Hey...so …
Just wanting to know what type of fuel consumption you people are getting?
Also at how many ks does the fuel light come on?

For both standard or Modded GTI’s

Mine just does not seen right... My light is turning on at about 350-380ks.Then I’m lucky if I get another 20ks out of it, before I go fill up.
Then when I do it will take between 36 and 38 liters.

I thought these little suckers would get at least 400-450 per tank?

Ps..Yes I do give it some stick, but not enough to justify the readings I'm getting.
I crus it and it's 9+L/H to 10+L/H

Isnt the Tank 45l. if your only filling it up 38 you technically have another 5 more litres which is another 50km (i personally fill mine up at the quarter mark). How olds the car cuse it will get better economy as itgets some kilometres on it. im only getting 380 +- in mine but i give it a fair bit.

Sorry guys, but to accurately compare fuel consumption, you need to measure L/100k. While "getting 380k out of the last tank" seems meaningful, it is amazing how even very slight variations in how empty the tank was, how full you filled it, the temperature (and season), and the driving conditions associated with that tank can affect range.

FWIW, my long term average over 9,500k is 7.9L/100k

Hoyhoy.
Well I reckon Bang for Buck is well priced. Same as the fuel, on the trip I get 7.3lit/100km [around 13.5km/lit]. Around town which has a bit of freeway
9.0lit/100km [ " 11.0km/lit]. This is with an APR flash.
P.S. This car is sub 15sec's in the quarter mile, I defy any other machine to equal this.

I average 440km-450km almost every tank and thats about 7L/100km, and thats giving it stick but driving on 80-90% on the highway. I sit around 110-120km/h on the highway. My Petrol light comes on with bout 40km left to go.

You say your getting 9L/100km? Well your either giving it more stick then me (and my family would say thats impossible :) ) or there is something wrong.

Average running to work in moderate traffic is around 10l/100.Very light traffic is 8.5-9l/100.Open road cruising is 7.5l/100.Any highway use will drop the consumption dramatically.Timbo is right-"per tankfull" figures are meaningless. There's no way the light comes on at the same level every time.

This sounds pretty much like my tank, finding on 95 octane I get about 480 k's and on 98 I get about 450 but my light comes on with about 50 odd k's left in the tank regardless.

Yeah well when 98 is upwards of $1.40 a litre in some weeks 95 will just have to do! But if there is some serious driving to do (other than just pottering around the city) then 98 goes in :)

The 98 use to go in all my motors, but mowers were overheating, so now it's only the cars.

Just on a little side note.

I got 56L into mine the other day.

In where you put the fuel pump, there is this little black vent on the side, if you push it and let the gas come out, you can get lots more fuel in. Anyone know why it does this ? :?

For months my car was only getting 350ish to a full tank even though my long term l/100km was 7.6 (0.3 below what VW say). I then got the 105k service done (timing belt, water pump + everything else) and I just got 600km to a tank! I didn't think a service would make this much difference, but it really has. I remember before it would get to half a tank then the needle would just drop and the fuel light would be on straight away, but now it's fine...weird!

I got 53.05L into mine the other week using the filler neck trick. It was north of $80 to do so, but still worth it! I got over 170KMs before the needle fell off the full mark. I always use Caltex Vortex 98, but for convenience's sake and Woolies fuel points rather than anything else.

Also vent cheated to get 55 litres of diesel into the tank but its not bad for a tankful with no country mileage.
Now that I've fitted the skinny tyres, I should get a noticable increase on this.

I used to get between 7.2L and 7.5L per 100km in each 99hr cycle of the trip computer in my Polo GTI.
I didn't drive like a granny at all, but didn't burn around town all the time either.
I barely drove in stop/start traffic though.
That was with 98RON always as well.
I would get over 500km on a tank everytime too.

Driving style has a lot to do with it. In a previous car I was consistently in the 10's and didn't nurse it, a mate bought the car who drove it softer than I did yet was in the 12's.

