Placed my order for a Caddy TDI this morning and may have it on friday.
Got nice plans for it too. One thing on the definate list is to colourcode the damn front bumper!! Sho7uld have been done at the factory.
Suspension, wheels and a reflash is also there too plus a jazzy signage scheme.
Cheers, Andrew :)

That is fast! Was your price effected by changes ACCC made,or didn't you noticed any difference?

Its a white one, a good base for the business stuff to go on though a red or blue would have been nice. Cant wait to get the changes to it done, the Mk5 GTI wheels will go on it for the moment though a set of BBS would look better... It will be a good advertisment for the workshop.

We have pretty well no recession down here and the tax thing isnt a problem for me. I am constantly booked out 1-2 weeks in advance here

The GTI has done 61000 kms in 3.5 years and will be parked under the unit and brought out on the weekends. I just covered 4,882 kms on my trip to the nationals and Brissie with absolutely no hiccups apart from an errant fault code thrown. Averaged 7.6l per100 which is amazing for it. Copped a hard time in northern NSW on a long windy road and loved it!! :driver:
Whether I take the Caddy or the Golf to the Vic dovw is yet to be decided, either way, I will be there!!
Andrew :)

That is awesome, so from that I can assume that your new book keeper is a little more upstanding than the last.

Hey Chris, the reflash on deisels go in very quickly mate. I can only do 4 tyre pressures while reflashing Golf TDIs. Will be interesting mate and yep, be in for a track test anyday!! You have laid down the guantlet!!
Thanks Mickey, I will be very careful not to have too much coding on the front, leave the grills in black.
Mick, the new book keeper is doing a great job, as ugly as he looks!! Makes me wonder where all the money has gone over the years.......
Shane has given me a sizeable discount plus thrown in the rear mat and mudflaps. He is a hard taskmaster but when you look at the dozens of Mk5s I have sold for them, they still owe me!!

And Ben, thanks mate, I would love to get over to Adelaide again sometime soon. Better get over this last trip!!:driver:
Cheers fellas, Andrew :)

Just watch Jacksons on their build and compliance dates, as I was not given the VIN for the Sportline until they relocated it to Hobart only to find it was an 11/06 complied 05/07... that gave me the jeebies, other than that they send me an SMS on Tuesday to say congrats on 2 years of ownership...

This is turning into a lack of communication disaster with the local dealer. After numerous phone calls to them last week and another this morning, its dragging out. I was told this morning that I would get a phone call by 11.30am and its now 3.20pm. I did get one phone call from someone in there who was registering it in my name but that was at about 11am.
I am patient, dont worry, and I refuse to ring them again.
Bit of a stand off going on here I think!!
We will see what happens next eh?

Off carsales and after a lot of being mucked around by dealers and finance companies its all come to fruition.
Check it out, better than brand new by far and a credit to its former owner, Vince.

I warned you it was going to be a stand out on the roads down in Hobart and with my signwriter working overtime on a design this weekend I am sure its going to be great for the business. No shock control huh? The KW dampers in my van have adjustable rebound on the rear, so you can stop that quite easily. I actually need to take an increment or two out of it to get to to pitch a bit more.

What shocks are you going to get to fix the problem? Or are you going to get the ones in the van re valved?

gtimk5
21-07-2009, 08:21 PM
Its got KW coilovers to suit a Touran in the front and will get it on the hoist later this week as its due for the 22,500 service. I am not sure what brand of rear shocks it has yet.
The rear leafs have been reset and the axle hasnt been flipped. One thing I did notice is that the rear bump stops look very original so it may even be bottoming out. I would think of getting my old favourites, Konis, although I am not 100% happy with the Koni kit that I fitted to the GTI. Also trying to get info about spring rates from the local supplier was fruitless...:frown:
I will check the suspension later in the week.
By the way, the local dealers were checking it out through their window today while I was picking up parts!!! (their loss!!!)

Hey Andrew... congrats on the Caddy purchase.... she's a beauty! i hear that the guy you bought it off is a pretty good bloke too :)

Glad to see you made back OK. The coilovers in the front are H & R and the rear shock is just the standard item. I remember that the original bump stops were cut fractionally to stop it bottoming out.

My garage is not the same without that bright orange thing greeting me in the morning.... so i was thinking.... can i have it back????

They're V1's. The only difference between V1's and V2's is adjustable front rebound. You don't really need to play around with the front as it's pretty sweet as is. :)

I have been driving old kombis for years now and I have been working on them for over 35 years now. Driving late model VWs really does spoil you and I never really got used to smelly heaters ect.... Late last year I sold my camper and ute and while driving up to the nationals on the Hume on my own I had a lot of time to think about a decent work vehicle as the GTI was clocking up over 60000 kms on my trip. My trip back to Tassie gave me more time to work out what would be a decent showcase for my business and the TDI caddy seemed to tick all of the boxes.
The fact that I managed to get an orange one rather than a plain white one was the biggest bonus for me and to get such a tidy example topped it all off. It has only attracted decent comments from everyone that has looked at it. A few people driving past my business have actually pulled up in the street and walked back to check it out!! DOVW will more than likely see me venturing back across the Strait in it.

.... and Jaffas as the fuel additive ?

Just kidding, I really like bright coloured vehicles, they really are so much safer (easier to see) than dull grey or black when it is anything less than sunny (just my opinion, not wanting to start a "colour" tangent). I'm starting to wonder whether I should have been more adventurous when speccing my Transporter.
