It's the wheels. of course! (Mate.. if you polish that car much more you'll be through to the primer by Christmas :) )

Well done, yep! 18s. j:
A customer up north got em on his new GTI a month ago but found the ride a bit harsh. Fitted Yokohama C drives to the 17s and did a swap.
They have done about 1000 kms and have Contis. The Yokies were a hell of a lot nicer riding than the Contis on the 17s. Take note anyone going for wheels and tyres on their GTIs.
The turn in is a lot more responsive with the 18s but the ride suffers on bumpy roads.
Oh Brackie!!!!! Its had 3(?) polishes in 13 months. lol!!! j:
Cheers Andrew :)

Look's good Andrew. Nice find with the wheels too. You wont come across a deal like that everyday. Especially 18" BBS CH's!

Thet do look a lot bolder than the 17s but the brakes look smaller!!! j:

Thanks Andrew - same to your family - meant to ask & make sure those fires were not too close to Hobart! -

have a good Chrissy break

The current fires aren't close to Hobart but we had a huge one here a couple of months ago.
Think of Targa Guy and remember the Elephant Pass stage on the east coast day. Very thick forest and steep, thats where the fires are headed today. Gets in there and there will be NO stopping it! Cheers, Andrew :o

Shocking job for all the fire fighters nationwide and their families. Gotta feel for them....

The 18s look great Andrew. For the record I picked it straight away, the 18s have the motorsport lettering around the hub, the 17s don't.

I feel for you guys with the fires, having lived through Ash Wednesday in SE Sth Australia in 1983 and Canberra 2003 I know just what you're going through.

Cheers Liam

Hi Liam, quick pickup mate, actually all 8x17s that we got had the motorsport on them as well.
Definately look nicer than 17s. I think your 2 dr would look great with em too!
Christmas cheers, Andrew :)

looks great. I've got 18's and eibach's and the ride certainly is much harsher. Makes you notice how bad most of our roads are thats for sure.

gtimk5
19-12-2006, 03:08 PM
Thanks ITG. It certainly does point out how crook our roads are. Mind you I wrecked 2 sidewalls in 17,000 kms with the 17s due to potholes. :(
Before I did the wheel swap I had to fit new tyres to the 17s and I fitted Yokohama C drives and they felt smoother than the Continentals.
Maybe the Eibachs accentuate it more cause the ride in mine is only really worse on the definate rough roads.
Christmas cheers, Andrew :)

I've Pirelli Dragons on mine. i'd gone through the soft conti's in 18k, but that was a fair few hard drives against WRX's plus with 190+ kw hard putting the power down off the line without leaving some rubber behind. Traction control does little to stop it either. Car certainly handles nicer since the changes and easier to position without guessing but hops off line when bumps come up mid corner which the standard suspension soaked up pretty well.

Have to agree on the traction thing! What about in the wet? 5th gear loss at times under hard acceleration. Yuor GTI looks good in the avatar. By the way, do your tyres rub occasionly on the front inner guard trims? My 17s did around Brackies "targa" roads, largish bumps in corners. Driving very hard too!
19s might be ok for show ponies only or city slickers!!!
Christmas Cheers, Andrew :)

Thanks, will have to wash it and take some proper picks before water restrictions mean i can't. hahaha wet weather traction. WHATS THAT? Depends on how much throttle i use, anything more than quarter in first 3 gears lights up a treat. And breaking into wheelspin while passing cars at 90 is always a neat trick in 4th. Can't say i've tried in 5th.:D
And yeah with 17's did bottom out a few times, hasn't happened since the changes.

We have a major advantage to you in the winter. Cold weather and if you thought the GTI was quick, you need to try an early morning here in the winter!!! Minigolf will find out next winter in Canberra. Heaps more grunt again!!!! And good heaters!!!:D

itgwv
21-12-2006, 03:21 PM
Have had some fairly cold days here around 4 or 5 and can certainly feel the extra boost. Heater never go over 20 as gets too hot. lol

i had -4.5 a few mornings on part of my journey a few times last winter! power was awesome!

brackie
21-12-2006, 04:29 PM
Yeah.. The diesel goes much quicker in winter. We get -5 quite regularly and you can feel the car has more power. I guess Canberra users have the same experience :???:
