will be a problem on the rear but on the front I'm not so sure, there is only a small gap between the edge of the stock tyre and the bottom spring cup on the strut. Was hard to measure accurately but looks to me like its only 1" or so clearance.

Someone please correct me if i'm wrong but these are my calculations;

18x8" wheel will be 38mm wider, if an ET40 rim is used this translates to the new rim being 26mm further in on the inside and 12mm further out on the outside.

18x8" in an ET42, 28mm further in on the inside and 10mm further out on the outside, I hate to say it but I think ET42 on the front may be a problem, I really hope I'm wrong on this :frown:

yep I think you may have clearance issues with 18x8 +42 hence I went with some +35 for just a little extra clearance. Ideally I would go with a +25 to +30 even to get a tougher look as the Tigs have so much guard clearance (unless you lower it) that scraping wouldnt even be an issue.

What size and width rims are you using Paragon 18x8? Mine is getting lowered next week, wanted to get that done first just in case.

With H&R springs from GTI_Dave on this forum being installed by Canberra VW Centre hopefully next thursday. Springs were around $500-ish, not sure on install cost yet, couple of hours probably.

Thanks William I like those RS6 rims, unfortunately the overall diameter is wrong with those Q7 wheels and tyres. I was also looking at these;

I'm very happy with the look of the rims on my 147 - happy to show it off to anyone who wants to see it as well!

I'm going to try ET35 offsets with 18"x8", I think ET42 MAY fit but not too sure, I reckon they would be damn close to hitting the front struts.

I had done some research on the fitments and I risked it bought a set of 18 x 9 offset 45mm, read on Delta 4x4 that they used the same offset and width on their 19" and I thought that it was worth it, I got them at a super deal, dealership installed them yesterday and I went to have a look this morning and they're just perfect, as if I had taken every measure I needed, I installed a pair of 255/45R18 and it looks awesome and I think it will perform very good as well as I'm planning on tuning it. Check pics out at the pic thread.

just want to verify is the Tiguan wheel PCD 112mm or 115mm like a Tourag ? Just that I made an enquiry on RS6 wheels withh the 112 bolt pattern and was told that they wouldn't fit the Tiguan.

I am a future buyer myself and trying to work it if I am better off buying after market wheels for a TSI 2.0 125 or getting the 18" New York alloys which for a $2300 upgrade for wheels and tyres is fairly reasonable and IMO are the best looking Australian VW Factory Tiguan wheels available the 16"s are a bit blah

It depends what you want.
I looked at upgrading the the 18's and decided i would rather get some aftermarkets as they can be more stylish and $2300 for stock 18" alloys is a bit expensive.
However the OEM wheels have been designed to go on the tiguan and some say they have better build quality.

Best bet is to go with the stocker's (16") and if you want to upgrade, then you can sell the 16's and get some money off the new wheels, and seond hand 18's might be cheaper.

If I could give me 2 cents, I suggest buying aftermarket, for the only reason that I'm looking for lighter wheels than stock, in my case I went with OZ Superleggera and I saved some weight on each corner. That is a good way to tune to gain some acceleration, brake power and cornering if that is your interest.

Have to remember that spacers can always "fix" offset problems ....

I may (or not hopefully) have to go this route ..... :duh:

Actually would like to as it will give the Tig a really aggressive stance .....

I was led to believe that wheel spacers are illegal in Australia.
Or is this a sneak mod that would be too hard to spot?

Yes, illegal in most states. They are however very hard to spot. A number of guys on this very forum use them .....

How often have you seen a cop on his knees :bowdown:looking to see if there were spacers fitted ? .... especially on an otherwise very stock looking VW .....

I'm willing to risk it if it works ....

Ahh okay.
I thought that might have been the case, hard to spot and not really looked at.

It does add another option if the offset won't work but if they are replica's they should also make them in more fitting offsets.

Thanks for the update Sharkie.

Yeah I agree aftermarket is the way I am going now and the OZ racing wheels are definately a quality wheel, personaly I want some 19"s as thye 18" look like 17'on the Tiguan or any SUV for that matter.

As for wheels spacers I think as long as the bolt onto the hub they are legal(like most which are avaiable for VWs) and not just a floating spacer ring sandwiched between the wheel and hub, from memory I think some porches came out with factory fitted spacers of the bolt on variety.

Just saw the R6 whhels you have lined up Sharkie they look good, are they the copies available from Tempe tyres, they also had an aftermarket Fox R5 wheel which looks ok.

The question should be - Do you think an insurance assessor would look closely at a Tiguan wreck that will cost him a $50k payout, that probably would have bent and broken wheels?

Which is why I always declare aftermarket alloys to the insurance ..... it normally adds nothing to my premium and if you have it listed, they cannot deny a claim on it.:)

But now that Pullstarter has confirmed that ET42 18"s fit there is no need for spacers anyway ....

+1
Didn't cost me any extra either, and now they are listed on the policy, so no disputing it (I hope).

Biggest thing with insurance is to declare everything to minimise the loopholes.

If you're looking at some 'different' mods and concerned about speaking to them directly, use a broker and get them to make the inquiries for you.
