um i dont see what so crazy about putin down some straight line speeds , come on fellas the car only way 800kg push that with 130hp and ur flying , even 100whp will get u goin quick , any one with a 16v conv should be close to 130whp should give u 14's , and still be good around the corners , but now ull be leading into them instead of following

convinced me golfwise... whilst i was running a stock kr motor with the usual mods i was neck and neck with a wrx so i think they put down a time off something like,,,, mid 14s? to mid 15s or about there, so thats where im at.... so thats my time about mid 14/15....hahaha

15-09-2005, 08:49 PM
yeah man must stock wrx around low 14's , thats not bad , u'll surprise lots of dumb commodore's and falcons lol  , i used to surprise heaps of ppl in my vr6 because most dont no about them 8)

I am actually keen to do a timed 1/4 mile run, a friend wants me to run at our local drag races in October. However I do want to do some prep work for that run.

Yeah I have outrun a wrx from 100KMh+ going uphill, i don't think he was very happy. I know I was grinning from ear to ear :D :D 8)

Performance VW mag has times for most modified VAG in their mag every month.
It will give you an idea what and how much will be needed to get quick times'
If I remember correctly a non 4wd car that was pretty well the fastest front drive was a Seat with a 1.8 t of course.

I will have a go soon in My mkIV 1.8T golf and repost, just have to find a nice no cop road thats all, Takin off from the lights is always great and I get to hundred in about 7-8 seconds should change once I spend some bread on an APR chip and exhaust system.

Went to a dyno day with a retarded cam gear. Damn the car was so rev happy then. I ended up advancing the cam back to 0 as the fuel bill was shocking driving everywhere at 5K rpm LOL

I remember blowing off all the idiots in my area in my stock 1600 Mk1. Well all the other 4's anyway that thing went suprisingly well.
Im sure you all know the type, mums old Excel or pulsar with rims and a cannon and no other mods but they think its the best car out.

I was going to take it to the Nationals on the drag day but had some troubles with it.

Im taking my new Mk1 next year I'm very keen to see how it goes, could upset a few people i think. Ive already blown off my mates commodore, absolutly flogged him. :D

My mk2 16v isn't too slow for an old banger. Some scalps I have include VL turbo, ET Pulsar turbo, Ford TX3, brand new Honda Integra Type S.
Tried to drag a VY SS commodore and had him in 1st(he bogged it down) but he was a whole length in front buy about 90km/hr.
Also ate an XR6 turbo ute in 1st but he flew past me in 2nd.

Tried measuring a 0-100 time on a stop watch with a mate in the car timing and the best I got was 7.5 seconds but that was with 17's on it and also I think most cars have inaccuracy built into their speedos.

15.2 @ 95 MPH VR6
13.7 @ 99 MPH Audi S3 (Gene Berg trophy winner 2005)

Audi will be running again May 21st at WSID . Hoping for mid to low 12's

Golf wont be finished till next year . Waiting for ANDRA to sort out Sport compact classes

I'll be at Eastern Creek May 21st . Id love to see some of you guys out there at WSID . I dont go every week either . The VR6 was raced in 2001 and 2002 , the s3 in 2005 and early this year . MK1's can do the maddest burnouts even if they are slow . That Mk1 that was out there last year was pretty quick . Thumbs up to taking the car out there . You dont need big $ to get a mk1 to run a 14 . I have 2 turbo's laying around that are oil cooled and a 1.8 stroker engine for a mk1 and I dont even own a mk1 anymore . Ive gone for outright power in a strong body , hence the VR6 . The power I will be making will twist a mk1 on its first pass . I still need to spend $ reinforcing the mk3 after acid dipping it . But first ANDRA needs to sort out the sport compact class

Standing quarters or whatever they are called seem to be a lot of money and effort for such a short time and the more effort and money spent the shorter the time and you don't have to make a car go around corners.