Re the polo, I'm unually in the high 7's to mid 8 litres per 100 (pre-tune). Not sure what it is now, haven't driven enough since the tune and I'm driving it quite a bit harder (novelty).

on the computer i got to 4.9L/100km with my stage II GTI.

and on a trip to germany (holliday)
i got 570Km out of 1 tank with just easy driving with the traffic.

i once reached 300Km with 1 tank last month when i pushed it pretty hard:P

so, drive easy and fuel consumption is verry verry low.
push it and it burn the fuell like it's having a hole in the tank

use of the air con has a MASSIVE effect on fuel consumption as well.

In summer my daily commute consumption jumps up by 1.5-2L/100km just from using the a/c (average between 7.8-8.2 in winter, 9.5-10L/100km in summer)

my car is chipped, intake, air filter (and some other stuff) but i think this combined with my love of winding it out listen to aftermarket exhaust leads to ****ty consumption (10.5 on average)

i have just filled up and am busting my ass to short shift and utilise 5th as often as possible when appropriate...will see what i can get out of it...its going to be tough modifying my driving style!

I've been running the aCar App for Androids and I've been averaging 8.2 L/100km since last December when I began tracking it.

Best so far has been a 6.25 L/100km tank and worst has been a 11.35L/100km tank.

Considering the mods and the fact that I tend to give it a bit of a boot full it isn't too bad :)

Going down from 195 section to 175 tyres has given me about a 7.5% improvement over my previous mileage. I think I could have got 1100km from 55 litres (did over 600km on 31 litres in suburban driving - with country driving, it would certainly be better) this time but I didn't want to turn up to this weekend's track day with a full tank (of diesel).

Thread revival.

9.46 l/100km on second to last tank and 8.72 l/100km on the last tank driving in mild peak hour traffic both ways, so pretty good considering it's also chipped. Taking it pretty easy with the odd punch. Both times are with BP Ultimate though I've since heard that better mileage beckons with Caltex Vortex so I'll fill up next time with that to compare. With freeway driving sans traffic that figure should drop to low 7s I reckon.

I average 9.0.

I live 5 kms from both the CBD (busy) and the Adelaide Hills... You do the maths there.

My highway average is about mid 6s on a cold night to mid 8s in summer with the a/c on.

Interestingly, I got metter mileage with the standard paper air filter in...????

This is all good to hear actually as mine is comparable. Highway with aircon is usually high 7's to mid 8's, city running around mid 9's to low 10's depending on the usual variables. I usually have roof racks on which would add to the drag.

In the 118tsi the best thus far has been around 5.8 l/100km.

Syd118TSI

Averager consumption for me is 9.16. Hit 10 trips to the bowser with the following as the consumptions along the way:

9.46 l/100 km
8.72 l/100 km
9.21 l/100 km
9.12 l/100 km
8.87 l/100 km
8.97 l/100 km
9.86 l/100 km
9.19 l/100 km
9.30 l/100 km
9.01 l/100 km

Pretty much consistently 16km each ways Mon-Friday trips. Sitting in traffic affects the consumption quite harshly (more than I would have expected). Average putting in around 39 litres each time and get approximately 430 km on a 'tank'. Longer drives sans traffic it easily gets into low 7s and even down to mid 6s.

Roughly halfway along there the wheels were changed to 17" Siata's with 205/45/17. Seems to have marginally increased the fuel consumption. The average with the standard GTI rims was 9.06 with the Siata rims it has been 9.34.

The lowest I have ever seen mine was 6.2/100 in the convoy to Nats last year due to the P platters on the In the convoy on the Hume... 100 - 105km/h. I usually get around 7.5 -7.8 on the highway and 11 - 13 around town.

I think once you fit a higher pressure fpr the figures shown in the dash are incorrect. Mine had a 4 bar fpr and it would show silly figures like 4. something to 1/100km. If you check how far it goes on a tank full it may not agree with the dash.
