Guys, just curious about who the manufacturer of the RCD310, RCD510 and RNS510 sound systems in our VW's are?? is it Bose, Blaupunkt etc etc??? also what are the outputs of the units in RMS power and what is the THD (total harmonic distortion)??? THD is important to me as I love my pure sound!!!
Cheers and beers.

THD, is it really an issue criusing along the highway at 100km/h with wind noise. road noise etc.
Surely if youre after pure sound then the listening experience would be far better at home from a hi-fi system and not car audio.
Anyhow i can tell you that the RNS510 is manufactured by VDO Siemens

Thanks Logsie...... I know, as you say true sound comes from a real system in a lounge like my Arcam system but it's somethig I like to know anyway.

i have to agree, the interior of a car is not the best place to try to get good quality audio.
i am under the impression that the RCD310 and RCD510 are made by Blaupunkt ?
someone correct me if im wrong.
i also believe they are both rated at 20WRMS x 4.

Nope, they're made by Continental AG who took over Siemens VDO Automotive AG on the 3rd of December 2007. RNS 510's depending on their age will have a number of different names on there, the latest name is Continental VDO or VDO - a continental company.
i also believe they are both rated at 20WRMS x 4.
Spot on.

thanks for the correction.
The early RCD 500's were made by Blaupunkt and the later ones with MP3 capability where made by Panasonic. The same applies to the RCD 300's from memory as well.

Has anyone bought one of these from overseas and installed it ? I see you can get them from the UK or Lithuania where they are made from what I understand.

Most maybe all the RNS 510's are made in the Czech Republic.
There's no problems with buying them from overseas other then the normal risks like no warranty etc and you can save a fair bit.

Who is the RCD 510 made by? Have you got some photos of the unit (back and sides)? (I'll pm you my email address if you don't want to post them).

having just now had a look, my RCD510 is made in portugal, by Blaupunkt.
and it came from a 2009 Passat CC.
so Blaupunkt must still be making RCD510's.....
