Hey all - seeing that there seems to be such a bevy of Mk3 Golf knowledge around this amazing forum - just wondering if anyone could explain what is involved with an injector service?

Could an enthusiastic amateur with some mechanical understanding tackle such a project without rendering his only means of transport immobile?

Nice one..

They power the injectors up and run a cleaning fluid thorugh them under pressure. Also using an ultrasonic bath to vibrate all the crap out/off them. If you know a friendly jeweller or dentist they might lend you the bath.

The other bit is a bit hard and not worth the effort IMO.

My wife used to be a dental nurse in the RAF and I used the UB at the weekends. Very handy for cleaning small parts.

I'd investigate the cost of new injectors from the states too if you are really after doing something with them.

www.summitracing.com sell them cheap if they fit in V8s. I bought loads of red tops for G60s off them. They are made by Bosch for Ford racing. They were about £110 for 8 IIRC
you could sell the 4 you don't need and get yours for free. Different story as you need 6 but still could be worth a look.

Aldi were selling ultrasonic baths for $39.99. The last time I looked, Liverpool had quite a few left over.. You might only be able to do 1 or 2 injectors at a time though. It's 150mm long, 90mm wide and 50mm deep. It has a tray to put parts in and also an arch they they recommend using for watches..

Hey guys, happy new year.

Mm - I should find out whether the local aldi has any of those ultrasonic baths left..

How big a job is it to remove the injectors? I have a workshop manual to help me out but haven't done it before.. Does it require any specialist tools??