I much prefer the challenge of a race circuit but I do respect the drag guys all the same. Its all in the engineering challenge of improving what the manufacturer started out with.

hey bug racer or any other knowledgable folks..

im in the process of building a 1.9 8v for a hillclimbing mk1 which im hoping will benchtest around 200hp+ .. so i was wondering what you think would let go first on the mk1 chassis/engine mounts etc?
also if you knew what mods/bracing would be needed to stop this?

cheers

Definately engine mounts . If you put a cage in that will help with chassis flex . Your best getting some solid engine mounts , and possibly bracing

 I've just put in a cross brace from control arm to arm very easy to make i'll post size's shortly when i lift the car in the next day or so i'll even try and take a pic.
i have felt the the diff in front end rigidity turn in into corners feels a little better though knowing it's helping with keeping the front end together as in not wanting to do the splits if you know what i mean  is assuring .

cheers Dave

solid as in solid? or solid as in tough? :?

i can easily fit strut brace and front lower stress bar and illl probably reinforce the strut towers... any other major issues?

Whats going to flex the chassis ?
Surely not 200 hp which is a bit high for a 1.9.

I knew a guy with a beetle once that had 150hp . After 3 years of racing the doors wouldnt close properly . I havent seen a mk1 with more than 150 without a roll cage yet so I guess I cant really comment there . Change engine mounts from rubber to polyurethane . A bit harsher but less chance of them shearing under torque load

mollins

200 hp which is a bit high for a 1.9.

200hp is me being conservative... the guy who sold me the engine said it would bench test at 300! so im not getting my hopes up in case it disappoints!

its a 1.6 bored and stroked to a 1.9, flat top pistons, balanced crank etc
the head is audi i think as it has massive valves and high lift cam
the head is polished and portmatched to fit the lynx manifolds, for which i have 2 twin 45 dellortos, plus matched extractors and a 2.5 inch exaust with side exit

i'm still cleaning it up and saving up for some bits i need
but ill let you guys know when its together and in something!... hopefully a nice stiff roll caged mk1 :D

Bug_racer
06-05-2006, 10:05 AM
300 hp out of a 1.9 , Its gonna have to rev to 9000rpm and 45's arent enough to feed that kind of fuel to it . You'll be lucky to crack 200hp

Sorry to open an old thread, but i beat a mate of mine, who's 3.5L V6 magna has run as fast as a 14.91sec on the quarter, i dont know how much power my VR6 is making, but with the free flowing exhausts and intake mods, i'd like to think im nudging 200hp at the flywheel. Im looking for some more mods to break 200hp, then i plan to supercharge the 2.8, looking for 300hp@ the wheels.

With my new engine having done about 50,000 ks, I timed about 8-9 secs to 100kmph. Thats with the old man in the passanger side with a stopwatch. Not very accurate but fun never the less. That was when I had the diesel box in.
Not sure what the times would be with the gti box now but I would say it wouldnt be to far of.

It certainly does surprise alot of the bogans kicking around in their clapt out cordia turbos, excels, pulsars etc.

Always fun :)

!!!! Go the MK1's !!!!

did the drags about 2 years ago in a mk1 golf and did a 14.9 and this was untunned, had roof racks on and a huge tool box full of tools in the boot. it was kind of funny because they was a guy there with a 2ltr pulsar n/a trying to get times for the fastest fwd n/a, and we kept beating him buy a second, he had all the seats out and everything, not happy that he was losing to vw power!!!!!!:D
we blew the engine then rebuilt the engine dropped it into my mk1 and took it to the drags wed 18, but could only do a 16.4 but have have changed some stuff to the car. we are going to change them back get it tunned and hopefully get high 13 - to low 14, i might come back out to willow back to run if i have it al done but then:)

dont think your going to nudge 200hp at the fly with just zorst and intake? I have exactly that but havnt seen that much improvement?

Anyways, ran the VR6 down tonight, two runs as follows:

................First Run......Second Run
Reaction.....1.129...........1.022
60ft...........2.298...........2.300
E.T............14.950.........14.821
Mph...........93.57...........94.08

I reckon I could get it down a fraction more, just needed one or two more runs!

I'm thinking that dropping the clutch at round 3500-3700rpm would be just right.

Just a better launch I guess, im thinking i can get it down a smigin more with a bit more juice of the line as it takes a couple of runs to get used to that sticky-icky track!

Ive just got iridium plugs (prob due for a change), nology leads, 2.25" press bent cat-back zorst and a K&N pod . . . . Was happy as though as I beat my mate driving his dc5 tegra typeR both times!

I have higher top speeds, and we have simular 60ft times. i couldn't get anygrip off the line, the track was slippery as. I need to take anouther trip to the strip i think
