Can only dream that it will be priced under the GTI like in the UK :goodluck:

You may be glad (or disappointed) to know that the Scirocco is already on sale in NZ. The price is NZD 49,990 for the 118kw version with 7sp DSG or NZD 55,990 for the 147kw version with 6sp DSG. That translates to about $40,000 and $44,800 respectively.

What the hell?! NZ had all the Jap imports in a flash too. Must be little red tape over there

how does it relate to the outgoing GTI pricing? more expensive or cheaper?

Slightly more expensive, comparing the 147kw version.

The GTI (DSG) is NZD 53,990 ~ AUD 43,200
The R32 (DSG) is NZD 71,990 ~ AUD 57,500

NZ has no 'home-grown' car industry to protect ... so they bring in as many models as they think they can sell. For example ... still can't get the V6 EOS or Cross-Polo in Aus? Nip across the ditch. There are many more examples.

They also got V6 4motion Mk4 Golfs, among a whole bunch of stuff from other manufacturers.

I was back in NZ a couple of weeks ago and was lucky enough to be one of the first in the country to drive one. Had a go in the 2.0T, was great fun. Not only feels better on the road than a GTi, but feels infinitely more special too. Talked my Mum into getting one too, so a grey one on 18s is currently on order. Will be sure to post pics next time i am home. Oz definitely should get this car.

im hangin out to see a scirocco in the flesh.

Im trying to like it. I really am! Even thinking of ditching the GTI for one if they come here. It just looks so awkward from some angles. But then all the reviews say its pretty!? so confused

I'm struggling to like it too, it looks hideous from some angles, i love to front of it, but thats too much like a Mk6 Golf now for it to stand out. That aside it is said to be a great drivers car so at least they got that right!

NZ gets a better deal than here, they got a dozen or so Corrados new too.

I'll believe it when I see them in the showroom ;)

yeah, front end is sooo good looking, rear end they ran out of styling budget,

there is so much more they could have done to create some great curves on the rear flanks to make it truly inspirational as per the original Mk 1's back in 74 when they were first shown...sigh....

The VW dude contradicts himself in that article.

If no is no, then why would they still be looking at it?

Test drove one in Scotland 2 months ago and everything they said in the reviews was true. You know when you get behind the wheel of a MkI or II you just feel at home its such a comfortable driving position. The Mk III is no different, lovely car to drive and by crickey does it handle well.

There are already several for sale on trademe.

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/SearchResults.aspx?searchType=0001-&searchString=scirocco&searchregion=100&type=Search

would probably only cost a couple of grand to ship one across the ditch. I suppose you would need to car import approval from the department of transport.

My mum has had hers for a couple of weeks now, absolutely loves it. Ended up getting a white 2.0T, can't wait to go back to NZ and spend some time in it.

I saw a very tidy Black 2.0 TSI Scirocco when I was in Auckland a few weeks back. Had tinted windows and (Illegal) silver on black number plates. Was absolutely show-stopping.

Probably the nearest thing to it is the Volvo C30 T5 with 165kW...selling for well below RRP at the moment.

Still a fantastic package the T5. Great seats too!

WOuld love it of they bring in the R-line scirocco. Would definately buy it over Golf Gti, Passat CC, Audi S3 or Audi TT. Unfortunately its not on the cards at this point. So damn depressing. I fell in love with the car in the picture the moment I saw it on carsguide http://carsguide.news.com.au/site/news-and-reviews/story/vw_scirocco_blows_out_of_reach/

I read in Fridays CarsGuide that VW have deceided NOT to bring the Scirocco to Australia at this point.
