I've searched the forum and couldn't find any info on how to change the interior lights. maybe noone has done it yet? well anyway i tried pushing them to the side and twisting a screwdriver underneath them - all i got was a crack in the plastic :duh:

anyone got any ideas of how to get them out of there?

btw i'm talking about the festoons located behind the sunvisor and above rear doors illustrated below:

you push it to one side and with a thin flat blade screw driver you push it in and it will come down.

hope it helps try either way if it does not come out easy.

yeah tried that and it led to a cracked casing. big thanks anyway (at least now i know i'm heading in the right direction ) will try with a thinner screwdriver tomorrow.

was also trying to work this out the other day.
you upgrading ur bulbs? LEDs? if so what colour etc, was thinking of going to town and doing all pure white led globes inside and out on my car, hate that yellow colour from the stock globes

yeah finally got them out today, lost one of the metal mounting pieces/contacts which hold the light in place :duh: i'm upgraading to LEDs, will try red ones first, if not then will go with blue. will post pics when i'm done.

anyone know where i can get a spare contact?

Have no idea to find one of the contacts.

Did you end up finding one? have you got the new lights in yet?

unfortunately no and no. driving like a hobo with just wires sticking out of the headlining. auto1 is taking time with the red leds, they wanted to push blue ones but they were the wong size. and now i need to go to a wrecker, to get the whole housing :(

on a brighter note, got all the stuff i need to tint :D

btw, haven't seen any pics of your car yet! post some in the photo section ;)

that sucks, atleast you can get them, think iv gone to every place in town to suss out who can order them for me, they jsut look at me stupid, havnt even heard of them before haha i dont know why i even try anymore...

you going to do your own tinting on your car? if you are, definatly go darker then the 'legal' on your back windows. i have midnight express (darkest legal tint apparntly) but something to do with the angle of the back window, it still lets so much light in, looks sweet at night, but during the day its like you barely have tinting. Thinking of going back and getting the rear door windows and rear window done darker which is apparntly legal?

Iv been going to make a picture thread for a while, but been putting it off (been lazy) but im making 1 now, ill shoot you a link when im done.

The lights behind the visors are easy to pop out. As said you just need a really thin flat blade screw driver and get the correct side of the light to push in and pop it out.

The rear lights over the door are much harder to get out as you've discovered. Same way to get them out though. If you don't get the right side to push in and pop out then you will never get them out. However I when I finally got mine out I found that they're some kind of weird round bulb that I still haven't seen an LED that will fit around the place.

I would've thought they'd be the 39mm fuse style bulbs like the map lights but for some reason mine aren't. I think due to the fact that the security motion sensors are in mine they use a different bulb.

Cheers,
Trent

Treza, i think you got the 10mm wedge type bulbs in there, i got them in the map lights too - there's a 42mm festoon in the middle and two 10mm wedges on the sides, so i'll have to find them too. when i'll get them, i'll put up a link.

Dylan, i'll do the taillights myself, but i won't touch the windows. i do need to retint the windows - my tint is pathetic (50%?), but i'll do it once i invest in double din headunit. I'll take the pics of the led's i got, so you get the idea how they look.

oh and btw, i think my numberplate lights are gonna go out soon as they are 12v and according to vwvortex you need 14.4v ones in there. but i'll see how these go.

Nah they're not even the wedge type bulbs like the map bulbs. They're little globe type ones that seem like they soldered in almost. I didn't even bother fully investigating once I worked out that I had a look at the bulb and realised that autobarn didn't sell and LED for them.
By the way I picked up all my LEDs from autobarn. The ones I replaced were, number plate, door lights, map lights, light between map lights, visor lights, boot light and glove box light.
The only ones I couldn't get were the BA9XS type bulbs in the parking lights and the rear passenger lights. These are an offset bayonet type light which I got from 42 draft designs over in the US (or maybe Canada).

Trent

Ahh taillights, i missed that bit sorry! is that legal...? thought i looked into it once before, but i might be wrong. Silver dub has smoked tail lights on his silver bora and they look sick! so hopefully you can

after three and a half hours and loosing my 8mm socket somewhere in the chassy (i'm so clumsy!), i've finally tinted the tails. too late to take pics now, i'll do it tomorrow. i would assume its legal if its not very dark - mine came out somewhere between 35%. i know mischa had them tinted for half a year or so and no trouble.

btw dylan here are some photos of the leds:

Sorry for the blurriness. Gotta love hand held photos in the dark. Also excuse the lack of bumper. Removed for respray. My lights aren't anything too fancy colour wise. Was just going for a simple colour scheme to match the cluster and stereo etc.

Yeah it's the normal red/white type cover. With the blue LEDs it's a bit of a purple colour but yeah looks awesome still.

Trent

I know some people think it's ricey but i had blue neons in my footwells of my old golf so that they would match all the cluster etc. I actually liked them, wsn't hard to do either, had them running of a seperate switch under the dash

thanks for the pics trent. i wanted to go for the red colour scheme, but after seeing your interior, i'll go for blue as well. however i'll use some red leds for the courtesy lights.

anyway, here are some pics of my tinted taillights (they look a little bit darker than they really are, need one extra coat). i went with three coats of tinting spray, didn't bother with clear coat, however might consider it later:

wow they actually look much lighter than that, but as my mate says, they look euro. finally got my red leds (but instead of being 6 leds, they only have 3), and guess what, they are PATHETIC!!! give about 5cm range of light like in a submarine. got to invest in some ebay ones, so updates later.
