sorry guys but I went to joe for my last service, and decided to go to someone else this time- joe replaced my filter with an aftermarket one, my new mechanic is unable to put in an original filter cos joe has thrown away an important part.

I wouldn't go to him again- maybe he's great for other things but for a normal oil service and filter change.... really screwed this one up for me. now I have to order a brand new part that is PART OF MY CAR and I have to come back for servicing again for when that part comes in. given all the rave reviews, I was not expecting this from him.

You did ask him (didn't you)?

no i didn't fj steve. i can't see what he can do. i'm happy to not deal with him again; i've found a better mechanic and i'm sticking to him.

I think in fairness you should have given him the right of reply prior to posting. I started using Golfwagen last year after 10yrs of dealer service and saw for myself what the stealers had not been doing. My preference is to use someone thoroughly familiar with these vehicles.

no i didn't fj steve. i can't see what he can do. i'm happy to not deal with him again; i've found a better mechanic and i'm sticking to him.I can't see how that can be fair. How about I slander you and your attitude on another forum (for example) and insinuate that no-one should be happy dealing with you should they ever meet you.

Would you be happy for me to tell everyone that you screwed me around, and all the time not allowing you a right of reply?

No, didn't think so.

i understand what you are saying but how am i supposed to call him after one year and say- dude you put in an after market filter, i want my money back or replace the part. that's just... a bit naive isn't it?

i'm sorry if it's slander, i'll remove all my comments if that's the case. i wanted to share my noob experience and i feel that for anyone else who is as clueless as me, as least they would know that Joe does use aftermarket stuff- which i never knew people did and it's just surprising that i would be paying so much for something that isn't OEM.
again, it can be my stupidity/naivety and i am happy to admit that. from my very limited experience all my mechanics have told me whenever they don't use OEM and i just expected the same courtesy (esp with all the rave reviews) and am surprised that it was not the case.

He would have the service record on his computer and would know what has been used. All good third party mechanics will wherever they can either source OEM from a cheaper distributor or use high quality after market. With reference to the 'fluids' such as cooling system, Haldex diff etc, he always uses the VAG item. I think in this case it would have been a courtesy to chat to him and get his side. There are folk who will after the work is done, always argue the job was never quite good enough - perhaps they fall into the 'glass half empty' category.

Dude, seriously??!!!
Just call the guy and talk to him. He DOES use OEM parts. I know this because I'm the guy he buys them from!!!

Its clear that you dont know what you're talking about and at the end of the day, it's a bloody oil change on a mk5 TDI. I could do it with my eyes closed. There is no "part of the car" to "remove" there. You take out the cartridge, put in the new one, put in the Longlife III oil (which he uses Genuine!) and screw the housing back up. Its not possible for someone like Joe or Phillip to stuff that up!

Who told you there was "something missing"?

Do you even know what the missing part is??

Get your story straight before posting this stuff up on a forum, and try and sort it out with the parties involved first please.

I just saw your other post in the other thread.

OEM means Original Equipment Manufacturer. This means that the parts that VW sell (ie filters) aren't actually made by VW, they are made by Mahle/Hengst/Knecht/Fram/Mann etc. That is exactly the brands that i sell to Joe at my work.

It's the same for most components on most cars. V.A.G dont make the braking systems, Ate do (under VW/Audi specs). Go to the dealers and pay twice the price for Ate brake discs in a VW box, or just buy the Ate packaged ones from where i work, which is what Golfwagen/Elite Euro do.

It sounds like your new mechanic has broken something and blamed the previous workshop (Joe) for "throwing it away". That is just a load of BS me thinks because there is nothing in or around the oil filter housing that can be removed!!

There is also only 4 different kinds of oil filter available for the mk5 depending on engine code (which by the way, is how Joe orders parts). It is literally impossible to fit the wrong oil filter in these cars!

Also, Fabcar never call and order/enquire for parts at my work. We are one of the leading two German parts wholesalers in Perth, supply parts to over 300 workshops in the metro area (INCLUDING VW, MERC, AND SAAB DEALERSHIPS!!!) and he hasn't heard of us? That makes me think HE doesnt know what he's doing...

Careful dude, i think you should think about who is really taking you for a ride.

You are spot on in your response.

I went to them after years of dealer service - it was interesting Philip pointed out to me that the original Haldex filter had not been changed despite three dealer services charging me for it.

I have to say I am very pleased with their work.

Just brought my sisters mk4 over from Melbourne, and am trying to sort out a place for her to get it serviced.

Adding my feedback :)

Had our Jetta serviced and cam belt replaced with the guys and I dealt with Philip who was exceptionally helpful and even fixed some trim items that had come loose after a panel beater couldn't put it back together properly! So I highly recommend them and will be taking my R there for servicing too. Great work guys!

Had the Polo GTI serviced at Elite Euro today. Met Joe in the morning, took the "Bora" loan car for the day. Happened to be in the area in the early afternoon and Phillip rang to let me know I could pick up the car early. Excellent service! Labour rate seems very reasonable too. I'll be going back

Sisters mk4 had a tranny service etc.
one thing that completely amazed me.... They changed the time on the clock!! (It was still in vic time) Never had that done in a service before.
Again top job!
