This waiting thing is not good for me! :tapfingers:

I have ordered a 103TDI, a couple of weeks ago. I didn't get leather seats but the more time I have to think about it the more I'm talking myself into it... I have small children so it really makes sense (see I'm doing it again), I just baulked at the price tag.

Does anyone know whether you can fiddle with options after you've ordered a car?

It's not due to be built until July, and I don't want to stuff it up and have to wait even loooooonnnnnnngggggggger.

I guess I could call the dealer, but I don't like talking to them  thought I'd get an opinion from here first

I would get the leather seats especially with kids. Just make sure it's the black and not cream. I guess as long as they haven't started building the car it should be fine. It's still about 5 weeks away! The only other thing is that I won't expect them to be discounting anything i.e. $4000 full price.

I am indifferent to leather seats ordinarily, but we got leather with our Tig and I must say I'm impressed. They seem very good quality. Not cold when you sit on them when it's cold, and not scoulding when you sit on them after being in the sun. And the bum-heaters are a bit of a treat too

My mate has a little 1 year old and leather is the only way to go according to him. From a cleaning up perspective it sounds like the best option, and now I can see why. The pricetag is hefty though, so I can appreciate you baulking at the option.

At $4K they are so expensive, but the electric seat is a bonus. My wife has a Golf V with leather seats and the quality of my Tiguan leather looks superior and the seats are much more comfy and hold you better. Just keep em conditioned with a cleaner/conditioner all in one application. The Meguires one is good.

Another to consider is that when you get the leather seat option you also get a little tray under the front passenger's seat to keep your valuables. You also get the option to fold the front passenger seat completely flat. This helps a lot if you have something long to cary such as a ladder, surf board etc

My Tiguan is my first leather seats (here in NZ the "luxury pack" includes leather plus RCD510 plus roof storage (if you don't have sunroof) for NZ$5,000) and I just LOVE them. We get a lot of frosty days here in Winter and the heated leather is just YUMMY !!!

Cheers

Just a thought for you, there are some very good after market upholsterers that specialise in new vehicle leather trimming that will do the job for much less than the OEM price. Plus you get to chose more than just black or cream.

I for one always get leather seats...
I have them in my new Tiguan. Made very well, extremely comfortable, and in my car (147TSI) you get the under seat drawers, and the little tables for the back seat passenger.

I have always gone for genuine / factory fitted leather seats -and always will.
I don't care what they cost.

For me, and especially for my dog, leather is much better than cloth.

I totally agree! Mind you the expense is a 10% premium on the base cost so not all can afford. My kids hate leather and prefer velour in my previous car but cloth now is so hard you may as well go the subtleness of leather and yes they are top quality and extremely comfortable, well done VW.Also you get Heated SEATS!!! Much better than 2008 Passat seats (yuk). I realise the 147KW TSI have extra drawers under the front seats, do you think I could order the parts and fit them to a TDI model with leather seats? Extra storage is always a must. Still dissappointed nowhere to put the Melways Street Directory.

I forgot about the heated seats - and WOW - was playing with the settings last night!

As for trying to order the under seat drawers... I have read in a couple of places they were only available on the 147TSI... but having said that bother aspects of the brochures are wrong... so who knows?!?!
Even so though - they won't fit a Melways I don't think!

They are a good size, quite deep - but when I did my initial inspection aren't A4 size.

Oh & I forgot the electric seat adjuster. In practice my wife is short bodied so whn I get in her Golf V I have to wind the critter lever down and is a pain in the butt. Electric powered seats should be standard on both front seats IMHO as well as memory settings but I guess they keep that for future models.
The drawers I refer to are located at the rear of both front seats so the rear passengers have storage is this right? I have not checked out a TSI yet as they walk out of dealers showrooms fast.

The drawer (there's only ONE) is under the front passenger's seat and opens "forward" not for the back seat passengers.

The NA electric seats get electric BOTH sides and memory on the drivers side (for the exterior rear view mirror as well !!). The memory can be "attached" to a particular key so whoever unlocks it will get the seat and mirror set as they get in !!

Cheers

Sounds like you NZ guys get the cream of technology in Aust so far we get electric seat on drivers side only, no memory function. As I said previously, updates for later model I guess.

Yeah, that's annoying coz I really wanted the driving position memory option so that at the touch of a button it's adjust the seating and wing mirrors between my girlfriend and I's positions. Surely that would have cost little to nothing for VW to do if they already have the electric seat in place!

No it's NOT in NZ, we're the same as you, it's in NA (North America) that they get the memory seats etc BUT only on their top model (SEL).

I waited 6 days from paying my deposit to requesting a colour change and was told that it was too late, the car had already been scheduled for production.

What's even more annoying is that Skoda have all this technologyin there cars in Aust already, I guess trying to lure VW buyers. The way they drip feed technology out into cars is cruel. I also have the multiple driver situation. I bet the cable loom has the capability already and the electronics, probably just needs the buttons.

Per the Tiguan brochure, the leather seats option comes with a drawer under the front passenger seat, and you also get the tables behind both front seats. So if you have a 103TDI or 125TSI and tick the leather option, you'll get the drawers.

I can confirm that as I ticked the leather box with my TDI and it has a drawer under the front passenger seat. Hadn't checked the driver seat to be honest.

LOL - confession time - neither have I!
Checked out the passenger one.... not sure but I think I am meant to have one under my drivers seat as well.

The 147 comes standard with drawers for both front seats which are cloth trim. However if you tick the leather option you lose the drawer for the driver's seat. This is because of the space required for the electrical components for the electric driver's seat.

Good point! It's too late to add it now anyway, the car is scheduled for production. Can anyone recommend an upholsterer in eastern Melbourne? I've heard Blackman and Sons are good.
And my behind will just have to stay frosted in the winter!

A much cheaper option is to use a hot water bottle!
